Math and I have never been close friends. I remember having this emphasized when I was in junior high and encountered my first algebra class taught by a fellow who had the bedside manner of an irritable Doc Adams in Gunsmoke.
After he had tried to explain to me what an algebraic formula was for the tenth time, he uttered words that I could understand when he said, “I don’t think math will play a big part in your future.”
He was right.
But I was able to learn a few basics. For example, unless things change dramatically between now and next March, I will have seen two Scarlet Tanagers in 80 years. Without using a calculator, I figured that if it takes me that long to observe my next two, I will be 160.
When I excitedly told my wife that, she gave me two words of encouragement: “Good luck.”
This bright specimen may start to migrate in a couple of weeks, although many of his kinfolk won’t leave until September.
They'd better eat well in the meantime, as they have a 3,000-mile trip ahead of them, as they aim toward arriving in the Amazon Basin in South America a week or so before Thanksgiving.

My has she grown up from when I snapped this shot of her sporting the same sunglasses just over a year ago.
Gone are the days of the terrible twos, but she's still very irritable. And her main antagonist is none other than her big sister Jessie. Jessie really knows how to push her buttons and she will push them with great regularity. When Jessie says something and it gets a reaction out of Sydney, she will keep saying it over and over and over again. It usually results in a screamfest between the two of them with Sydney crying. Drives us nuts.
Anyways, when she's not in one of her irritable moods, she has the cutest bubbly personality. This was one of those moments.

Transformation, I feel like it's a term that fits this time of year, at least for me and maybe many of you. The seasons changing mean the days are shorter and nights are longer here in Canada. And with that transformation I find myself changing a bit as well. It used to be a drastic change, I'd be tired and irritable and lost in my mind. But as I've gone through the years, I recognize the transformation of seasons and I allow myself to adapt to them. I go to bed earlier, I drink more water and make a clearer effort to go outside and those all help to make the transformation into Winter-Joel much easier.
For my image I wanted to convey that longing for the one last messenger of Spring before winter hits, the lone butterfly in the image is the last little glimpse of warmer weather that I've been looking for and keeping close.

Love is patient and kind.
Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.
It does not demand its own way.
It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful,
and endures through every circumstance.

Sunsets should be beautiful. Sadly, for many people who are beginning to see the sun of their life move slowly but surely toward sunset, their sunset isn't very beautiful. In the years when you have so much to give, when every day should count more than ever, too many of us actually become uglier as we get older.
Oh, we've all seen it - the older person who is often complaining, self-pitying, demanding. It's not very pretty. We hear so many older parents repeatedly criticizing how their children are living their lives or how they're treating their parents. The older some of us get, the more we can - if we let ourselves - become people who are bitter, picky, resentful, irritable, mean-spirited. Self-absorbed - that's the word that describes some folks as their sun moves toward sunset. And self-absorption ... it's ugly at any age.
Yes, our later years can have their share of physical pain, disappointed dreams, financial strain, grievous losses, frustrating limitations, and even hurtful neglect. We can't choose our circumstances, but we can, whatever our age, choose our attitude. We can choose what kind of climate we're going to bring with us wherever we are: selfish or unselfish, gentle or harsh, praising or griping, critical or encouraging.
Our word for today from the Word of God in Psalm 71, beginning with verse 17, is an exciting perspective as the sun of your life drifts toward the western sky. It's how later life can be when you focus on the faithful God who has been your anchor through it all. "Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come."
That's why you can say "no" to the darkness of the sunset years. That's why your sunset can be what a sunset ought to be - unforgettably beautiful.

HTT to ALL ........
To my fellow photographers... Raise your hand if you have ever spent hours trying to correct/fix something on one of your photos that you don't know how to do very well. Most likely no one would notice the *MISTAKE* nor care anyway, but NO, you sit in the hot weather where your air conditioning is either too cold or not cold enough in cycles just enough to make you really irritable. You're obsessed with fixing your picture! You could be posting ten new things that are fine without adjustment, but NOoooooo.
Now maybe with Google Earth, I might be able to see you raising your hand, if you stand on the roof of your home, but mostly I'll just have to take your word for it. I'm curious how many Flickrites are going to confess to this.
Later on, I might tell you, in order of unimportance, the 2 or 3 things I obsessed over. We could all use a good laugh right now, right?
For Dave C., that's the *soul* of this one.

