In Hinduism, a pandal is a temporary structure set up to usually venerate the god and goddess such as Ganesha during Ganesh Chaturthi, Krishna during Krishna Janmasthami or the Goddess Durga during Durga Puja, known as puja pandal. Pandals are also used for nonreligious activities.

The Durga Pujo atmosphere is magical. The cities all over India, be it New York , London you name them all celebrate Durga Puja is transformed into an open-air art gallery with stunning pandals popping up across the skyline like flowers, the nights lit up by intricate alo’r shaj, the carnival-esque atmosphere, jostling crowds decked up in their best, incense and fragrance from both flowers and perfumes, the all-night revelry and free intermingling with the opposite sex seems like paradise. But it does come with some hiccups. As the excitement fades away with the immersion of the goddess, relationships too might lose their sheen and simply fade away. After all, as Walter Scott in Lochinvar said, 'Love swells like the Solway, but ebbs like its tide'. To which the red-blooded Bengali will reply “Aschhe bochhor, aabaar hobe!” (Once again, next year!)

Tiger Dance is a unique form of folk dance in Dakshina kannada that fascinates the young and the old alike. Since tiger is considered as the favored carrier of Goddess Sharada (the deity in whose honor Dussera is celebrated), this dance is performed during the Dussera celebration. It is also performed during other festivals like Krishna Janmasthami.

Birla Mandir or Lakshmi Narayan Temple: The Birlas, one of the major industrialist houses in India have dedicated shrines to Narayan (Lord Vishnu) and his consort Lakshmi (goddess of wealth) in several cities of India. The one in Jaipur is carved out of white marble and is one of the most magnificent structures built in recent times. It is also one of the most popular temples in the city and is gorgeously decorated on the occasion of Janmasthami, the birthday of Lord Krishna.

Actress & Danseuse, Padmashri Shobana, & her team of students gave a scintillating performance, "KRISHNA" - The English Musical on the occasion of Krishna Janmasthami on 5th Sept 2015, in Chennai.

As per the story, Krishna saw huge preparations for the annual offering to Lord Indra and questions his father Nanda about it. He debated with the villagers about what their 'dharma' truly was. They were farmers, they should do their duty and concentrate on farming and protection of their cattle. He continued to say that all human beings should merely do their 'karma', to the best of their ability and not pray or conduct sacrifices for natural phenomenon. The villagers were convinced by Krishna, and did not proceed with the special puja (prayer).

Indra was then angered, and flooded the village. Bringing all their household possessions, the inhabitants of Vrindavan, along with their cows, took shelter from the torrential rains under Govardhana Hill. For seven days they remained safe under the hill, not even disturbed by hunger and thirst. They were simply astonished to see beautiful Krishna balancing Govardhana Hill on His little finger.

Thus goes the tale of lifting of the Govardhan Hill.

At midnight when the eighth child was born, the guards fell fast asleep and Vasudeva's chain fell off his hands and feet. Wasting no time, Vasudeva picked up the newborn baby, and carrying it in a basket, he started towards Gokul. Gokul was a village of cowherds, located across the Yamuna river, where his friend Nanda lived.

It was a dark stormy night with blinding rain continuously pouring from the sky. When Vasudeva reached the river bank of Yamuna, the river was in spate. The wind and storm were blowing wild, and Vasudeva was in a fix.

"Lord, what should I do," said Vasudeva in a hopeless voice.

Suddenly a miracle happened, the river parted and Vasudeva walked over the river bed. Throughout the way Vasudeva and the baby were protected from rain by the hood of the great eternal snake, Vasuki. Finally, Vasudeva reached Nanda's house.

Thus goes the Legend of Lord Krishna's birth.

At the 75th Anniversary of National Middle School and incidentally Krishna Janmasthami also. Several kids were dressed up as Krishna and Radha. Seeing my camera, people mistook me for a press photographer and chased me around to be photographed of them, this girl was successful [and her mother].
