location : Kamikochi ,Matsumoto city,Nagano prefecture,Japan

altitude : 1,500m (4,921 ft) high

Kamikōchi (上高地 Upper Highlands) is a remote mountainous highland valley within the Hida Mountains range, in the western region of Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

It has been preserved in its natural state within Chūbu-Sangaku National Park. It is designated as one of Japan's National Cultural Assets, on the list of Special Natural Monuments and Special Places of Scenic Beauty.

Kamikōchi is a high mountain valley approximately 18 kilometers in length. The average elevation of the valley floor ranges between roughly 1,400 m (4,600 ft) above sea level at the south end and roughly 1,600 m (5,200 ft) at the northern tip.

Kamikōchi is located in the Hida Mountains, the "Northern Alps" of the Japanese Alps. The surrounding mountains reach 3,190 m (10,470 ft). Kamikōchi is bordered on its northern end by Mount Hotaka, and on its southern end by Mount Yake, an active volcano.

The Azusa River flows the length of the valley, filling Lake Taishō at the base of Mt. Yake. Lake Taishō received its name because it was formed by the eruption of Mt. Yake in 1915, which was part of the Taishō period in Japan.

Because of the relatively flat topography of the Kamikochi Valley, marshes and ponds are a common feature, including the Takezawa Marsh, Tashiro Pond, and Myojin Pond. As the waters are mainly from melted snow runoff or underground aquifers, the water temperature is cold, even in the height of summer. The Tokusawa area at the far northern end of the valley served as a grazing area for horses and cattle until 1934, when the area was completely integrated into the park.

The pool is one of nine sites between Nijo and Shijo Street where cargo was loaded or unloaded and boats changed direction on the Takase-gawa Canal. The other eight similar pools were filled in and this last remaining site is designated as a Historic Site of Japan.

The Takase-gawa runs parallel to the Kamo River (from which it takes its water) and flows southward to Fushimi. The canal was dug around 1614 by Ryoi Suminokura 角倉了以 and his son.The depth of the water in Takase-gawa 高瀬川 is shallow so flat- bottomed boats called Takase-bune 高瀬舟 were used, after which the river was named.

More than a hundred boats operated along the canal during its heyday carrying cargo to and from Osaka and other cities via Fushimi , and the canal made a significant contribution to the economic prosperity of Kyoto.

Though cargo-carrying activities were discontinued in 1920's,the Takase-gawa , with its poetical scenery, clear waters and beautiful cherry trees and willows along the bank ,continues to please citizens and visitors today.

However ,unfortunately we can not see beautiful autumn leaves this year in Kyoto .The leaves are almost get off and gone from the trees in 'not-peak' condition.. the colours of leaves doesn't change green to yellow,or to deep red at the moment.

(Actually, in Ohara ( Rakuhoku area)close to my house, foliage this season has not been as brilliant as last year,so I've not had chance to enjoy the beauty of changing colours :(

That are being effected by global warming, lack of coldness at the turn of the season.. perhaps,I think...So I intend to try to take photos here at the next opportunity :)

Renchi-ken House 廉池軒 in Korakuen gardens 後楽園

location : Korakuen Garden,Okayama city,Okayama Prefecture,Japan

Kōraku-en (後楽園 Kōrakuen), is a Japanese garden located in Okayama, Okayama Prefecture. It is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, along with Kenroku-en and Kairaku-en. Korakuen was built in 1700 by Ikeda Tsunamasa, lord of Okayama. The garden reached its modern form in 1863.

In 1687, the daimyo Ikeda Tsunamasa ordered Tsuda Nagatada to begin construction of the garden. It was completed in 1700 and has retained its original appearance to the present day, except for a few changes by various daimyo. The garden was originally called Koen ("later garden") because it was built after Okayama Castle. However, since the garden was built in the spirit of "sen-yu-koraku" ("grieve earlier than others, enjoy later than others"), the name was changed to Korakuen in 1871.

