It has been well over two years since last visiting Manchester Airport, the airport significantly hampered by COVID-19 hence the lack of visits towards the end of 2020 and throughout 2021. Thankfully, 2022 should see some form of normality returning back, albeit not pre-pandemic as some airlines have indicated they may not return in the future.
For Jet2, the carrier has weathered the storm; after initially suspending operations during the second quarter of 2020 and first half of 2021; the carrier has returned back to normal commercial operations and changes are expected in the next couple of years.
In the latter half of 2021, Jet2 announced an order for 36 Airbus A321neos plus 24 options, a major win for Airbus considering Jet2 is predominantly a Boeing operator. Previously, Jet2 has only wet-leased Airbus A320s and Airbus A321s during the peak summer season. The order is expected to replace the Boeing 757-200s with all examples in the fleet now exceeding 25 years of service (2022 marked the 40th anniversary since the Boeing 757 took its first flight!)
At the end of 2020, Jet2 took on 3 Airbus A321s; these being acquired on lease after a protracted period in storage following the collapse of the Thomas Cook Group. So far, all of the 3 Airbus A321s are currently based from Manchester.
Currently, Jet2 operates 3 Airbus A320 family aircraft, all of which are Airbus A321ceos. Jet2 have 36 Airbus A321neos on-order.
Hotel Lima Yankee Foxtrot is one of 3 Airbus A321s in service with Jet2, delivered new to Air Berlin as D-ABCQ on lease from Avolon on 29th June 2015, transferring over to their Swiss-subsidiary as HB-JOX on 3rd May 2017. The airframe was returned to Avolon on 2nd November 2017 following Air Berlin's collapse, later leased to Condor as D-ATCD on 29th May 2018 until returning back to Avolon on 22nd September 2019 following Thomas Cook's collapse, then being acquired by Jet2 on lease from 3rd February 2020. She is powered by 2 CFM International CFM56-5B3/3 engines.