Tradition sees gondoliers as lovers of eating, drinking, laughing, loud and a little irritable, but the modern conception wants the gondolier well-mannered, cultured, athletic.
They don't know if they will be able to meet all your expectations but they can define ourselves as a group of young, simple and sincere men, who wear the classic black trousers and striped shirt and know how to hold the voice high to attract travelers attention but above all ... they cannot do without the gondola!
Here, right in front our Hotel, was the inGondola station awaiting travelers enjoyment.

Well today is a bit of an unexpected post, I had planned to post another shot this morning, but due to last nights events I think it's more appropriate to post this one :)
I had no intentions of shooting anything last night, I was too hot and pretty irritable to be honest, I'd gone outside to try and cool off a little and I'm glad I did, this amazing light spectacle was on display right before my eyes.
I'd only said a few days ago that it was very rare we saw fork lightning in the UK and even when we do, it's a few strikes and that's it, with this in mind I grabbed a quick shot with my phone expecting it to end pretty sharpish. However, it didn't, I quickly grabbed my camera and set up pointing towards to clouds.
This amazing show must have gone on for well over 20 minutes, I managed to get a video too which I think really demonstrates just how often it was striking!
This is a composite of around 13 shots.

They say comparison is the thief of joy but when you've never visited a place before, you have to set the benchmark somehow to see what else is already out there, right? Combine the Emerson wisdom of going where there is no path and leaving a trail, and learning from the masters who came before you?
Photographers are beautifully mesmerizing liars sometimes though, and I don't even mean anything touching Photoshop. It's all in the way we choose to present a scene. Once I remember trying to find an epic-looking waterfall along the Oregon Coast at Hug Point, only to discover I was taller than the waterfall and the clever, clever photographer had gotten a near ground-level wide-angle perspective that made the thing look massive.
So it is with famous Machu Picchu, up there with the most iconic views in the whole wide world. Photographs can make you believe it's this deserted ghostly Inca fortress, which sounds great until you're there at mid-day struggling for elbow room and avoiding being knocked off a terrace by a selfie stick. Maybe we should tell it like it is more often.
But add me to the list of liars, because here I am showing Machu Picchu not as it looked most of the time I was there, but in the very last beautiful minutes at golden hour before the irritable guards started blowing their whistles and gesturing that the site was about to close and I needed to leave. It looks so empty here - Machu Picchu as we we think it should be. It's not Photoshop. But all the same, don't believe a thing you see, because it's only a fraction of the truth. And so I'm joining the photographic tradition and setting everyone else up for unrealistic expectations of their Machu Picchu visit, so they too can arrive, take in the view swarming with tourists, and think "...another lie photography told me."
Wednesday morning sees an early rise – again, on very little sleep – and a trip to get film developed and find Thomas’s twits costume (all black) in town. We have a quick coffee then head to the darkened theatre. Thomas and his cast are flitting about, and those that aren’t doing anything are ignoring me completely despite a fragile attempt of mine at joining their conversation. They don’t know me, they aren’t to blame, but I am exhausted, impatient and close to tears so I disappear to walk around town for an hour before returning to find Thomas and barely catching the bus I need for my train home.
I’m writing this on the train journey now. It is humid and far too warm, and my hair is stuck to the nape of my neck. I have flitted in and out of sleep, and I know I am no good conversation (my goodbye to Thomas was brief and probably too irritable as I jumped on the bus last minute – he even had to jump on behind me with my bag – but at least it is only a couple of days before he returns home.
I feel ill still, and sleepless, so hopefully a cool shower and early night will solve it. I think the train has just broken down in Sleaford.
(this was taken soon after I got home. I am exhausted).
you can see the last few days and long descriptions in the past few photos on my stream. I'll update my blog with adventures later.