The Korakuen is one of the few daimyo gardens in the provinces where historical change can be observed, thanks to the many Edo period paintings and Ikeda family records and documents left behind. The garden was used as a place for entertaining important guests and also as a spa of sorts for daimyo, although regular folk could visit on certain days.

In 1884, ownership was transferred to Okayama Prefecture and the garden was opened to the public. The garden suffered severe damage during the floods of 1934 and by bombing damage in 1945 during World War II. It has been restored based on Edo period paintings and diagrams. In 1952, the Korakuen was designated as a "Special Scenic Location" under the Cultural Properties Protection Law and is managed as a historical cultural asset to be passed to future generations.

The garden is located on the north bank of the Asahi River on an island between the river and a developed part of the city. The garden was designed in the Kaiyu ("scenic promenade") style which presents the visitor with a new view at every turn of the path which connects the lawns, ponds, hills, tea houses, and streams. - wikipedia

       Kyoto city, Kyoto prefecture,Japan

(CNN) - Kyoto's Sagano Bamboo Forest: One of the most beautiful groves on Earth -

In Japan's Sagano Bamboo Forest, on the outskirts of Kyoto, towering green stalks of the famously versatile plant sway in the wind, creaking eerily they collide and twist, leaves rustling.

The sun filters through the densely packed grove, projecting thin slashes of light onto the dozens of camera-clutching tourists shuffling down the wide trail that cuts through the middle of the forest as they awkwardly angle their shots, attempting to crop human forms out of their frames.

Long gone are the days when you'd get this place to yourself.

If you've ever clicked on a rundown of "places to see before you die" or a compilation of the most beautiful forests in the world, chances are you've seen a photo of Sagano.

Located in the gorgeous Arashiyama district of western Kyoto, the Sagano Bamboo Forest's popularity has expanded in recent years, coinciding with the growing number of Buzzfeed-esque articles that include it on superlative-heavy travel lists.

Though it's the beauty of the bamboo that brings in the masses, those distinct rustling sounds have become an attraction in their own right.

A few years ago the Ministry of Environment included the Sagano Bamboo Forest on its list of "100 Soundscapes of Japan" -- a selection of everyday noises intended to encourage locals to stop and enjoy nature's music.

For the best experience, head out early in the morning or late evening and avoid weekends completely, when Japanese day-trippers descend on the area -- especially in the fall and spring. (There's no admission fee and it's open 24/7.)

     京都 知恩院 方丈庭園

Chion-in (知恩院 Chion-in) in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, Japan is the headquarters of the Jōdo-shū (Pure Land Sect) founded by Hōnen (1133–1212), who proclaimed that sentient beings are reborn in Amida Buddha's Western Paradise (Pure Land) by reciting the nembutsu, Amida Buddha's name.

The vast compounds of Chion-in include the site where Hōnen settled to disseminate his teachings and the site where he died.

The original temple was built in 1234 by Hōnen's disciple, Genchi (1183–1238) in memory of his master and was named Chion-in. While the temple was affiliated more closely in the early years with the Seizan branch of Jodo Shu, its 8th head priest, Nyoichi (1262–1321) was deeply influenced by the priest Ryōkū, a disciple of Ryōchū who was the 3rd head of the Chinzei branch of Jōdo-shū Buddhism, and disciple of Bencho. Later Nyoichi's successor Shunjō (1255–1355) advanced this further by citing a biography where Genchi's disciple Renjaku-bo and Ryōchū agree that there existed no doctrinal differences between them.

Then Renjaku-bo said, "There is complete agreement between what Genchi and Bencho say in their basic teaching. So my disciples should from now on look at the Chinzei teaching as their own. There is no need to set up another school."

By 1450, Chion-in had become fully under control of the Chinzei branch, but had little direct control, due to the outbreak of the Onin War.[1] Numerous buildings in the complex were burnt down in 1633, but were entirely rebuilt by the third Tokugawa Shogun Iemitsu (1604–51) with the palatial structures that stand today.

