As the coronavirus pandemic sweeps through my area, I may not always have time to come up with new ideas for my flickrstream. As such I may simply do an update and a few statistics and a photograph of myself to keep my 365 going.

I am a nurse in Louisiana. At present we have the fastest infection rate of COVID-19 in the world. Many think it is the result of the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans on February 26. They are quite possibly correct. If so we will see other areas spike as well as people come to Mardi Gras from all over the world. The predictions are dire. Our governor has instituted stay at home orders for all nonessential workers.

I am a procedural and surgical nurse. I feel ill equipped to deal with what is coming. And it is coming. I feel as though I'm standing on the beach after feeling an earthquake and see the water rushing out to sea, knowing the tsunami is on the way.

We are taking stock and preparing. We are trying to learn as quickly as possible from those areas at their peak and those who have passed their peak. We know we have neither the supplies nor the staff to fight this easily. We know there will be casualties among us, and tough choices will have to be made. But we cannot run. If we do not stand in the breach who will?
