I remember reading an article a while back about Jem VS Barbie. Barbie tried to imitate Jem's fierceness with The Rockers but eventually the whole glam-pop-rock 80s trend passed and so did the show's appeal. Looking back, it's still a glamorous show. There's still nothing like it in terms of animated adventures.
Once in a while we get to install hardware on the slide table of the JEM airlock, so that it can be transferred outside. Typically we have installed minisatellites encapsulated in their deployment system. In this case, I’m installing the Robotic Refueling Mission, a technology demonstrator for automatic refueling of satellites in orbit. A lot of delicate components to be handled with outmost respect! By the way, on the far right you can see a screenshot of WorldMap, our Earth observation software. It shows us our flight path on the Earth surface, pass predictions and much more. The four green boxes on the other laptops show us the com status of our four space-to-ground channels in up and downlink. Green is good, gray is loss of signal. That com display can be pulled up on any of the PCS laptops, which are on the control bus of the Station and provide telemetry and commanding. Since the ground does the commanding remotely most of the time, we keep most of our PCSs just like this, with the com status display pulled up and maximized in size. They are strategically placed so that there is one in view wherever we are on Station, so that we can always easily check if we have com with the ground or not.

Amphitheatre of El Jem
The ruins of the largest colosseum in North Africa, a large amphitheatre which held up to 35,000 spectators, are found in the small village of El Jem. This 3rd-century monument illustrates the grandeur and extent of Imperial Rome.

I LOVED the outfits in the cartoon (especially Jem's white and gold polka-dot cowl-neck sweater dress and hot pink gloves). They were outrageous to say the least.
Jem: - Oh Barbie, I'm so confused...what am I doing at your house???
Barbie: -Let me guess...You met a certain Poppy Parker doll, and she dropped you here last night?
Jem: -...exactly!...you think she made it on purpose so we would fight against each other???

Wow, I can't believe the Jem legacy is 30 years old! That makes me feel old! Anyways, even though many cartoons of the Eighties made me happy as an 80's kid, Jem & the Holograms will always hold a special place in my heart. The catchy songs, the great characters, the interesting adventures, I could go on and on, but at the end of the day, I'm just a guy who will always side with Team Jem, even though I think the Misfits had better songs at times. Happy 30th Anniversary Jem fans! May Jem & the Holgrams have a truly outrageous influence on more generations to come. 😄😘
Today marks 33 years since Jem and the Holograms premiered. Being a stan as I am I had to do a dedication. A lot has changed in these 33 years. From cassette tapes and records to digital downloads and streaming services. But while trends and technology changes, being Truly Outrageous is timeless

I think the one thing that I love about the show is the fact that Jem and the Holograms ALWAYS seems to get into some sort of danger whether it be falling off of a platform over a killer whale to being attacked by a gang of thugs.

Shane travaille sur le microscope électronique portable Mochii dans le JEM, le module scientifique de la JAXA. En dehors des créneaux réservés par les chercheurs pour la science, il peut aussi être utilisé pour inspecter les petites particules qui pourraient causer des problèmes à notre équipement… ou à notre équipage : respirer des poussières, ce n’est pas bon pour la santé !
Shane working in the JEM with JAXA's Mochii machine. This high-tech facility is nothing less than a miniature scanning electron microscope. At the moment we don't use it for research though, but it is set to inspect the smallest particles that can cause equipment or crew malfunctions (i.e. we can get sick from breathing in dust). It will be available for researchers too.
