Old mosaic for J. Storr Jet Manufacturer at Whitby, North Yorkshire. Had to wait 5 minutes to get an unimpeded shot - it's a very popular jewellery shop window!
Whitby is famous for its high quality black jet (fossilized monkey puzzle tree, about 150 million years old) found in the cliffs in the area, mainly used to make jewellery. Jet crafting goes back centuries and was a major industry here by Victorian times, with workshops all over the town.
