Members of the production of Stephen Sondheim's Saturday Night, currently playing at London's Arts Theatre, talked to Sean and performed numbers from the musical. Originally written in 1954 when Sondheim was just 24, Saturday Night would have been the composer's first Broadway musical but was scrapped when finances for it ran out. Soprano Katherine Manley and baritone Dawid Kimberg, with Christian Curnyn on harpsichord and director Netia Jones performed live in the studio. Together, they make up Transition Company, which combines music and opera performance with new media, video and film. I shot this in the mid 70s as a 35mm black and white. I Found this copy as a high contrast 4x5 made with my enlarger. I have to find the original negative, but thought this was a good treatment using what I have at hand.
