May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond.

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! xo💜💜
AN IRISH BLESSING
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
This blessing has always been a favorite of mine, and I thought it went well with this shot of the lovely Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills in Spring. My husband and I recently hiked these foothills near our home as it was nearing sunset. These hills are part of a short peninsular mountain range along the coast of Southern California. They extend approximately 61 miles southeast of the Los Angeles Basin largely along the border between Orange and Riverside counties.
The hills were beautifully green from the recent rains and alive with Wild Mustard, Lupine, Indian Paintbrush and a variety of other lovely wildflowers. There is a pond on the left which is a little hard to see in this shot, but is where we took our daughters when they were young to collect tadpoles in hopes of seeing them turn into frogs! :-)
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
May the rains sweep gentle across your fields,
May the sun warm the land,
May every good seed you have planted bear fruit,
And late summer find you standing in fields of plenty.
Whishing you a blessed and light-filled New Year.
Thank you so much for your support and your friendship!

Reminiscing and this is an earlier shot from my archives and taken in 2006 using a Nikon d70s. I was told it would have won a club competition if the man was looking to the right instead of the left......It got highly commended instead.

But if the clock on the left tower of the Roman Catholic Basilica in St. John's has the correct time and the devil checks the clock on the right tower, you better move it because he'll have a five minute head start on you! :-)
After I took this shot and noticed the clocks on the Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in downtown St. John's, I was reminded of that old Irish blessing. I've also heard it stated as fifteen minutes rather than a half hour. If so, it's doubly important you hustle! :-)
The Basilica Cathedral is an imposing structure on the downtown St. John's skyline. Perhaps only The Rooms (which you can't see in this photo) competes with it for more attention.

Blushing at this end from the joy of reading your latest epistle. Twas cool. Improving toward Perfection is a life time goal of many. Never achieved but trying, right? Some need so much help. If we each do our part, maybe Hades will be a little less full during that long eternal party without air conditioning.
Though at any party on this planet, I do not hang with every body. I stay in the corner, spy a few prior acquaintances or friends, and talk the night away. I am not too much on meeting and making great new friends from a large crowd. In fact, few parties do I attend. Who needs that or them? I am busy partying on Flickr.

Scripture Needs to Be Read Spiritually, Says Preacher
Delivers Final Lenten Meditation for Pope and Curia
ROME, MARCH 14, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Scripture is not only inspired by God, but also "breathes forth God," that is, the Holy Spirit inhabits Scripture and animates it, says the preacher of the Pontifical Household.
Capuchin Father Raniero Cantalamessa said this today in the Lenten meditation he delivered to Benedict XVI and the Roman Curia in the Redemptoris Mater Chapel of the Apostolic Palace.
The sermon was the last in a series of meditations the preacher gave this Lent.
The series, titled "The Word of God Is Living and Effective," reflects the theme of the next Synod of Bishops on the word of God, to be held in October.
Father Cantalamessa spoke about the two meanings implied by 2 Timothy 3:16 "all Scripture is inspired by God."
He explained that the more common meaning is the "passive" one, referring to the way that God directed the writers of the holy texts.
The second meaning, the preacher explained, is "active": Scripture, is not only "inspired by God" but also "spirates God." "After having dictated the Scripture, the Holy Spirit is in a way contained within it; he ceaselessly inhabits it and animates it with his divine breath."
Setting him free
Father Cantalamessa then asked, "How do we approach the Scriptures in a way that they truly 'free' the Spirit that they contain?"
He said that "in Scripture, the Spirit cannot be discovered if not by passing through the letter, that is, through the concrete human vesture that the word of God assumed in the different books and inspired authors. In them the divine meaning cannot be discovered, if not by beginning from the human meaning, the one intended by the human author, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Luke, Paul, etc. It is in this that we find the complete justification of the immense effort in study and research that surrounds the book of Scripture."
But, Father Cantalamessa affirmed, there is a "tendency to stop at the letter, considering the Bible an excellent book, the most excellent of human books, if you will, but only a human book. Unfortunately we run the risk of reducing Scripture to a single dimension."
The Pontifical Household preacher pointed to a sign of hope: "That the demand for a spiritual reading of Scripture and one guided by faith is now beginning to be felt by some eminent exegetes."
The Capuchin urged a furthering of this "spiritual reading."
He explained: "To speak of the 'spiritual' reading of the Bible is not to speak of an edifying, mystical, subjective, or worse still, imaginative, reading, in opposition to the scientific reading, which would be objective. On the contrary, it is the most objective reading that there is because it is based on the Spirit of God, not on the spirit of man.
"Spiritual reading is therefore something that is quite precise and objective; it is the reading that is done under the guidance of, or in the light of, the Holy Spirit that inspired Scripture. It is based on a historical event, namely, the redemptive act of Christ which, with his death and resurrection, accomplishes the plan of salvation and realizes all of the figures and the prophecies, it reveals all of the hidden mysteries and offers the true key for reading the Bible."
Toward all truth
Father Cantalamessa said that this "spiritual reading" of Scripture applies to both the Old and New Testaments.
"Reading the New Testament spiritually means reading it in the light of the Holy Spirit given to the Church at Pentecost to lead the Church to all truth, that is, to the complete understanding and actualization of the Gospel," he said.
The preacher affirmed that spiritual reading both integrates and surpassed scientific reading: "Scientific reading knows only one direction, which is that of history; it explains, in fact, that which comes after in light of that which comes before; it explains the New Testament in the light of the Old which precedes it, and it explains the Church in the light of the New Testament.
"Spiritual reading fully recognizes the validity of this direction of research, but it adds an inverse direction to it. This consists in explaining that which comes before in the light of that which comes after, prophecy in the light of its realization, the Old Testament in the light of the New and the New in the light of the tradition of the Church."
Father Cantalamessa contended, then, that "that which is necessary is not therefore a spiritual reading that would take the place of current scientific exegesis, with a mechanical return to the exegesis of the Fathers; it is rather a new spiritual reading corresponding to the enormous progress recorded by the study of 'letter.' It is a reading, in sum, that has the breath and faith of the Fathers and, at the same time, the consistency and seriousness of current biblical science.
The Pontifical Household preacher ended his reflection with a word of hope regarding a return to a spiritual reading like that of the Church fathers.
The Capuchin said "from the four winds the Spirit has begun unexpectedly to blow again" and we "witness the reappearance of the spiritual reading of the Bible and this too is a fruit -- one of the more exquisite -- of the Spirit."
"Participating in Bible and prayer groups, I am stupefied in hearing, at times, reflections on God's word that are analogous to those offered by Origen, Augustine or Gregory the Great in their time, even if it is in a more simple language," he said. "Let us conclude with a prayer that I once heard a woman pray after she was read the episode in which Elijah, ascending up to heaven, leaves Elisha two-thirds of his spirit.
"It is an example of spiritual reading in the sense I have just explained: 'Thank you, Jesus, that ascending to heaven, you do not only leave us two-thirds of your Spirit, but all of your Spirit! Thank you that you did not give your Spirit to just one disciple, but to all men!'"

