On the left is what a .jpg looks like when I have it open in Photoshop CS3. On the right is what it looks like when I look at the photo outside Photoshop. (Not that I necessarily want it too look like the one on the left, I'm just sayin' for demonstration purposes).
I never used to notice this, but since summer I have noticed all my files looking more subdued when I save them.
Anyone know why this happens and/or how to fix it?
A rather fine booklet issued by the GPO - General Post Office - about the Faraday Building on Queen Victoria Street in London that was "the centre of the British telephone service". Here was centred not just two major local telephone exchanges - City and Central - but also the origination point for all international calls and radio services.
The original building had been opened in 1890 to serve the Post Office Savings Bank and part was first used for telephone purposes in 1904; long distance services were added in 1904. The booklet is undated but makes play of the opening of the purpose built International Telephone Exchange section in 1933, designed by A.R. Myers, architect in the H.M. Office of Works. Faraday House was further extended in 1938/39 to deal with increasing service requirements and, in 1942, a more secure wing known as the Citadel was constructed.
The booklet describes the various services in detail and a selection of pages are scanned here. In terms of graphic design it is very much in line with the corporate 'look' of the GPO at the time that was often very contemporary in terms of both design and typography. Oddly no designer nor printer is shown.

At the City end of London Bridge this woman is often selling the Big Issue. In fair weather, as we walk to the office, she airs her feet. This day was freezing and each time the viewfinder swept across her it was obvious how cold she was and how so many people just walked straight past. Pressing the shutter release felt like a massive intrusion.
Then I saw the magazine cover. If you're homeless, not even sex sells sometimes. I press the shutter release.
And things change. By the time I had been to buy her a tea and some food she already had 2 more cups, sandwiches and somebody to talk to.

I found a differant park I hadn't been to so on my way up the trail to the end I meet this couple.. A little strainge especially with the temp around 90's but I figure she has issues with the sun.

For the record, I believe the application of this label was done, based on the decision of one or two people, possible based of a parental complaint. I do not believe that the State Library of WA, as an institution, is homophobic.
I am not just some fanatical, political raving lunitic, I am a library student, who has previously been employed in public libraries in WA, and I hope to one day become a children's librarian. I am aware of the kind of complaints librarians recieve about their collection, and their practices, but I do not belive that this label is the way to respond to such complaints.