We have to dream in order to survive. If we do not reach REM sleep, we do not dream; we will begin to lose our cognitive abilities; we find it hard to concentrate; we will forget how to do the most ordinary task. Then we become irritable; paranoid; some people can even experience hallucinations.
Now what you might be asking is "why is he wearing only one thigh?" The answer is simple: I ran out of velcro. Also I can't say that the costume is perfect. I go through many irritable fits when the right arm keeps on separating, but luckily does not fall and shatter from all the velcro attached to it. Also, I put the one thigh on a little low so it kept cutting into the back of my knee, so every time I bent my knee it hurt. But this is all trivial, because when I looked in the mirror, I thought oh yeah
If you're susceptible to getting irritable, itchy skin rashes from the leaves of Poison Ivy, you soon learn how to avoid them. It's safe to assume you might develop a phobia about going places where you could unwittingly encounter the plant. The anxieties triggered by Poison Ivy may involve a combination of botanophobia (a general fear of plants) and nosophobia (a fear of illness or sickness).

We are never more discontented with others than when we are discontented with ourselves. The consciousness of wrongdoing makes us irritable, and our heart, in its cunning, quarrels with what is outside it in order that it may deafen the clamour within.

Did I take this photo two days ago? Yes. It counts. It exhibits my mood well. I have too much going on to take a photo today.
But I'm having an awful day.
It all leads back to this day.
I thought it might all go away. I actually thought to myself this morning that things were going surprisingly well. Ugh, I try not to be superstitious but LOOK AT THE DATE.
I think I'm just going to go watch Twilight with a nice hot drink and try not to think about it all.
Today I found two people who'd ripped photos of mine. A little irritating. I'm not the uniquest flickrer but if you're going to rip off an idea so blatantly it wouldn't hurt to add a credit. Ugh. Just adds to my slightly irritable mood today.
Part of the Greek myths series

A plume of smoke and dirty soot rises up through the skeletal remains of the long abandoned International Boiler Works rotting away in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The smog is so thick it swallows the entire building within a veil of black and white, for any and all color is consumed by the grey soot, which much like a dense early morning fog, hangs low to the ground, disturbed only by the occasional winter breeze which whips through the shell of the former factory. Within a second story alcove nestled about the wreckage, a party of Poconos people are stoking a fire with whatever debris they can manage to rummage up from within the industrial ruins. A smoldering hunk of rubber billows blackness into the air, as an empty, yet very much glowing cardboard Pabst Blue Ribbon case shoots embers ceiling high, the ink laden paper consumed nearly instantly by the flickering flames of the fire.
The group of Poconos people soon notice my shadowy presence emerge from within the smokey aura. "Hey man, come up here and join us", a voice barks out from behind a curtain of smoke. With such an invitation, I place with my hands about the rungs of a cold rusty ladder and begin to climb up toward the elevated smoke-filled party room. As my eyes crest above the top rung, I am met by a young gentleman who wreaks of smoke as much as he does marijuana and cheap stale beer. "We've been here since yesterday evening, camped out overnight". "We just woke up actually, trying to get a fire started as you can see", the gentleman responds, as he gestures over toward his friend who is situated outside and feverishly hacking away at a still very much alive tree, attempting to split the lively limbs for fire wood.
Another gentleman was sitting around the campfire within the remnants of a shopping cart which had been bent and distorted into sort-of makeshift chair. Draped over his body was a "Poconos blanket", which consisted of nothing more than mangled blue tarp. Empty Dutch Blunt wrappers skated across the cold cement floor as a frigid winter breeze snuck in through a smashed out window. Aluminum beer cans littering the floor were easy crushed beneath the weight of the live tree limbs, being chucked up from below and tossed on to the fire. "Feel free to hang around awhile man, we'll be here all day", a new voice echoed as a third man appeared from under a cardboard box "sleeping bag".
And such is indeed The Poconos, a strange, depressed, rural ghetto, where the peculiar trumps reality. A stretch of secluded mountains, touted as being merely a 90 minute drive from Manhattan, but in reality, may as well be a universe away. The Poconos is the place where vehicles remaining from years of day-to-day crushing commutes to NYC and back go to die. Parked and abandoned for so long on side streets, mushrooms begin to sprout from the interior, as the flat tires deflate with as much sadness as the owners must posses themselves. The Poconos is a place where honeymoon resorts rot, and crazy caretakers shoot at you with shotguns. The Poconos is a place where those too crazy for the Catskills, go thrive. The Poconos is a place full of Poconos People and it's a place I'd rather not be.

