Students Interviewing Mr & Mrs Ho, Wing Wo Pharmacy (Magic Carpet: Re-envisioning Community Space in Sai Ying Pun 妙想氈開西營盤)
Libraries play a role in preserving our national story as a multicultural society. In 2024 Yarra Plenty Regional Library collected a range of untold stories unique to the experience of migration and the Australian story. Twelve participants shared their stories of migration, their life in Australia and how they feel about being Australian. We were also interested in an object that they still treasured from their Homeland. Interviewer and post production support work by Liz Pidgeon, Local and Family History Librarian. Filming, editing and post production by Media Masterworks Productions and photography by volunteer members of the Diamond Valley Photographic Society based in Greensborough. Interviews took place at Diamond Valley, Thomastown and Watsonia libraries in April and December 2024. This collection includes a selection of the photographs taken, including those that were used as part of the exhibition which took place at Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub 17 March-6 April 2025. YPRL gratefully acknowledges the Local History Grants Program and Public Record Office Victoria, supported by the Victorian Government through the Community Support Fund.
Lotta is from Stockholm Sweden, she travelled to Australian as a tourist in Australia in 1987 and met her husband. After some time she decided to stay and worked with her husband for a time. They raised their family in Macleod and then Diamond Creek. Lotta quilts cot blankets for the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. Lotta's treasured objects are items that remind her of precious strong traditons and customs of her Homeland including the display of their flag. The traditonal handpainted Dali horse, the maypole is decorated as part of the mid summer festival after the hay has been cut and stored before winter. St Lucia Day is celebrated on 13 December. She brings light to this winter festival. "13 December is very dark in Sweden so we bring a lot of candles into our traditon to light it up for us".

interview w/ Doug in Skirt Magazine, September 2009 issue:
Doug is both sound engineer and producer, and he’s clear about the difference. “Budget and intent,” he said. “Some people don’t want or need to be produced.” The name of his studio, Electromagnetic Radiation Recorders, is what Doug describes as a bolt-out-of-the-blue-kinda-thing. “I just liked the Jetsons-space-aged sound of it,” he said. The left-handed bassist has produced the likes of Codeseven and the Avett Brothers, and more recently, local country band Possum Jenkins, in addition to a young feller out of Nashville, Michael Ford Jr., whose album débuted the end of August. His favorite part of the job: “When a band is making a record, it’s a creative peak moment for them and the fact that I’m collaborating with them at that peak moment – it’s like the best possible part of dating a lot of different people. I’ve practically dated every band in town. It’s better than being a groupie – I’m official.”
