Nothing prettier than a male American Kestrel sitting on a clean perch with perfect light and blue skies in January. Now I know how it must feel to win the lottery. Love these little Falcons!

It will take quite a number of those to fill up this heron. Worth a look large.

Many years ago I use to collect slot tokens from each casino I visited.

Bank vole foraging for food amongst the autumn leaves

This Tufted Titmouse found an acorn but was unable to crack the nut open. It was funny that it would bother with a nut that was half the size of it's head, quite the challenge for this fellow.

This Cedar Waxwing just hit the jackpot. So nice of this one to give a great pose.

The House Wren has a beak full of insects. I tried to watch if it was going to a nest to feed young or if it was a solo meal, but the tangles were too thick where the wren dissappeared into.

This could be the last bear picture for awhile.

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher ~ (Polioptila caerulea)

This Blue-gray Gnatcatcher stopped its frantic foraging for a moment as it stumbled upon a potential snack dangling from a strand of spider-web.

Just as I was lamenting the lack of phot-ops in the first few days of 2007, this dreary day surprised me with this gorgeous display!

YIPPPPEEEEEE!!!!! :)

for a brief time at the beginning of the 1900s, the word ‘jackpot’ was associated with misfortune, hardship or being in trouble with the law

in his book, the cowboy, philip rollins used the phrase jackpot as an expression to signify a perplexing situation

in 1941, agnes morley cleaveland used the term in her book, no life for a lady‎...one of the characters needed to get “out of a jackpot”

Like I was the only one watching the sun set between the poles of the old casino in Scheveningen. Well .. I was not!!

Fun to play slot machines when you win.

Some mornings work out perfectly. Went to the forest to try and find a male Scarlet Tanager. Hit the jackpot!

13/06/2020; I stood here for numerous evenings already, but then the sunset ended up being disappointing in the end. So even though I live fairly nearby the Twiskemolen, I'm still very glad I finally managed to shoot it with the sunset I was looking for all along.

The fifth thunderstorm in 24 hours gave a tremendous light show over the mountain tonight. Eight years, and this is the first time I've had this opportunity.

[I realize that the landscape looks slightly tilted, but that's the lay of the land. I'm very particular about horizon lines, and this one bugs me, but not going to alter nature.]

Saturday sunrise at Govetts with a few from the camera club, and the weather gods definitely smiled on us. I can't remember a more spectacular show or think of a better setting for it

This Fieldfare was appreciating the fallen apples and doing a good job of keeping its cousins the blackbirds away.

Another bird that can hear a door or window latch at 50 metres and disappear instantly so this shot was taken handheld through the double glazing.

Jeffrey City is a "modern" ghost town. Most of the buildings have been torn down or moved, but a few people are hanging on. I don't know how...

Great Blue Heron ~ (Ardea herodias)

I'm not sure there is a more impressive eater and predator in the bird world. The Great Blue Heron will devour just about anything, and what it is able to maneuver down that narrow neck never fails to amaze me. After this catch, the heron tried several angles but eventually swallowed this Bluegill whole. T-Rex reborn.

This Red Squirrel must have thought it had won the big prize when it found this suet ball on the ground. It tried to drag and even lift the treat back to the bushes but had to abandon that idea because of the size and weight of the suet. I give it a 10 for effort though.