Abused and Abandoned Jungle Dogs.
Back Story .........................................
A few important things we need to discuss first.
Plan was to take the sidecar and a 20kilo bag of
kibble. That plan was changed at the last minute.
Why you ask ? Simple, it's all about safety, my safety !
As mentioned on more then one occasion Thailand is
rated the second most "Dangerous" roads in the world.
Only surpassed by war torn Libya ! Yesterday while out
gathering stuff for the run today, twice crazy drivers nearly
took me out. I might mention I'm driving the scooter/sidecar
with two big colorful windmills spinning like wild in order for
other drivers to always notice me ! Road construction and the
heat has made many drivers quite irritable causing loss of tempers, bad decisions and many conflicts ! Not Good !
So here's what I came up with for the new plan..........................
The 20 kilo dog food bag was split in half. Took a large plastic
bag and filled it up. Placed all the other stuff in the front basket
and under the seat. Now 10 kilos of dog kibble fits comfortably between my legs on the new bike. Much safer being able to weave in and around the crazy drivers. I'll get back to using the sidecar when the road construction is finished and the high temperature drops. Then the crazy drivers won't be so explosive and out of control.
OK, Now lets talk about this photo .................................................
Many of you have seen photos taken in this area from the past.
It's on the second floor at The Dog Palace , notice the Buddhas all lined up against the back wall.
The floor is tile and lots of fun for the dogs to play slip and slide. Their favorite game is "tag your it" which is always instigated by Mama ... ;-)~~~
Maybe 15-20 minutes is taken up with this activity, then it's time out with everybody flat on the floor .................................
Alright with that said there's one more very important item.
If you have been thinking about donating to this cause now
would be a great time to do it. Cupboards have been bare for
sometime and we sure could use some help.
Thanks goes out in advance to anyone willing to donate...... ;-)
Thank You.

The Missive Acte F
Rude and Glorious
He had quickly strolled back down the path, putting distance between him and the twit of a lady foolishly waiting for him to bring back the wine! ……and hopefully that distance will be getting him closer to further the lining his pockets that evening.
He was glad this one ( the twit) had fallen for his letter writing ruse, for her diamonds and jewels he had found to be the most enticing , and felt that she would be the easiest to trick out of said jewels.
She above all the lasses he had paid the lad to deliver handwritten notes of false admiration to…
Though the admiration had not been false, it was simply had been the jewels his chosen marks were wearing, and not them he wanted to lure them out to meet !!
He was smirking as he thought over this, it had been fun to have pretended to be trying to seduce the twit, and by doing so, taking advantage of the poor lass’s gullibility in obtaining her valuables…
He smacked his lips as he placed a hand into his pocket, as he replayed the events, especially,Totally on the cuff, his coming up with the hidden bottle of wine lie to get smoothly away. This diversion had , in his opinion, been sheer brilliant genius on his part……
As he was self-complimenting himself, he turned a corner of the path and stopped dead in his tracks.
The moonlight had lit up a small clearing by a stone Garden house just ahead. And it showed a pretty female standing there, alone, and in all her shimmery fine glory……
“Ello, what ave we ‘ere?” he whispered, salivating , while looking around for any additional signs of trouble.
He thought, as he did so… two out of three then so far… Two birds in a bush he thought, not bothering to heed the sage advice that the rest of the ancient proverb gave….
He automatically went into stalking mode, quietly circling around the prettily gowned Lass… Young ,Pretty with long silky hair. Making sure that, indeed she, and sparkling priceless jewels she had worn along out for the occasion, were indeed all alone…
The lamb before the wolf…!!
Nice of you to wait for me Miss, he smirked thoughtfully to himself under his breath, eyeing her expensive sparklers as he carefully circled in, wishing to approach and ambush from the her back.
He saw that she was still clutching his luring letter.
As he successfully reached his chosen spot, her sweet backside to him, he stopped, and just before he made his entrance, he deliberately snapped a small twig. Maliciously watching her startled reaction as she heard the noise breaking the dreadfully still silence in the night.
He entered the light of the circle, smiling as innocently and shyly as he had done when first looking into the eyes of the hapless, wine waiting, twit he had just left back in the gardens.
She turned, her eyes brightening as she recognized him as one of her dance partners, one with dashed brilliant looks. One of the ones she was hoping had been the letter writer who had so boldly asked her to meet him here..
“Why Hello”, she twittered, placing a hand to her earlobe and pulling at a rather brilliantly shimmering, long diamonded earring, with a nervous twitch.
“Ello.” he said, “fancy meetin you here?”
She smiled…” Come now sir, you must admit writing that letter, the one telling me to come out alone on this misty, dark evening to meet a secret admirer!”
He smiled,” ah yes the letter, so glad you received it my dear lass, so glad you came here, all alone like I had asked.”
“Well” she purred, “Pray to tell one , why was it so important to see me here, alone then .. or will you keep me guessing?”
“I like a lass that comes right to the point!” he parried, smiling winningly, as he took a few more steps towards her, no I will not keep you guessing on that account my pretty one.
She appeared to be quivering in anticipation, waiting for the words he believed she longed to hear. To be uttered enthusiastically by him, to be wooed by him, as he spoke them to her, and then , having a lovers embrace sweep her from her feet. To all appearances, this is what was playing out in her mind. But, however, decidedly not in his….!
He was not surprised at what he read in those green eyes of hers. After all, it was something that he had accurately read countless times before, from his many lured victims….. Whom also found to their woe, that he was not as he appeared to them to be atoll …!!
He finally spoke again…
“Lovely jewels you are wearing this evening, the good uns I see… “ He stated as he reached a hand inside his pocket and pulled out something dark and metallic.
“Wait, what?!” she said… her eyes looking buggered… as she placed a hand to the magnificent necklace dripping down the front of her satin gown in a sparkling flow from her throat….
Them jewels you’re wearing luv, I’ll be having them, and quick, im rather in a dash !! He demanded with a wolfish snarl…..
He had pulled a rather wicked little derringer from his pocket, and held out his hands, fingers beckoning for her to begin as he pointed its business end towards her gown’s shiny waistline….
A sudden noise from the woods caught both their attention, and their heads turned in unison….
To see nothing more than a voyeur owl swooping up into a tree for a better look at what was conspiring in the little glen.
The man breathed an inward sigh of relief, and turned back to his victim, who also looked back at him, her eyes wide and more than a bit sad as reality of the situation sunk in…She than, heaving a deep sigh, reached up and began the requested process by first removing her Shimmering jewelled Earrings….