Pope: Augustine Is Model of Humility
Says His Conversion Lasted Until He Died
VATICAN CITY, FEB. 26, 2008 (Zenit.org).- In his final reflection on St. Augustine, Benedict XVI spoke of the saint's interior conversion, calling it "one of the greatest" in Christian history.
The Pope affirmed this today during the general audience given in Paul VI Hall. He recalled how his trip last year to pay homage to the mortal remains of Augustine was meant to "demonstrate the admiration and reverence of the entire Catholic Church toward St. Augustine, and my own personal devotion and recognition of a figure with whom I feel I have close ties to due to the part he has played in my theological life, in my life as a priest and a pastor."
Recalling Augustine's own retelling of his conversion in the "Confessions," the Holy Father said that the process is best "described as a journey that remains a true example for each one of us." It was a journey that "continued with humility until the end of his life."
"We can state that all the stages of his life -- and we can easily distinguish three phases -- together make up a single long conversion," the Pontiff explained.
Truth seeking
Benedict XVI characterized the first phase as a "gradual approach to Christianity," since Augustine was a "passionate seeker of the truth."
He explained: "Philosophy, and especially Platonic philosophy, led him closer to Christ by revealing to him the existence of the Logos, or creative reason. The books of the philosophers showed him the existence of 'reason' from which the whole world is derived, but did not tell him how to reach this Logos, which seemed so inaccessible.
"It was only through reading the letters of St. Paul, in the faith of the Catholic Church, that he came to a fuller understanding. […] His eyes fell on the passage of the Letter to the Romans, in which the apostle urges the abandonment of the pleasures of the flesh in favor of Christ. He understood that those words were specifically meant for him. They came from God, through the Apostle, and showed him what he had to do in that moment."
Augustine thus began to seek God, the Pope explained, "the great and inaccessible."
"His faith in Christ made him understand that God, seemingly so distant, was in truth not distant at all. In fact he has come near us, becoming one of us," the Holy Father said. "In this sense his faith in Christ allowed Augustine to accomplish his long search for truth. Only a God who made himself 'touchable,' one of us, was a God to whom one could pray, for whom and with whom one could live."
Mercy
Benedict XVI said a last step, or "third conversion" in the journey, "led [Augustine] to ask God for forgiveness every day of his life."
The Pope explained: "At first he thought that once christened, in a life in communion with Christ, in the sacraments, and in the celebration of the Eucharist, he would attain a life as proposed in the Sermon on the Mount, which is one of perfection given through baptism and confirmed in the Eucharist.
"In the latter period of his life he understood that what he had said in his first homilies on the Sermon on the Mount -- that we as Christians permanently live this ideal life -- was a mistake. Only Christ himself realizes truly and completely the Sermon on the Mount. We always need to be cleansed by Christ, who washes our feet, and be renewed by him.
"We need a permanent conversion. Up to the end we need to demonstrate a humility that acknowledges that we are sinners on a journey, until the Lord gives us his hand and leads us to eternal life. It is with this attitude of humility that Augustine lived out his final days until his death."
A model
The Holy Father said that Augustine, once "converted to Christ, who is truth and love," became a model for every human being, "for all of us in search of God."
"Today, as then," the Pontiff said, "mankind needs to know and to live this fundamental reality: God is love and meeting him is the only answer to the fears of the human heart.
"In a beautiful text St. Augustine defines prayer as an expression of desire, and affirms that God answers by moving our hearts closer to him. For our part we should purify our desires and our hopes in order to receive God's gentleness."
"In fact," the Holy Father concluded, "this alone -- opening ourselves up to others -- can save us."

