Three small antechambers, flanked by dark rooms, leads to the sanctuary which is lit by two small windows. It still contains the pedestal placed here by Ptolemy III Euergetes I and his wife Berenice for the image of Isis in her sacred bark. The granite shrines (naos) were removed to European museums during the 19th century. From her sanctuary, the statue of Isis would have been carried out in processions from the temple on her ceremonial barque to make the short crossing to the island of Bigeh to visit the tomb of her spouse, Osiris

As you all know, sometimes I am as wide eyed and starry looking at some of the celebrities at these conventions as Harley. Joanna Cameron was in the house; she played the "Isis" character on Saturday morning television back in the mid seventies. A gorgeous brunette in a fetching white costume with short skirt, she would marshal the forces of the elements to bring justice and quell evildoers. She was very nice to me and we had a good chat about her show and about her new home in Hawaii. And as the pictures show she has aged well.

HMS Isis was an I-class destroyer launched in November 1936. Whilst off the Normandy beaches on 20th July 1944, she struck a mine and sank with the loss of 154 crew.
This fascinating museum contains WW2 items recovered after many years underwater, including these components.

23.12.2012: Aphrodite-Isis, probably Egypt, late 2nd-early 3rd century AD, bronze, showing the naked goddess Aphrodite wearing the combined crown of the Egyptian goddesses Isis (plumes) and Hathor (cow horns and sun disk). The ears of corn probably relate to the identification of Isis with Demeter, Greek goddess of agriculture. Museum of Israel.
