24/8-02/9 UWC Adriatic intro week 2013

Step away from your sewing machine and learn the joy of traditional hand work. Not only is it small, portable and relaxing, but often easier to be accurate. You will learn the basics of piecing by hand to create a Sawtooth Star block. This class will also cover hand quilting techniques to give you the experience you need to tackle larger projects. Your final patchwork block will be finished into a cushion

with a zipper closure.

Hanover’s Deputy Fire Chief, Michael Hinsley, talks with the “Fireflies” group at today’s Intro to Engineering final project demos. Firefighters risk severe steam burns to their hands if their gloves are not completely dry from their last activity—even if they seem dry to the touch. Team “Fireflies” designed a glove dryer equipped with a more accurate humidity sensor system to make sure firefighters' gloves are safe to use. “This could be good,” said Hinsley, after chatting with the group.
