In 2001 Ted Atkins led the RAF Mountain Rescue Service’s Everest Expedition during which several rescues were carried out and Dan Carroll and Rusty Bale summitted. The was the first successful single service expedition to climb Everest. The decision to take a wooden building as their base-camp HQ proved very popular with both expedition members and the numerous visitors. These photos were taken by base-camp manager David ‘Heavy’ Whalley.
