From Wikipedia:
The Dhaulagiri massif in Nepal extends 120 km (70 mi) from the Kaligandaki River west to the Bheri. This massif is bounded on the north and southwest by tributaries of the Bheri River and on the southeast by Myagdi Khola. Dhaulagiri I is the seventh highest mountain in the world at 8,167 metres (26,795 ft) above sea level. It was first climbed on May 13, 1960 by a Swiss/Austrian/Nepali expedition.
The mountain's name is धौलागिरी (dhaulāgirī) in Nepali. This comes from Sanskrit where धवल (dhawala) means dazzling, white, beautiful[3] and गिरि (giri) means mountain.[4] Dhaulagiri I is also the highest point of the Gandaki river basin.
Annapurna I (8,091m/26,545 ft) is only 34 km. east of Dhaulagiri I. The Kali Gandaki River flows between through its notable gorge, said to be the world's deepest. The town of Pokhara is south of the Annapurnas, an important regional center and the gateway for climbers and trekkers visiting both ranges as well as a tourist destination in its own right.

First day of the Annapurna circuit trek during monsoon June 1984. That time there was no highway, no bus routes on the trail to Jomsom.
The photo was taken with my Nikon FE2 on Fujichrome slide film with a 50 mm lens.
I photographed the slide bracketing it with a Nikon D600 camera and enhanced the picture in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Waking up at 4 am and trekking up to Poon Hill 3210 m Nepal in darkness and in freezing coldness from Ghorepani 2800m took almost 1.5 hrs but the effort was well rewarded a spectacular view of the Himalayan Snow Mountains Range directly infront of me with people from all over the world.
Villagers were busy harvesting and working in their rice fields and the backbreaking tasks are done with their hands.
While trekking the Annapurna Circuit in the Dhaualagiri near Jomsom, we hiked up to a very remote mountain village that was built right on the mountains edge. The animals were nestled in the lower portion of the homes, and the children played on the rooftops. I will share more images of this charming little village soon. I'm hoping to go through my notes and find out the name of this village as well. It's worth the little extra hike up the mountain to see.
