Joshua Trees grow slowly. This large one could be a couple hundred years old.
The sky over Joshua Tree National Park always seems to be full of contrails from jets coming and going to LA airport.

Yucca brevifolia, or Joshua tree, is plentiful in Joshua Tree National Park. Their common name is said to have been given to them by Mormon settlers who thought their outstretched arms reminded them of a Biblical story about Joshua.
The trees grow about 3 inches a year in the first 10 years and thereafter about 1 1/2 inches a year depending on conditions. They can live for hundreds of years topping out at around 50 feet. There is concern that climate change will impact their ability to survive in their namesake park.

My travel agent did not even mention this beautiful place and gave me actually a route north of it, but I'm having some trouble following recommendations
Another of the big black storm clouds at Joshua Tree National Park. The rock formations in the park are really remarkable, as are the Joshua Trees. There is not nearly as much bloom this year as last. Guessing they need more rain than they got as the other flowers were not as abundant either. The sad effects of the drought in CA.
Joshua Tree in California is one of my favorite national parks in the United States. Its vastness makes me feel as though I am in a primordial, ancient landscape where a dinosaur might hide behind the many unique rock formations and appear at any moment.
I felt the need for a road trip - visited Boron California via Lightroom, remembered how thrilled I was to see a Joshua tree and young 'un as we entered the deserted town, never saw a single person as we meandered through on a late November afternoon.
Polaroid image taken out in the desert after the storm where a beautiful sunset appeared. This image was soaked in water for 3 weeks to become what it is now.
Not actually a tree but a member of the Agave family. Yucca brevfolia are the genus and species. This is the indicator plant for the Mojave Desert. Produces beautiful white flowers in the spring. Inedible fruits. Show with a Pentax 645 using a Pentax 75mm. Film was Arista 100 and developed in Rodinal at 1:50.
