Japanese ONI (Demon)
Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊
The Kinugawa Onsen Fureai Bridge connects Kinugawa town to the hot spring spas (onsen) across the river. An Oni (yōkai, demon, orc, ogre, or troll in Japanese folklore) guards the stairs to the bridge.
[Kinugawa, Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan]
Not as bright now that I painted it. Photographed with my SLR and Mount Fuji added post in Photoshop
I've placed this image on my Zazzle store front. The throw pillow looks really neat

I like the style Japanese and Chinese artists used when painting dragons and demons and other subjects as well. Trying to receate those subjects and styles with a Bic pen is a lot of fun and very time-consuming...but worth it.
DONE. Amazing what some paint and a photo from my Canon SLR can do.
I've placed the image on my Zazzle store. Check out what it looks like on a pillow

A statue of Yasha the demon guards each of the four gates to Shogun Iyemitsu Tokugawa's shrine (tomb) near Nikko.
Original photograph probably 1870-1890, but likely reproduction (on glass projection slide) could have been as late as the 1940s, when it was bought by a US serviceman, 1947-49, during the occupation (1945-52).
the golden kappa statue is located on the Kappabashi Dori in Tokyo (in between Uneo and Asakusa). this tiny little alcove is sandwiched between two shops off of the main street. there's a golden statue of a proud kappa, and some fantastic tile work depicting a kappa head.
an odd little sighting in our yokai tour! shin-osaka had a whole display of cell phone charms featuring this tiny eyebaall guy.
An ancient giant ogre a brute if ever there was one. The oni are vicious beasts considered by some to be demons and revered as gods by few others. They can be blood thirsty when angered.
