Today, Sunday 7 April 2013, is the Feast Day of Divine Mercy, which always falls on the first Sunday after Easter.

In one of His many miraculous visitations with the Polish nun Sister Faustina (1905-1938) - now Saint Faustina - Jesus asked her to tell the world that "....the very depths of my Mercy will be opened on that day. I will pour out a sea of graces upon those souls that will approach the fount of My Mercy on this day....let no soul fear to come to Me, even if its sins be scarlet..."

In February 1931, Jesus had appeared to Faustina and asked her to have an image painted as He appeared before her - with his hand held up in blessing; the other hand hand on his breast, from which flowed two rays: the pale symbolising the water, which cleanses and purifies the soul. The red representing the blood which gives new life to the soul. Jesus said " These rays will shield the soul before the justice of my Father..."

He asked that the painting be inscribed with the words, Jezu Ufam Tobie (Polish) - meaning Jesus I Trust in You.

" Since February 2002 I have felt compelled to paint and draw my own interpretation of this Divine Mercy image, according to the instructions given by Jesus - each time hoping to reveal this message ever more powerfully - often on Divine Mercy Sunday. Yesterday , in prayer, I felt a 'divine push' to create in order to show today - keeping all those most suffering in my heart and with hope for world peace." ~ Stephen B Whatley

Love Christ and your life will change: Jesus I Trust in You.

Peace & Healings on this day.

In September 2005, the painting was moved to the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, Vilnius.

This of course is not mine, but in album on my site that I will make, I will put very special pictures I find that are moving. I will give credit where it is due and ask you to respect their copyright as well. I got this from the Divine Mercy site. Sister Faustina, had Jesus appear to her, and told her he wanted this image made. She, had a real hard time trying to get the image made after many attempts as she felt nothing could really compare to the True Beauty of Jesus but the artist she had whom was able to complete a "close" resemblence to what she saw, was successful in creating something close. It is a beautiful picture of our Precious Lord with Special Rays extending from his heart to show his Love and Mercy etc.. If you wish to read more of it and what they mean, go to the Divine Mercy site. God wants us to know he is Always Loving and Merciful- Nothing is greater than his Love & Mercy and that it extends unconditionally to us! All we have to do is come to him! I love the prayer, "Jesus, I Believe, Love, Trust and Adore You, and I Pray for those who don't Believe, Love, Trust and Adore You! I say it everyday especially when I work as I love to talk to him and offer this simple prayer to help others as well as myself.

In 2008 Stephen B Whatley received the moving request for permission to reproduce his painting 'Jezu Ufam Tobie' (2002) throughout the CD cover of a new musical arrangement of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Shown here is the inside of the CD beside the lower corner of the original oil painting..featuring the inscription and the foot of Jesus (link below).

Written by Susan Hookong-Taylor; who along with her friend Ana Da Costa, perform through voices like angels. Accompanied by George Anstey (bass) and Mark Joseph (percussion/cymbal washes), this heavenly CD was recorded at Round Sound & Number 9 Studios, Toronto, Canada and produced by shuebedoo music; for deepwatersound.ca.

In December 2008, Susan wrote to Stephen "...Many people have said that the CD visually is a medidtation on the Divine Mercy & that your painting is a tremendous aid to prayer..."

'Jezu Ufam Tobie' is Polish for Jesus, 'I Trust in You' - and originates from the life and visions of Christ to the Polish nun, Sister Faustina, in the first half of the 20th Century - and now known as St Faustina.

From the Handbbook of Devotion to Divine Mercy:

"...On February 22, 1931, Sister Faustina records in her diary, " I saw Jesus dressed in a white garment. He held one hand raised in blessing and the other hands was touching the garment at the breast. From under the garment came two rays of light, one red, the other pale."

Jesus said " Paint a picture according to the vision you see and with the signature, Jesus I trust in You. I desire that this picture be verenerated first in your chapel and then throughout the whole world." Later Sister Faustina's Spiritual Director told her to ask Jesus what the rays signified and Jesus explained to her:

" The rays represent the Blood and Water which gushed forth from the depths of my Mercy when my agonising Heart was pierced on the cross. The pale rays symbolise the water, which cleanses and purifies the soul: the red rays represent the blood, which gives new life to the soul. Theses rays will shield the soul before the justice of My Father. Fortunate are those who live in this shelter, for the justice of God will not reach them there".

Jesus said to Sister Faustina, "..Even the most hardened sinner, if he recites the Chaplet of Divine Mercy even once will receive grace from My infinite Mercy....Oh, what graces I will grant souls who will recite this chaplet...."

"....I have recently endured the enormous stress and trauma of moving house; and through the course of being helped by a team of wonderfully kind young Polish men was deeply touched when they discovered my painting Jezu Ufam Tobie...' Is this yours!!??' - moved as they were at reading the Polish inscription...they all knew the history, shared a faith..." ~ Stephen B Whatley

JESUS I TRUST IN YOU!

The message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God’s mercy.

The message of mercy is that God loves us no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy.

It is a message we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC.

A — Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world.

B — Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us.

C — Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.

The message is nothing new, but is a reminder of what the Church has always taught through scripture and tradition: that God is merciful and forgiving and that we, too, must show mercy and forgiveness. But in the Divine Mercy devotion, the message takes on a powerful new focus, calling people to a deeper understanding that God’s love is unlimited and available to everyone — especially the greatest sinners.

A new tribute to The Resurrection of Christ by British artist Stephen B. Whatley; painted with prayers on Easter Day ,March 31, 2024.