Sanzen-in is located in Ohara in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto. The temple is in a prominent scenic location among the many other temples in the Ohara area. The first Sanzen-in was built when the great priest Saicho founded Enryaku-ji on Hiei-zan in the 8th century after returning from China where he studied Buddhism. The temple was moved to the present site in the latter half of the 15th century, when Kyoto had been devastated by wars. Historically, members of the Imperial family served for many generations as the heads of the temple. The Amida-Nyorai Sanzon Buddhist statue housed in the temple has been designated an Important Cultural Property by the Japanese government. The temple is widely known for its lovely display of hydrangeas in early summer and maples in autumn.

The Philosopher's Walk (哲学の道 Tetsugaku-no-michi, lit. Path of Philosophy) is a pedestrian path that follows a cherry-tree-lined canal in Kyoto, between Ginkaku-ji and Nanzen-ji. The route is so-named because the influential 20th-century Japanese philosopher and Kyoto University professor Nishida Kitaro is thought to have used it for daily meditation. It passes a number of temples and shrines such as Hōnen-in, Ōtoyo Shrine, and Eikan-dō Zenrin-ji. It takes about 30 minutes to complete the walk, although many people spend more time visiting the sights along the way. On the northern part of the walk, there are good views of the nearby Daimonji. The walk is a popular destination for tourists and locals, especially during hanami. - Wikipedia

The shrine was first built in 947 to appease the angry spirit of bureaucrat, scholar and poet Sugawara no Michizane, who had been exiled as a result of political maneuvers of his enemies in the Fujiwara clan.

The shrine became the object of Imperial patronage during the early Heian period. In 965, Emperor Murakami ordered that Imperial messengers be sent to report important events to the guardian kami of Japan. These messenger, called heihaku, were initially presented to 16 shrines;and in 991, Emperor Ichijō added three more shrines to Murakami's list — including Kitano. -wikipeia

The annual illumination festival 'Kobe Luminarie,', originally held as a requiem for the victims of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake as well as a symbol of dreams and hopes for the ongoing restoration and reconstruction , takes place in Kobe every December. It was first started eleven months after the earthquake in 1995.

Every year the theme and installation change, which is produced by Italian designer Valerio Festi and Japanese artwork producer Hirokazu Imaoka.(Therefore, “Luminarie”- This Italian-sounding name for the event comes from the plural of the Italian “luminaria” which actually refers to small paper lanterns-is used for the event)

They create beautiful layouts and they’re different every year, and that has people from all over the world coming back year after year to see the new light structures.

The first edition Kobe Luminarie was entitled “Of Dreams and the Light/ Dei sogni e della Luce"and it was a message of hope for peoples.

22 years has passed since that- Fortunately we can see the more than 300,000 LED bulbs illuminate the city’s former foreign settlement area and Kobe East Park this year ,too...and the main theme for this year, 2016 is - " Ode della luce/Ode to light"

Now ‘Kobe Luminarie’ became a yearly event that celebrates Kobe’s remarkable recovery from disaster., and attracts millions of people from all over the world.

*Kobe Luminarie has nothing to do with Christmas **

*This year, the festival of light take place between December 2(Fri)-15(Sun )The lights are turned on for a few hours each evening. Major streets in the vicinity are closed to auto traffic during these hours to allow pedestrians to fill the streets and enjoy the lights.

Kobe Harbour ( port of Kobe) :

The Port of Kobe located at a foothill of the range of Mount Rokkō is a Japanese maritime port in Kobe, Hyogo in the greater Osaka area, backgrounded by the Hanshin Industrial Region. In 1970s the port boasted it handled the most containers in the world.

The Great Hanshin-Awaji earthquake on January 1995 destroyed the port seriously and halted much of the facilities and services there ,but has recovered its facilities in two years. and It remains Japan's busiest container port.

When shooting/visiting here, I always think about Kobe's reconstruction following the Great Hanshin earthquake.