In 2006, the local electorate blessed Dallas County, Texas with a new District Attorney (DA) who has been exemplifying extremely different philosophies like: “Society wins when justice is done, even if the Government fails to convict and lengthy imprison in most cases”.
What leadership qualities resulted in Texas’ old Dallas County DA’s Office causing Dallas County to be the “Send Innocent People to Prison Capital of the USA”. Is it worth studying those procedures, goals, attitudes, techniques to encourage or discourage their continued use else where?
Question: Is the criminal justice system dysfunctional and merely about the sneaker attorney winning?
Question: How do we start drastically altering such a screwed up trophy system? Does innocents being imprisoned, embarrass no one anymore? Why? Because there is so much of it going on?

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
Reflections on Holy Scripture at the Procession of Palms:
Matthew 21:1-11
At the Mass:
Isaiah 50:4-7
Responsorial Psalm:
Psalm 22:8-9, 17-18, 19-20, 23-24
Reading II:
Philippians 2:6-11
The Gospel:
Matthew 26:14—27:66 or 27:11-54
Today we begin the most sacred week of the year—Holy Week.
It all begins with the Lord's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, seated astride a donkey, with the crowd shouting "Hosanna!" and it ends with the most astounding event in history, the God-man Jesus, rising from a borrowed tomb. He rises with the light shining from the wounds of His horrible passion and death.
As our Savior rode toward His great confrontation with the powers of evil, the words of today's first reading were very possibly in His mind:
I have set my face like flint, knowing that I will not be put to shame.
(Isaiah 50:7)
No, the shame is ours that our sins and those of the millions before us have brought Him to this hour. This is the week for us to bow our heads and hearts in sorrow and compassion as we put aside our daily distractions and focus on the events of the dying and rising of our loving Redeemer. We need to reflect prayerfully on the ancient Christian hymn that forms our second reading for this Mass:
He emptied himself, taking the form of a slave . . .
he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death,
even death on a cross. (see Philippians 2:7-8)
No wonder every knee must bow at the mention of His name! The early Church fought long and hard to establish the doctrine for all time that it was both God and man that took up that cross for our redemption.
So what is our cross?
It's the cross of responsibilities, the cross of sickness, the cross of loneliness and failure. We gain so much strength to carry those crosses when we take time this week to journey with Jesus to Calvary.
The Church is a master of drama in the liturgies of this week. Through the use of the celebrant and two readers for the Passion this week, and in the voices of the congregation, we all become part of the action. Most of us feel embarrassed to cry "Crucify Him" with the palm branches still in our hands. We feel like hypocrites. Yet it was our sins which brought Him to Calvary.
The Passion Narrative of Matthew is a reminder of the ugliness of sin—Christ's betrayal by Judas, the denial of Peter, the hearings before Caiaphas and Pilate—the awful scourging by the Roman soldiers, the thorny crown jammed upon His weary head, the whip cutting slashes into His flesh, the blood running down his shoulders and back, the cursing by the crowd, the nails tearing through His hands, the thud of the cross into the ground. As He hangs on the Cross, He cries, "I thirst!" How that cry echoes down the centuries as a reminder of His search for our love!
The shock of Palm Sunday's liturgy compresses nearly two thousand years into this present moment. We have no place to hide.
We need to suspend all other activities, quiet our busy-ness, and focus on the events of this week—the local penance services, the Stations of the Cross, the Thursday night adoration and the Good Friday veneration of the Cross.
All this will prepare us for the coming out of darkness into the new fire, the new light, the new saving water of the Easter Vigil—and the Resurrection.

