Immunisation, de-worming, Vitamin A supplementation and growth monitoring - just a few of the simple health interventions that save lives. UNICEF is supporting the Department of Health to improve the delivery of quality basic health services at community level, to reduce deaths from prevenatble causes and ensure that children grow up healthy and strong.
Music and Dance

Grooved to a DJ set by Simone DuJour, and was on the look-out for surprise dance “happenings” from Art of Dance and Twin Cities Ballet.

Kept our eyes open for all kinds of artful interventions, including Amanda Lovelee’s Milkweed Cart, Chicks-on-Sticks, sPARKit mobile lab, a pop-up game area, and more!
Art-making: Bug Bonanza & Terrific Trees
11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Made a variety of beautiful or beastly bugs, or add to an artful arbor installation.
Demonstration: Bee Squad
11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Saw the University of Minnesota Bee Squad in action, as they performed a honey extraction from the MIA’s very own rooftop hives. Chatted with bee experts, viewed the observation hive, and sampled some Rooftop Gold honey.
Yoga
11:30 a.m., 12:30, 2 & 3 p.m.
Struck poses inspired by artworks in and around the museum, with instructor Anna Vazquez.
Community Tables
Noon–4 p.m.
Got to know representatives from the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board, Whittier Alliance, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and Walker Art Center.
Rain Garden Tours
1:30 and 2:30 pm.
Joined Ken Krenz from the MIA’s Green Team for a tour of the MIA’s fabulous rain garden – another earth-friendly initiative at the MIA!

Explored the MIA inside and out, from our galleries to our green spaces.

Met some very talented Finnish musicians, then joined in the musical fun! This program was part of FinnFest USA 2014.
Gallery Conversation: Nurturing Nature

Chatted with a Finnish city planner Leo Kosonen, and “Finland: Designed Environments” curator Jennifer Komar-Olivarez about how modern living and nature come together. This program was part of FinnFest USA 2014.
Preschool Tour: Dirt
11:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.
Dug into a tour that’s all about dirt, designed just for little ones. This tour explored artist-in-residence Monica Haller’s installation, “Beneath the Ground.”
