I took these photos as a kind of tribute to the "Little Black Dress Barbie" line that was out a few years ago! They were amazing dolls! That was the line that peaked my interest and set me on the path to collecting Fashion Dolls and Action Figures.

I was at a point in my life where I needed a new creative outlet to help me keep my sanity! My mother was battling cancer, my father was struggling with Alzheimer's and my life was about being a caretaker. Not that I am complaining! My Parents are both gone now and I will always be grateful for the time I had with them in the final years of their lives. Nothing was left unsaid and I truly have no regrets!

Anyway, those little black dresses led me to discovering Jason Wu's Fashion Royalty and the rest, as they say is history!

Modeling are Your kind of model Kesenia, Rare Appearance Dania, and Nocturnal Glow Veronique!

Donyale (known in the modeling world as Strut) is getting a bit impatient as she waits for her sisters to go out to dinner:

"Why am I always the first one ready to go out? Why am I always waiting for them? I should tell them that Pres. Obama has invited us to dine with him at the restaurant but only if we can be there in 15 minutes! Girls, let's get this show on the road!"

*I don't think I had given Strut a name before. Her new name is an homage to model Donyale Luna (1945-1979), who in 1966 became the first Black model to appear on the cover of a Vogue magazine (March, British Vogue) and was featured in an article in Time magazine.

Though the great Namoi Sims (1948-2009) is acknowledged to have become the first Black supermodel, Naomi Campbell's name is a sufficient homage to her for our purposes, so this is a small tribute to Donyale.

March, 1955:

Dorothy Dandridge (1922-1965) arrives at the 27th Academy Awards. She is nominated for Best Actress for "Carmen Jones" alongside Grace Kelly for "The Country Girl"; Judy Garland for "A Star Is Born"; Audrey Hepburn for "Sabrina"; and Jane Wyman for "Magnificent Obsession." Grace Kelly won though movie history seems to prove that Judy Garland deserved the award.

Though it is a cliche to say that all nominees are winners, the fact that a nomination can lead to many film offers makes that seem true. Except...Dorothy Dandridge, living in a time of extremely few roles for Black performers, went to Oscar night as a nominee without one film offer. It is no wonder that when Halle Berry, who played Dorothy in an excellent HBO movie, won the Oscar several decades later for "Monster's Ball," paid tribute to Dorothy in her acceptance speech and said, "This [moment] is so much bigger than me." Dorothy had paved the way, even if she did not reap the rewards in her lifetime...

As this event was advertised as not being a convention, I never hoped for a grand finale with Jason Wu dolls, you read me well, there were two dolls offered as made to order as Aymeline going to the 'Girl and the City' premiere red carpet ... This one is the most interesting because that Aymeline is my dream come true doll, she is exactly as I wanted one, redhead, green eyes, japan skintone and a muted make up on the first Aymeline screening ... and she is wearing a dress inspired by the custom one worn by Kristin Davis (who plays Charlotte in the SATC show) at the premiere of the 'And Just Like That ...' new show ... What a beautiful tribute to the original and present shows by Jason Wu

We were so unhappy with the NAP nightmare last winter that we begged the W Club to allow us to get an Aymeline available to the Club and here they are (the second one is a brunette wearing a dress inspired by a Fall 2022 dress worn by Lady Gaga last spring ... but I don't have the budget to get both so I'll only get my favourite for sure ...

16" Madame Alexander Neo Cissy doll named Bon Bon from the Jason Wu line

Princess Bon Bon is in a contemplative mood today. There is unrest and dissatisfaction in society and she wonders how things will turn out. Whatever happens, she knows that

"...We all must take

Precautionary measures

If love and peace you treasure

Then you'll hear me when I say that

Love's in need of love today

Don't delay

Send yours in right away

Hate's going round

Breaking many hearts

Stop it please

Before it's gone too far...."

The second doll in Jason Wu's 10th anniversary has been announced last week and today she went on sale. She is probably already gone, as I tried to find her on Net-a-porter site and there is no sign of her.

I have to admit I do not feel her. She looks just like another Elise and I hope they will do something about her, as my interest for this sculpt is slowly vanishing. Regarding the outfit, this simple gown is not something we haven't seen before and looks too much simple. I think they chose wrong design, as there are so many amazing designs that would look special and much more interesting in doll size. I think Elise would look particularly good in that grey suit and jacket with her androgen features. Or in tan skintone and lovely golden gown.

What do you think of her? Did anyone get her?

When I discovered Isabella in her beautiful lace teddy, I immediately thought of that dress ... I was able to get it many months ago at a reasonable price and was still waiting for the perfect doll to wear it ... The lace isn't the same but it could be a beautiful ensemble to put together ... Veronique dress is white lace on a cream fabric when Isabella's teddy is made of white lace on blush pink fabric ... I really hope to see it in hand someday ...

16" Madame Alexander Paris Williams Dolls; left was produced before Jason Wu; on the right is the doll designed by Jason Wu

Paris (left) and Alex (right) are good friends. Paris is slightly older--she is part of the 'original' era of African American Alex and Paris Williams dolls. Afterwards, I believe it was in the latter part of the first decade of the century that Jason Wu--who started out designing dolls, not merely their fashions--of Integrity Toys/Poppy Parker fame designed the Alex/Paris dolls for a while.

Some people debate which 'era' they prefer--pre-Wu or Wu. I am enamored of both but slightly prefer the Jason Wu girl (right) only because the other girl (left) seems a bit 'Old Hollywood Glamour' and his girl is more modern. You can see differences in the eyes, eyebrows, fullness of the lips, color of eyeshadow, etc.

Some people compare other aspects of the size of their heads and other parts of their bodies but I haven't gone into all of that here. This is just a short 'tear and compare.'
