A neighbor bought my mom some very pretty pillow cases a couple of months ago.

Intricate designs like these tend to cost more than your average IKEA pattern, but our neighbor bought these from Pakistan, where embroidered materials are even more beautiful AND dirt cheap.

I thought it was a rather neat idea, gifting pillow cases.

Downward view of a spiral staircase with ornate wrought-iron railings and polished wooden handrails. The stone steps are aged, and the floors feature classic, geometric patterned tiles. The perspective highlights the staircase's intricate design as it spirals downwards.

A shining example of the Moorish civilization of the 13th and 14th century, the Alhambra in Granada, Spain, a popular tourist destination, highlights the intricate designs in their art as well as outstanding gardens and architectural design.

It’s been a while since I have done a set of interpretations of a single capture. This set is based on an image of one of the ornate chandeliers and ceilings in the Brighton Royal Pavilion. The Pavilion was built as a summer pleasure palace for George IV at the turn of the 18th century. It’s a marvellous, fantastical place. The image was taken last November.

There are four images in the set. I’ll link to the in-camera original in a comment as well so that you can see where we started.

V1 - This is a ‘proper’ edit using Capture One and Affinity Photo. This is the basis for the other three versions.

V2 - This version uses Nik Color Efex, which uses all sorts of compounded effects, including a bi-colour filter.

V3 - This version uses Nik Analog Efex to give a double image effect with two copies of the basic shot. The second copy is scaled and zoom blurred a little.

V4 - This version is a play with Topaz Studio 2 using the remix filter to change the colours. I’ll put this one in for Sliders Sunday this week.

I find straight up central chandelier shots interesting. I guess it’s the symmetry and abstraction. This picture reminds me of a spaceship, which is often how my little bear’s brain interprets symmetric abstracts. Perhaps I should have called it Rama 37 or somesuch. The Pavilion has lots of good painted ceilings and chandeliers so I was in a personal playground.

Anyway, part of the fun with these sets is letting you choose your favourite. It’s always interesting how people differ, though often the most popular is the plain edit (a humbling reminder of how easily I waste my time for no purpose, lol).

Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the set. Happy Sliders Sunday :)

In addition to the practical function of projecting water away from a building, gargoyles were also intended to symbolise 'guardianship' of the building and to ward off evil spirits. Their open mouths were symbolic of them devouring giants.

The Gothic spires of Paisley Abbey date back to the 12th century - but there’s one gargoyle that stands out from the rest. The original gargoyles stood guard over the church for centuries, but by 1991, when a remodelling took place, many of the 12 medieval creatures had crumbled.

Alan Birss, who sadly passed away in 1922, who was the long-service minister of Paisley Abbey (32 years), is quoted to have said that a stonemason from an Edinburgh firm was contracted to create the new gargoyles. "I think it was a stonemason having a bit of fun," he said. "Perhaps the film was fairly new when they were carving this and if he was thinking of an alien perhaps the alien from the film was his idea of an alien.

Another solitary plate with a dual purpose in mind. First, it's large enough to stand in as a dessert tray, and secondly, the pattern is stunning and will join a myriad of other design ideas for piped royal icing 'stringwork' on fondant cupcakes, cookies or a cake border some day.

They just don't make utensils like they use too.

Ancient Roman floor mosaic (mosaico pavimentale a cassettoni con nike) features a figure of goddess Nike holding a red object and a staff, set against a diamond-shaped frame with intricate designs. The textured red wall givies a vivid backdrop. This example of the ancient Rome floor mosaic is on display at the Roman National Museum (Museo nazionale romano) in Rome, Italy.

Perched harmoniously on the same floor as the majestic Evangelion statue, these two gachapon figures – a stone-textured rabbit adorned with bright yellow accents and a glossy, chestnut-hued squirrel – offer a delightful contrast. Small in stature but rich in character, these gachapon treasures embody the playful spirit of collectible toys. The rabbit's intricate design and the squirrel's polished finish suggest a careful attention to detail, making them endearing companions to each other and charming additions to the space, merging the playful world of gachapon with the awe-inspiring realm of anime.

This stunning bracelet features Sapphire and crystal teardrop beads, crystal dagger beads, three brilliant blue square foil beads, and a silver rectangular toggle clasp.

The beads really capture the light and add a dimension of color at every twist and turn of the wrist.

Bracelet measures approximately 6 1/2 inches when relaxed, or stretches to 7 1/2 inches plus clasp.