Artist Stephen B. Whatley (1965-) suffered the tragic loss at 16 of his beloved, devoted mother Marjorie J. Whatley (1943-1981) and the devastating bereavement lead the artist on a search for spiritual depth both in his life and art. Whilst he was born an Anglican, he became attracted to the devotions within the Catholic Church – to which he converted in 2011.

He is happy that his work touches so many Christians, whether they be Catholics, Anglicans or Episcopalians.

Since 2000, he has been drawn to make statements of prayer and faith; often painting on specific anniversaries and Feast Days – with what he humbly calls a “divine push’, creating both works of hope and light.

The work of Stephen B. Whatley is in collections worldwide & public collections which own his work include the BBC, London Transport Museum, and The Royal Collection of HM King Charles III.

Catholic institutions that own the artist's paintings include The Carrollton School of The Sacred Heart, Miami, USA, The Institute of Marist Brothers, Canada, Newman University, Birmingham (UK), St Anthony Padua Catholic College, Sydney, Australia and Westminster Cathedral, London - which staged his 2013 exhibition, Paintings From Prayer.

In 2004, the artist was presented to Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh in recognition of his work.

The artist's series of 30 paintings, commissioned by the Tower of London in 2000, is a permanent exhibit outside Tower Hill Station, London ; reproduced throughout Tower Hill Pedestrian Underpass (outside Tower Hill Station) - the main portal entrance to the Tower of London.

Today, Sunday April 15, 2012, is the Feast Day of The Divine Mercy. After attending a beautiful Mass celebrating this special Sunday and Catholic devotion at the Roman Catholic Church of St Ignatius in North London, I felt what I call a 'divine push' to pay tribute to the Divine Mercy; with this drawing created today in prayer. I have felt compelled to paint several expressions of this devotion since 2002 ( all to be viewed in my "Christian Set"; with a detailed history beneath the images) - which originates from miraculous instructions in the 1930s from Christ to a Polish nun, Sister Faustina (1905-1938); canonised in 2000 by Pope John Paul II.

Peace to all Christians & agnostics alike.

The chained-together sections of the wall thing appear to lean over but that's one of the Devil's optical illusions. Do not worry the slabs are not gonna fall onto your toes, even if Satan were to cause a car to tap one of them accidentally.

But who is the first-person "I" here anyhow — is it the billboard itself?, the picture of Jesus?

The restored Divine Mercy Image

Today there are many variations of the Divine Mercy Image around the world, the most famous being the Hyla, Vilnius, and Skemp Images. The Vilnius Image, featured on this page, is the original and only Divine Mercy Image painted under Sister Faustina's direction. It was painted in 1934 by Vilnius artist Eugene Kazimirowski, who was retained by Fr. Michael Sopocko, Sister Faustina's spiritual director. This image is named after the town where the Image was painted and first hung for public display. Both the Hyla and the Skemp are named after the artists who painted them.

During World War II, which Sister Faustina predicted two years to the day before the Nazis invaded Poland, the original Image fell into disrepair, having been improperly stored in a damp attic. As the Image and message gained popularity during the war as a comfort to souls, reproductions were made from a black and white photograph taken prior, which was not-so-skillfully colorized. In this form it was spread around the world. Sadly, none of these Images ever reflected the true beauty and color of the original painting. However, in June 2003, under the auspices of the Archbishop of Vilnius, the original painting was restored by an expert, and a photograph was sent to the Marian Fathers along with permission to reproduce it as a thank-you for their generous support in the building of a new Church there. The photograph was then given to Mercy Films, Inc. to prepare it for reproduction. The result is this stunning Image of Jesus.

Vilnius Image and the Shroud of Turin

Because Sister Faustina was not an artist, her spiritual director, Father Michael Sopocko, took her to a local Vilnius artist named Eugene Kazimirowski, (left), who painted this Image directly under Faustina’s supervision. From the time Sister received the vision in 1931 to paint this Image, to the time it was finished, three and one-half painful years had elapsed. Painful because of the many conflicts Sister Faustina had to endure. Sadly remarking, “Lord, who will paint You as beautiful as you are” (Diary 313), Faustina had the artist change the face at least 10 times. Finally, Our Lord told Faustina that it was good enough - to leave it in the state it’s in. In the mid 1990's it was accidentally discovered that the face on this Image perfectly matched the one on the Holy Shroud of Turin.

This restored Vilnius Image is the only Image painted under St. Faustina’s direction.

A little-known promise regarding the Image

The restored Divine Mercy Image makes a beautiful addition to any room or chapel. But greater than it’s beauty are Our Lord’s words, “Not in the beauty of the color, nor of the brush lies the greatness of this image, but in My grace.” (Diary 313). Here is just one of many stories regarding the power and graces granted through this Image:

“In one of the first booklets that Sister Faustina’s confessor, Father Sopocko, published, he mentioned a promise made by Jesus regarding the veneration of the Image of Himself that He told Faustina to paint, that we cannot find either in the diary nor in her letters. Before St. Faustina was told by her spiritual director to keep a diary of her spiritual experiences, she used to record those, about which she thought she ought to inform him, on pieces of paper and give them to him. The Sister who was the vice-postulator for Poland knew that there was a collection of these which ultimately must have been given to the investigatory tribunal that was to inspect her writings, and it’s possible that this promise was mentioned among those papers."

"Anyway, Father Sopocko knew about it and I’m sure that if it wasn’t true, he would not have included it in that booklet. It was a promise that Jesus made: I will save those cities and houses in which this Image will be found. He also said: I will likewise protect the persons who will honor and trust in My Mercy."