FIELDS OF GOLD - STING
DO YOU REMEMBER
Do you remember when you were a squaddie
the ballroom dancing lessons that we had
we would twirl around the room so fast
like swirling dervishes among the lads
I would step on your feet; trip over your heels
you would laugh at me fit to burst
oh, Fergus MacDonald where are you now
that I've mastered and got over the worst
you went one way and I went another
I had to finish my education
somebody told me you went to war
and my heart sank at this revelation
as it struck me to my inner core
into the unknown we stepped so often
sharing; multiplying our confidences
our eyes met and the world was softened
how I wish that you were dancing with me now
but mine was to be a different dance
I see your hair so red and mine so blonde
in my mind's eye we stood a good chance
I still think of you when the Harvest moon
is like a big orange ball in the sky
do you remember me like I remember you
with a smile and a whispered goodbye
I still have foolish notions and schoolgirl dreams
big ideas and ridiculous fancies
I used to make you laugh until you nearly cried
with my endless schemes, plans and romances
do you remember the book you loaned to me
I still have it waiting for you
Tess of the D'Urbervilles, do you remember now
I hope I can return it to the boy I once knew
Would I know you now if I saw you in the street
you were just a young lad last I saw you
but surely I'd know you from anyone if you opened your eyes
for they reflected my own eyes of blue
I still think of you on a cold Winter's night
in front of the fire; my ears tuned to the news
but I fear you are lost in the trenches somehow
with your eyes opened with all that you knew
a dug-out somewhere in no-man's land
or an unmarked grave; my heart-felt clenches
why do they call it friendly fire
there's nothing friendly when someone's heart wrenches
how little do I know even now of the ways of men
those who wage war and why
politics seems everywhere in all the things that we do
may I remain innocent until the day that I die
wherever you are and whoever you have become
know I think fondly of you dear Fergus
and if ever our paths were to cross again
I believe that we would complete the circuit
the bonds we made during those teenage years
so strong they remain unbroken
memories of the plans we had
and all the words so softly spoken
sometimes they come to me here on the wind
quietly and indistinct
or I may see your face in a crowded room
disappearing as I overthink
and that is me dear Fergus, all over
I feel; I see; I think too much
as rarefied as a four leafed clover
and like a game of double dutch
I trip over the rope, like I trip over my tongue
clumsy as ever my dear
still I think of you and wish you well
while I still yearn for those teenage years.

"For some time I have thought of writing, but I have hesitated until now, for truly, I feared to expose myself to the criticism of men... for as it is said, 'wisdom shall be recognized in speech, and in understanding, and in knowledge and in the learning of truth.' St Patrick born c. 387 – died 17 March, 493
An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

~ Irish blessing.
Looking up again. There were 2/3 bees happily munching on this plant... I tried to capture them but the P&S just wasn't quick or close enough.
Nice to see it's warm enough for them though!
“May you always walk in sunshine. May you never want for more. May Irish angels rest their wings right beside your door.”

Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!*
* Irish blessing
May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond ~ Irish blessing
May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow.
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
“Summer ends,
and Autumn comes,
and he who would have it otherwise
would have high tide always
and a full moon every night.”
~ Hal Borland ~
"May you have warm words on a cold evening,
a full moon on a dark night
and a smooth road all the way to your door.”

Here's to sunrises, sunsets and howling at some September moons!
To all my friends, I wish you all the most wonderful day today! This verse from St. Patrick's breastplate is one not thought of much on a day that has become symbolic of Irish pride and partying, but this was how the man the day was named for thought:
From Saint Patrick's Breastplate
Christ be with me
Christ before me
Christ behind me
Christ in me
Christ beneath me
Christ above me
Christ on my right
Christ on my left
Christ where I lie
Christ where I sit
Christ where I arise
Christ in the heart of every man
who thinks of me
Christ in the mouth of every man
who speaks of me
Christ in every eye that sees me
Christ in every ear that hears me
Salvation is of the Lord.
And my prayer for you:
An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

"May your joys be as bright as the morning,
and your sorrows merely be shadows
that fade in the sunlight of love.
May you have enough happiness to keep you sweet,
enough trials to keep you strong,
enough sorrow to keep you human,
enough hope to keep you happy,
enough failure to keep you humble,
enough success to keep you eager,
enough friends to give you comfort,
enough faith and courage in yourself to banish sadness,
enough wealth to meet your needs and one thing more;
enough determination to make each day a more wonderful day than the one before."
— Irish Blessing —
“I feel no need for any other faith than my faith in the kindness of human beings.
I am so absorbed in the wonder of earth and the life upon it
that I cannot think of heaven and angels.”
~ Pearl S. Buck ~
“May you always walk in sunshine.
May you never want for more.
May Irish angels rest their wings
right beside your door.”
