In the depth of Winter and in response to recent grey days, here`s Richard Wilson`s work in Brockley of Jazz/Funk legend Roy Ayers and one of his best loved songs.

After being told I needed to start a bucket list 4 years ago (2.24.14) - today I starting it...first guitar!

Jazz-funk is a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat (groove), electrified sounds and an early prevalence of analog synthesizers. The integration of funk, soul, and R&B music and styles into jazz resulted in the creation of a genre whose spectrum is quite wide and ranges from strong jazz improvisation to soul, funk or disco with jazz arrangements, jazz riffs, and jazz solos, and sometimes soul vocals.

Jazz-funk is primarily an American genre, where it was popular throughout the 1970s and the early 1980s, but it also achieved noted appeal on the club-circuit in England during the mid-1970s. Similar genres include soul jazz and jazz fusion, but neither entirely overlap with jazz-funk. Notably jazz-funk is less vocal, more arranged and featured more improvisation than soul jazz, and retains a strong feel of groove and R&B versus some of the jazz fusion production.

Classic album, no need to introduce anyone involved in this record.

Beautiful cover art by artist Jacques Wyrs.

1974 French second pressing on Vanguard label.

my growing jazz/funk selection. i like late 1960's Blue Note stuff, Grant Green, Lou Donaldson, Jimmy McGriff, any record with idris muhammad on drums - not all out funk but when jazz was getting funky. any other suggestions?

A true rarity ! A Psych/Funk/Prog oddity with some sung part in latin that Vladimir Cosma made as a soundtrack for a theater play.

In its quieter parts, its sounds a lot like Cosma's own "Enfance" album, a Library Record he made for the MPI label the same year.

The opening track, "Ballet des allégories" is particularly effective.

1971 French only pressing on CBS label.

Killer Funk album, usually seen as the most common Ice album but strangely, it took me years to find a copy.

1974 French pressing on Musidisc label.