So, at this point one would suppose the damsel would have been rescued from her plight by a knight in shining armour. But apparently the best I could do was writing in an Owl… !?
Hopefully I can find us in an nicer neck of the woods for our next Acte?…
or not… depends if the stories tone is interrupted again due to smoggy rain, irritable pub mates, or writers moral block…… or…… look a bloody squirrel !!
But, I’m afraid that upon seeing that this current discourse is getting a bit rude, we should probably toddle off and go with an Alfred Hitchcock like ending to this scene, leaving the outcome up to the reader’s imagination shall we? ….

Hi friends!
Today I just want to send a word / a wish to everyone here who is either directly affected by the Corona Virus through infection, or who knows in the family or friends of those affected.
I would like to think of all those who have been immensely helping people in need for a long time by simply being there for others who are in physical or psychological need.
We all know from personal experience that it is not easy to accept an illness yourself.
Who likes to be sick? At least not me! I prefer to work - day and night, if I have to.
An illness does something to you, it makes some very sensitive, sad and weary, the others distant, aggressive and irritable.
Nobody can accept a disease like this without showing any reaction, because that is actually human nature. Some distance themselves and others seek nearness to others. That too is in the nature of every human being, for that we are all originals.
Long story made short. I just want to get rid of my greetings and wishes here - for all who are sick - of any kind and also for all who care for others and support them in many ways, through being just there for them, or helping to cure them, or just giving a helping hand here and there. There are so many way to help others.
Everything is extremely important, no matter if visible and big, or small and sometimes even invisible! Nobody should underestimate the smallest good deed! Even a loving gaze is a lot - and you can do that very well nowadays, without infecting the other with viruses.
Since the virus has hit many people worldwide - many have not even survived. My sincere condolences to everyone who mourn the loss of loved ones! My thoughts and prayers are with all!
I have a feeling that this global pandemic may eventually bring us closer together and wish the other peace instead of using weapons. We are people on one earth, and it's a beautiful one – still!
Everyone, no matter where, has the right to live! - Let us wish each other good and contribute to peace wherever we stand. At some point the good and the peace will also make circles.
Please, help – each of you - that our earth is and remains our home!
Thank you !!!
I am truly sorry that I have become so silent lately - that will change again someday.
Please forgive me for not showing much here in Flickr. I've had a larger project in work for several weeks already and I cannot "lean out the window" any more, because I also have family problems – of health-related nature. So, please, forgive! I do not forget anybody and will come back soon – promised!
What are you?” I said irritably. “In the Serengeti, Ms. Lane, I would be the cheetah. I’m stronger, smarter, faster, and hungrier than everything else out there. And I don’t apologize to the gazelle when I take it down.
Karen Marie Moning
My big wookie bear.
We had the beach to ourselves for a relaxing walk.
A mixed bag of good, and not so great this week.
Thankful that the DAP collar does help ease his anxiety.
He ate better for the most part. He does seem to be having some gastric distress still.
This disease could really take a hike! Nobody would miss it.
I chose this photo for you Lynda. The photo you saw was unedited. This one is as well, save for brightening up the catch light in his eye.
Just wanted to post a photo of Jeremiah (that I snapped with my cell phone) who is back home after a stay at the hospital. He still has his bandage on from the IV he had.
Like Joshua, Jeremiah has Irritable Bowel Disease. Unfortunately it is something that a lot of Maine Coons have.
Yesterday after throwing up blood we rushed him to the Vet. They kept him for 24 hours in order to give him fluids and several medications. He has not thrown up blood since yesterday....thankfully!!
