This afternoon, news of an issue with the sewer system on the west side of Sioux Falls spread like wildfire. I snapped this photo of Ben Dunsmoor (Keloland News) conducting an interview at the site where crews were working to resolve the issue.
A problem with a portion of the sewer system near the Penitentiary caused nearly 1,000,000 gallons of waste to back up. If you're curious, visit the following link for more details:

Libraries play a role in preserving our national story as a multicultural society. In 2024 Yarra Plenty Regional Library collected a range of untold stories unique to the experience of migration and the Australian story. Twelve participants shared their stories of migration, their life in Australia and how they feel about being Australian. We were also interested in an object that they still treasured from their Homeland. Interviewer and post production support work by Liz Pidgeon, Local and Family History Librarian. Filming, editing and post production by Media Masterworks Productions and photography by volunteer members of the Diamond Valley Photographic Society based in Greensborough. Interviews took place at Diamond Valley, Thomastown and Watsonia libraries in April and December 2024. This collection includes a selection of the photographs taken, including those that were used as part of the exhibition which took place at Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub 17 March-6 April 2025. YPRL gratefully acknowledges the Local History Grants Program and Public Record Office Victoria, supported by the Victorian Government through the Community Support Fund.
Lotta is from Stockholm Sweden, she travelled to Australian as a tourist in Australia in 1987 and met her husband. After some time she decided to stay and worked with her husband for a time. They raised their family in Macleod and then Diamond Creek. Lotta quilts cot blankets for the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. Lotta's treasured objects are items that remind her of precious strong traditons and customs of her Homeland including the display of their flag. The traditonal handpainted Dali horse, the maypole is decorated as part of the mid summer festival after the hay has been cut and stored before winter. St Lucia Day is celebrated on 13 December. She brings light to this winter festival. "13 December is very dark in Sweden so we bring a lot of candles into our traditon to light it up for us".
