Isolation.... somehow a bitter reality... we are becoming isolated human beings with limiting our connection to the real world. we become hopeless and depressed, and come under fear and loose our motivation to most of the things. We build walls around us so no one can reach there.
Ijs. . Brusselse Wafels.. Bon Bons... Gelati. . Another language... but everyone loves a Belgian/ Dutch ice cream shop . ..and years ago the ice cream cycle sellers. AND... it's still open! But...one at at time. . and NO cones! And you cannot eat it on the streets...

New Italy. Whilst the area was still very much a wilderness a group of Italian immigrants arrived to settle here between 1882 and 1888. 1,200 acres was taken up and the Italians cleared and farmed the land in social isolation from the British white settlers. The village had a school (1885) and although the building has gone the Hoop Pines planted by the students in 1891 still remain. Most of the village area of New Italy is an archaeological site these days with little left of the early settlement. How did the Italians get to NSW? Assisted migration for non-British settlers was not allowed. But the NSW Premier Sir Henry Parkes assisted these Italians after the disastrous Marquis de Rays expedition to the Pacific in 1881. Marquis de Rays, a French nobleman, wanted to establish a great French colony on what is now called New Ireland, a part of Papua New Guinea. He was going to call this place New France. He began in 1877 by self-proclaiming himself Charles King of New France. In 1880 he charted four ships to carry 570 French, German and Italian immigrants to New Ireland. He misled the immigrants by saying a bustling town existed and arable land was available. Neither was true and upon arrival many immigrants died of malaria before they could explore the jungles. Most fled to New Caledonia or Australia. Marquis De Rays had never been there and he was arrested for fraud and imprisoned for six years. It was Sir Henry Parkes who took pity on arrivals from New Ireland and assisted them to stay in NSW. One ship had only had Italian immigrants and most from the Veneto region. Eighty of the 300 Italians had died before the ship got to Sydney. The land they got near Woodburn was heavily timbered with poor soil but by 1888 New Italy had 250 residents farming vegetables, fruit, corn, sugar and grapes. But families started to move to better areas including Queensland from 1900. The school closed in 1935 and the last resident died there in 1955. The farms reverted to native bushland. Today the New Italy Museum (founded 1983) tells the story of this pioneering settlement and it showcases all things Italian. It has a museum, memorials, an Italian pavilion, café and community hall. The Italian pavilion with its replica David statue from Florence has been funded by the Italian government with displays from the 1988 Brisbane World Expo donated to the pavilion. It tells the story of North Coast NSW Italians as well as Italians in Australia in general.

I think she is my only doll who is pretty much complete! I do eventually want to change her body for one of the small busted new line bodies from Souldoll, but for now she's basically finished!

So I'm not allowed to leave the house for the next ten days or so thanks to bloody COVID. All of a sudden the windows to the outside seem to be getting smaller!
Mr & Mrs !ShT!@Q went to take a closer look at Ultar and to get as personal as they can.. Ultar Peak, meadows & Glacier were viewable... But there was a dead-end ahead.. They may need to goto houn pass for it... But just found another path to go. An adventure of the life time climbing up the right water channel.

Finn Slough is a tiny Fraser River fishing community located at the south end of No. 4 Road in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. The community has approximately 30 residents who live in wooden houses, both floating and built on stilts, along the marshy river bank. Many of the buildings were built between the late 19th century and 1950s and many have decayed severely, while some have been carefully restored. Finn Slough was founded by Finnish settlers who came to Richmond in the 1880s. Most of these residents made a good living from fishing and became local landowners.

Finn Slough (or sometimes Gilmore or Tiffin Slough) can be found on the south arm of the mighty Fraser River in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. The Slough is bounded on the Fraser River side by Gilmour Island and on the north by a dyke built to protect Richmond. Access to homes on the Gilmour Island side of the Slough is by a wooden draw-bridge, creating a definite sense of isolation from the nearby urban areas of Richmond and Vancouver.
