Here's a photo of me taken by my friend Jack Simpson. We were having coffee this afternoon at a new coffee shop called Mink Chocolates Inc. Really good coffee there, and they have nice chocolates too.

I always love seeing this fine memorial..
I will add some more notes just gleaned from
"The Man With The Donkey" by Sir Irving Benson
The Good Samaritan of Gallipoli .. John Simpson Kirkpatrick late of South Shields UK and ....
The name Abdul is used on p90 & 91 in this book, and Simpson is referred to as Murphy.
p48.. "Evans Sahib, what do you think? Murphy's stonkered."
" 'if ever a man deserves Heaven, he does. Give it to him!' "
"They called him "Bahadur" - that is, "The Bravest of the Brave".
Simpson and his donkey
The story of the soldier who rescued wounded men on Gallipoli with a donkey has been told to successive generations of schoolchildren. Simpson's actions are regarded as the highest expression of mateship, and he remains one of Australia's best known historical figures.

This is Jack Simpson who sold me my first DSLR lens (which I am using to take this photo). Jack used to work at the Granville location of Dunne and Rundle until McDonalds closed their lease and it became a McDonalds. Jack now works at Gastown Photo.
Nice shot if it hadn't had that big head in the way... Had to keep it though because the expressiona on the two girls are priceless...
There's a story behind this photo; Last year Dunnne and Rundle Cameras (the original store on Granville St. in Vancouver) had a closing out party. It was an invitational party to all the previous customers. I myself had been a long time customer. They decorated the walls with photos of customers, cameras et cetera from as far back as 1929, and it was really cool to see all these people from decades ago. There were some photos of me on the wall that I'd never even seen before, and this was one of them. I'm pretty sure it was taken by my good friend Jack. He's very sneaky with the camera, and he shoots lots of great candids. I think this was in my late 20's, but I don't even remember having big chops like that. In any case, I was surprised to see it.