Because the maker of the prescription food that he was on changed the ingredients we had to switch food. This of course made the IBD flare up and go out of control. The doctor thinks that the new food along with the IBD caused an irritation which in turn caused the bleeding. Hopefully the medication and steroid injection will control the flare up.
He is now conked out in the middle of the living room floor. I don't think he was able to rest very good at the hospital. The doctor said he looked terrified every time they checked on him. Poor little guy!
Thank you so much for your prayers and well wishes. We certainly appreciate it.
The fruit, which looks like a plum, with a greenish tart pulp and a recognizable aroma - this is blackthorn. What is it good for and can it be dangerous to your health?
If we have never seen a blackthorn or tried its fruit, we are familiar with the plant from childhood. In "Uncle Remus Tales" by Joel Harris, Brother Rabbit shows us an example of reverse psychology and asks Brother Fox not to throw him into a blackthorn bush. He falls for the bait of the big-eared manipulator and throws him. That's what Rabbit needs - he hides among the sharp thorns and laughs mockingly. But today we will talk not about fairy tales or manipulators, but about the blackthorn itself. After all, it certainly deserves it.
So, blackthorn is a bush or a small tree with thorny branches, it blooms beautifully and is often used for decorative purposes. In autumn, it is covered with round fruits with a black-blue waxy coating on the skin and green pulp, in which the stone sits tightly. The taste is tart, sourish, and in order for the taste to “open up”, it is better to leave the fruits on the branches until frost. Blackthorn grows in Asia Minor, Western Europe, the Mediterranean, the European part of Russia, the Caucasus and Western Siberia.
Raw blackthorn is rarely eaten. But it is quite suitable for jams, compotes, liqueurs and pastilles. It can also be added to pie filling and used in sauces.
Blackthorn contains a lot of vitamins B, C, E, potassium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus and calcium. The fruits also contain organic acids, tannins, fiber (including pectin), flavonoids, catechins and antioxidants.
First of all, blackthorn is famous for its benefits for the gastrointestinal tract - it stimulates digestion, improves intestinal peristalsis, fights constipation and helps reduce gas formation.
Also, due to the high content of vitamin C, blackthorn is useful for the immune system. In addition to supporting the body's defenses, vitamin C helps to better absorb iron, strengthen blood vessels and stimulate collagen production. B vitamins are necessary for many processes in the body, but they play the greatest role in the functioning of the nervous system. Potassium and magnesium contained in blackthorn have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the cardiovascular system, working to prevent atherosclerosis, heart attacks and strokes. Potassium also helps to remove excess fluid, relieve swelling and reduce blood pressure.
It has been proven that eating blackthorn helps to reduce cholesterol in the blood, normalize the functioning of the kidneys and liver, and blackthorn fruits also have an antibacterial effect. In folk medicine, not only the fruits are used, but also the leaves and even flowers of blackthorn. All benefits and no harm? Unfortunately, it's not that simple.
Blackthorn is contraindicated for people suffering from gastrointestinal diseases. If you have a stomach or duodenal ulcer, gastritis, pancreatitis, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, or just a tendency to diarrhea, you shouldn't eat it. And a healthy person shouldn't get carried away either - due to the abundance of fiber, it will be very easy to get diarrhea.
Blackthorn fruits contain a lot of acids that can damage tooth enamel. Because of the acids, people with inflammatory gum diseases should not eat blackthorn either. In addition, blackthorn can cause allergic reactions. And also, when eating fresh blackthorn, do not try to eat the seeds - they contain the poisonous glycoside amygdalin. It can cause severe poisoning.

