Her old laptop, that is. We're going to sell it on eBay and we can't have some stranger having all our old e-mails, banking files, and photos now can we? If you ever need to clean a hard drive (and I mean beyond all possible means of recovery), then use DBAN to "nuke" it. Just make sure you clearly label the disc, okay?
Oh, I was such a nerdy kid.
…oh, I'm such a nerdy adult.
I saw my box of of D&D stuff in the garage while looking for a socket set and thought this might be a fitting photo for a recent blog post.
Doing some Spring cleaning, we decided it was time to get rid of all these old 3.5" floppies. The fact that we had to borrow a drive just to read them should tell you just how useful they've been to us.

When I learned how expensive these things were, I just decided to make one myself on the cheap.
I should point out that it's almost time for my colleagues in Kolkata to begin rolling into work. Actually, I'm not convinced that they just don't stay there all the time. I'm pretty sure the guys out in the West Coast offices do.

The damage caused by a burned out resistor on our washer's printed circuit board. The R11 and Q6 were both replaced.

I know that some of you won't read my blog posts since you think I'm a bit long winded, so here's the short version. ;)
I think I can understand why this thing took so long. There are about 100 images (that's not exaggeration, either) in this packet. I can make out some of the various things in them, but it's generally meaningless to me. Let's hope the doctor can sort it out.

Yes, it's nothing but a fancy corkboard with some thumbtacks and several cheap plastic wall clocks.
The map projections with highlighted time zones are simply screenshots from Mac OS X's time zone preference panel.

Jonathan Dyer, Angela Dyer, and I went to a Star Trek Convention to meet James Doohan. Jonathan had some ST trading cards of Scotty for us to get signed. It took me a lot of searching, but I finally found where I had squirreled this away in a file cabinet.
Doohan seemed like a really nice man and it was wonderful to hear some of his stories, both about Star Trek days and his early life.

We had to pull the board back out after our first attempt because I didn't think to properly clearn off the circuit boards coating to expose the copper tracts. Worked great after doing that. Something to do with electricity needing to flow across a resistor or something...

My brother, Stephen, takes a turn at soldering down a ciruit board resistor and triac.
This is the sort of 45 minute repair that your Sears/Maytag repair person is too lazy or incompetent to perform. Therefore, they just want to replace the entire (otherwise fully functional) control board for nearly the cost of a new washing machine.

I voted for change in both houses of Congress today. I voted for some fiscal leadership in my city. I voted that my state not bully gays anymore by trying to tell Virginians what marriage should mean to us (and I'm a straight Christian, even!). I voted because it is my duty to a free and open society.
I also photographed the whole thing since I have little trust in electronic voting machines. (blog post)
…and yes, I completely got the idea to post this photo from Kottke's remainder. Me and many others, no doubt.

Anyone care to count the rings for me to determine how old this tree was?
Read the blog post about this here.
If you have a Maytag Neptune, you need to go to this site and check out ordering a new door lock motor. It is only a matter of time before it fails.
Kudos to Jeff who runs the site. If Maytag and Sears had this level of service, their customers would adore them. Guess what? They don't.

Actually, I nearly buzzed off my Adam's apple with that thing. I've got a nice, red razor burn to show for it, too.
Apple always has such wonderful packaging. However, the "new" iMac has so few parts, unpacking is almost dull. You just pull out the computer and plug in the power cord. Done. I had to take photos like this just to savor the moment for a while.

Remember that cherry tree in our back yard that died? Well, my co-worker did make some very nice bowls out of it afterall. His daughter said that this was the perfect size for M&M's, and I tend to agree.

Wyatt enjoyed getting his hands licked by this young Swiss Brown calf.
Just as an aside on how fast different species' babies grow: Wyatt is nearly 4x older than that calf.

He passed away earlier today and I tried to write about him in a post on my site.

The old iPod 3G looks just kind of ancient now, what with it's separate control buttons and it's tiny little screen.
My blog was featured (is 1 second a feature?) on Wednesday night's 11:00 news on the local NBC affiliate.
Do I still get my 14.98 minutes of fame, or does it just round up to the nearest 15 minutes?
Laying new bamboo hardwood over the building paper layer. The first two boards around the radiator took us about two hours.
