View on the watchtower on island Texel.

Texel is a municipality and an island in the province of North Holland (situated north of Den Helder) in the Netherlands. It is the largest and most populated island of the West Frisian Islands in the Wadden Sea.

The moment I saw this (I had been walking on the beach for some hours), it reminded me immediately of the song "All Along The Watchtower", lyrics by Bob Dylan and performed by Jimi Hendrix. Enjoy ;-))

ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER

There must be some kind of way outta here

Said the joker to the thief

There's too much confusion

I can't get no relief

Business men, they drink my wine

Plowman dig my earth

None were level on the mind

Nobody up at his word

Hey, hey

No reason to get excited

The thief he kindly spoke

There are many here among us

Who feel that life is but a joke

But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that

And this is not our fate

So let us stop talkin' falsely now

The hour's getting late, hey

All along the watchtower

Princes kept the view

While all the women came and went

Barefoot servants, too

Outside in the cold distance

A wildcat did growl

Two riders were approaching

And the wind began to howl

This mural is from East Vancouver where Hendrix (from Seattle) spent some time with his grandmother. He often came for visit and play on the streets in this neighbourhood. This 2007 mural was painted by artists Nelson 'Dedos' Garcia and Xochitl. Hendrix's Grandma Zenora Hendrix (also on the mural), who worked as a cook at a Vie’s chicken and steak house in Hogan’s Alley. Jimi Hendrix died at the age of 27. Senior Citizen sounds strange, but this year would be his 80th birthday (born 27. November, 1942). In Vancouver there is even a shrine to Hendrix.

Come mai proprio a Essaouira?

Happy Textural Tuesday!

Landmark hotel in New York City with a colorful history of attracting legendary creative types.

This mural of Jimi Hendrix is a quite faithful copy of a very well known poster designed by to help advertise Hendrix's 1969 tour of Germany and was created by a very talented artist, Gunther Keiser. The mural was painted by local artist Kyle Holdridge in 2023. A bit more info that I gleaned from the www is below.

In the Uptown area Minneapolis, Minneasote, a vibrant, colorful mural of legendary musician Jimi Hendrix stands tall and proud, capturing the essence of his musical spirit. Measuring 40 feet wide and 17 feet tall, this stunning piece of art was painted by artist Kyle Holdridge in just three days, using nothing but spray guns. The mural, which is located on the side of the Corner Store Vintage on the corner of Lake Street and Bryant Avenue, is a stunning tribute to the iconic musician who changed the course of music history. Hendrix, known for his electrifying performances and innovative guitar playing, was a true trailblazer in the music industry, and his influence can still be felt to this day.

German artist Gunther Kieser was one of the top designers of rock concert posters in the 1960s. Besides Hendrix, Kieser also designed memorable posters for the Grateful Dead, The Doors, Miles Davis, Traffic, Fleetwood Mac and The Who. He also did several album covers for the BlueNote jazz record label.

Gunther Kieser created this masterpiece for a January 19, 1969 performance in Stuttgart, Germany. The original poster carries the correct concert date of January 19, 1969 at the lower left, while the merchandise posters carry an incorrect date of January 15 (Hendrix was in Berlin that day). Due to the tremendous popularity of this image, it has been printed at least four times and bootlegged several more.
