Quick hack I'm working on. It

- grabs data in semi-realtime to server as JSON

- loads JSON data into browser as users mouse-over.

This is repeated for my flickr, hackernews, lastfm and delicious links. The test run you see here loads a pre-fetched json file using the flickr API to get the latest images I've uploaded. I update this list every couple of hours or so. Here the test data is simply a static file.

Sure the layout is borked (size etc). But you can see the image with the mouse run over it is constructed via the JSON file building a link with an image in the url with title and link. The result will be sort of real-time. The trade-off is data from my updated sites that will be current today, not necessarily the last minute.

The interesting bit is extracting the JSON file data and then writing the JQuery script in the $.document.ready function. Chaining works as you would expect and I've added the image to a url by identifying a unique image id (generated in Javascript at runtime). A lot to do but it shows me with a bit of preprocessing at the server

- python api request to flickr

- build & check valid JSON file

Then have a small Javascript library using my own tools that read JSON, build an array of objects then hand to JQuery to render a result.

I'll be writing a more detailed example showing how I used the flickr API with python, the resultant JSON file, JQuery and Firebug at a future date.

Als erste europäischeBahn bietet SBB Cargo damit ein Track-and-Trace-System an. «Auf einen Blick erhält der Kunde eine Übersicht über seine laufenden Sendungen», erklärt Gianpaolo Leccardi. Zentrales Element der Webanwendung ist eine Karte. Mit farbigen Symbolen sind darauf die aktuellen Standorte aller Sendungen des betreffenden Kunden aufgeführt. Bei Wagen, die verspätet unterwegs sind, taucht ein Symbol mit Uhr auf. Klickt man darauf, wird die Dauer der Abweichung vom Fahrplan eingeblendet. Der Anwender kann auch zur Listenansicht wechseln. Dann informiert ihn Cargo View über die Details seiner Transporte: das Gewicht, den Inhalt und andere nützliche Daten.

Sprung in die heutige digitale Zeit.

Die Kunden von SBB Cargo konnten sich schon bisher online über Stand und Inhalt ihrer auf der Schiene beförderten Waren informieren. Sie mussten dazu aber die Lieferungen einzeln abrufen. «Mit Cargo View schaffen wir den Sprung ins digitale Zeitalter», sagt Leccardi. Den Kunden vermittelt die Information in Echtzeit mehr Sicherheit und Transparenz. Zudem erleichtert sie ihnen die Planung der nachgelagerten Prozesse. Die Testkunden beurteilen die Innovation denn auch sehr positiv. «Dank Cargo View können wir rasch nach Alternativen suchen, wenn die Änderungen bei der Lieferzeit das nötig machen», sagt Jonas Augusto, Direktionsassistent Logistik bei der Ciment Vigier SA. Eine praktische Vereinfachung der Abläufe bietet auch Cargo Check-in. Mit der App kann der Rampenmitarbeiter das Check-in jetzt direkt selber erledigen. Dadurch gewinnt der Anwender wertvolle Zeit, die Daten werden zuverlässiger. Die dritte Anwendung, Cargo API, erlaubt es, die von SBB Cargo bereitgestellten Daten in die Systeme der Kunden einzuspeisen. Das ist vor allem für grössere Unternehmen interessant, die auch andere Transportwege nutzen. Die Markteinführung der drei neuen Angebote erfolgte im ersten Quartal 2018. Diese gliedern sich in drei Pakete: Start, Basic und Expert – siehe auch hier.

Panlog ist als Spediteur für Swiss Steel tätig. Wir wollen die Transporte nach Emmenbrücke frühzeitig erkennen und uns auf die Schätzung der Ankunftszeit verlassen können. Mit Cargo View ist diese Früherkennung der Transporte nun einfacher und bildet eine gute Ergänzung zum Buchungssystem von CIS-online. Die Plattform passt zu unserer Strategie der Digitalisierung von Transportinformationen und Sendungsdaten und hilft bei der Disposition der Ressourcen.

