Angela Isadora Duncan (May 26, 1877 or May 27, 1878[a] – September 14, 1927) was an American-born dancer and choreographer, who was a pioneer of modern contemporary dance, who performed to great acclaim throughout Europe and the US. Born and raised in California, she lived and danced in Western Europe, the US and Soviet Russia from the age of 22.
She died when her scarf became entangled in the wheel and axle of the car in which she was travelling in Nice, France.
Angela Isadora Duncan (San Francisco, 27 maggio 1877 – Nizza, 14 settembre 1927) è stata una danzatrice statunitense, considerata una tra le più significative precorritrici della cosiddetta "danza moderna", che contribuì ad avviare.
La Duncan morì tragicamente il 14 settembre 1927, all'età di 50 anni, a Nizza, strangolata dalla lunga sciarpa che indossava che si impigliò fatalmente nei raggi della ruota posteriore della Bugatti (sulla quale era appena salita, salutando gli amici con una frase rimasta famosa: «Adieu, mes amis. Je vais à la gloire!» (trad. trad. "Sono innamorata" ma anche "Addio, amici, vado verso la gloria!).