More Minifigs! Second from the right is an old minifig I changed a little... As well as added a clue as to why he's so irritable. :D

For a small percentage of teens these normal moods become extremely intense, debilitating and require professional care. They become suicidal when depressed and out-of-control when manic. Eventually, a diagnosis of "mood disorder" - major depression or bipolar disorder - may be made and a combination of medicine and therapy prescribed. Gradually, their whirlwind of emotional changes begins to subside.
It is not as easy for parents of newly diagnosed mood-disordered teens to find inner peace.
Ribwort Plaintains (Plantago lanceolata) and a Scarlet Malachite Beetle too? in Durlston Country Park, Dorset
According to Anglo-Saxon folklore, the plantain was one of the nine sacred herbs that readily grew in a variety of locations. With its assortment of medicinal applications, however, ribwort plantain is no longer considered folklore but is counted as an effective herbal remedy. The herb contains a selection of vitamins and minerals that situate it well as a successful treatment and remedy for a wide range of conditions.
Research suggests that the leaf is an effective anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent. It also has astringent properties. All of these properties combined make plantain one of the most effective herbal remedies for topical treatment of various skin conditions. It is also particularly effective for speeding cell growth and healing wounds, as it contains the chemical allantoin.
Its innate properties make ribwort an effective treatment for an assortment of health conditions. As an astringent, the herb is able to assist in the healing of wounded tissue, haemorrhoids, skin ulcers, and other lesions or sores.
Ribwort is also an effective treatment for a variety of other conditions. Respiratory infection, bronchitis, asthma, and emphysema respond well to treatment with plantain, as it has a demulcent effect. This property also makes it effective for treating urinary tract infections, irritable bowel syndrome, gastritis, diarrhoea, and a host of other conditions.
So; just a weed?
Ottawa. In the Senate lobby they would rather not face each other :-). Nice design though. Also the entire chamber and lobby is red, so it must make them (more) irritable as well.
According to Wikipedia, "spring fever is a term applied to several sets of physical and psychological symptoms associated with the arrival of spring. In general it refers to an increase in energy, vitality and particularly sexual appetite." This, of course, is often confused with cabin fever, defined by the same reliable source as "an idiomatic term...for a claustrophobic reaction that takes place when a person or group is isolated and/or shut in a small space, with nothing to do for an extended period. Cabin fever describes the extreme irritability and restlessness a person may feel in these situations." Apart from the sexual appetite part, which I have no way of gauging accurately, I can assert without doubt that the above-pictured creature is exhibiting every symptom of both maladies and any other theoretically induced by the vernal equinox. In addition to those behaviors already cited, there is almost non-stop meowing, pacing, scratching, looking out the window for weather changes every five minutes, and other owner/partner harrassments adding another dimension to the standard desire for the arrival of a spring delayed far too long...clearly for feline and human alike.
[Thanks to vintage findings for the texture...told you I would use one some day, Karen... ]
Temple kitty!
Against all medical advice, I try to touch all the cats I encounter in the world. Yes, I know that even with the rabies vaccine, a bite from a sick animal would require a lot of unpleasant treatment. Anyway, I had found a comfortable-ish rock to sit on while my husband took photos of the temple gate, and suddenly this handsome cat was in my lap! He purred and snuggled for awhile, and then decided he was done and moved to his own rock and was clearly not happy to receive any more attention. This is totally normal behavior right? Not something that would be described as erratic, irritable, or aggressive, so nothing to worry about.