Die Entwicklung geht weiter.

Die Digitalisierung verändert SBB Cargo grundlegend. Die Erfahrungen aus dem Projekt Cargo Digital fliessen in diesen Prozess ein. «Wir wissen inzwischen gut, was wir mit den Daten tun können und wo wir Wirkung bei unseren Kunden und intern erzielen», bilanziert Gianpaolo Leccardi. Noch in diesem Jahr will das Team – mit Patrick Sorg als neuem Product Owner – weitere Anwendungen lancieren. Hierzu gehören das internationale und das End-to-End-Tracking, die den Kunden zusätzliche Transparenz über ihre Verkehre auf den internationalen Strecken sowie zwischen Ladestelle und Bahnhof liefern, zudem eine vereinfachte Leerwagenrückmeldung per Smartphone, die Applikation «Cargo Insights», damit die Kunden zeitnahe Informationen über Abweichungen ihrer Transporte einsehen können, sowie «Cargo Storage», eine neue transparente Wagenstandgeldabrechnung.

Drei Applikationen auf einen Blick.

Cargo Check-in

Die Android-App ermöglicht das Check-in direkt an der Rampe. Der Mitarbeiter erfasst per Scan die Wagennummer auf seinem mobilen Gerät. Er vervollständigt die Angaben mit dem Gewicht und erledigt das Check-in gleich nach dem Belad. Die Information wird direkt an SBB Cargo übermittelt.

Cargo View

Die Onlineplattform gibt den Kunden den Überblick über ihre Sendungen. Auf der Karte mit Track-and-Trace-Funktion erkennen diese Standort und Status ihrer Transporte. Hinzu kommen die übersichtlich gestalteten Informationen mit den gewohnten Sendungsdetails.

Cargo API

Die moderne REST-Schnittstelle im JSON-Format erlaubt es den Kunden, die von SBB Cargo bereitgestellten Sendungsdaten in ihr eigenes System einzuspeisen. Einmal aufgebaut, lässt sich diese Schnittstelle einfach und flexibel erweitern.

The advantage of using the flickr public feeds is a) more data can be accessed with less complexity (api + authentication + hidden stuff like frequency). Now I can add tags to the url title tags. Run the mouse over the image & get a hint of what it's about. Rather than looking at a bigger image with a roll over, choose if you want to see the bigger image which is one click away.

Skátne Tión:nis - Many Faces, One Mind Vernissage at AbTeC Gallery by Obx Labs

For AbTeC Gallery’s second exhibition, we present portraits that were created right here on AbTeC Island by a group of youth aged 14-22 from both Kahnawá:ke and Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal, as well as the workshop facilitators.

The images were the outcome of POP Montreal’s sixth annual collaboration with non-profit organization LOVE (Leave Out Violence) Québec. POP invited AbTeC Co-Director Skawennati to work with the group and she, in turn, enlisted AbTeC team members Maize Longboat and Kahentawaks Tiewihsaw to help deliver the Skins 7th Generation Character Design Workshop, a workshop that gives participants the opportunity to imagine an Indigenous future. The youth were asked to imagine, sketch and develop one of their great-great-great-great-great grandchildren.

Over the course of one week in July 2019, the participants met up each morning at Concordia University. They started with good ol’ pencil and paper, and from there were guided into the 3D environment where they transmediated their 2D drawings into their very own avatars. In-world, they learned how to customize clothing, create mini-sets and capture pictures (called “machinimagraphs”). They were then taught how to Photoshop to turn their portraits into these works of art.

The portraits were printed and hung in a real-life exhibition during the Pop Montreal festival. We thought it would be exciting and very fitting to put them into our virtual gallery. Complementary to the portraits, 3D elements and accessories that helped make each avatar unique will be on display Because we could!

The title of the exhibition came directly from the participants, and was translated into Kanienkeha by Trina Stacey.
