she was walking. a simple act, a straight line from one point to another. then, the wall spoke. a painted man, kicking at the sun with joyful abandon. she paused, her head turned, the forward motion interrupted by a question. art is a question asked of a passerby. sometimes, they stop to consider an answer. then, the walking continues.
One second you are just a bug hanging out with the fam in a bark crevasse enjoying your day…then BAM! You and yours are hit with a long, sticky tongue that instantly breaks your grip on your home and whips you towards a creature with a large black beak and glowing red eyes…
Reason 733 that I thank God that I am not a bug!

I interrupted this female Pileated Woodpecker having her breakfast outside our front window this morning.
To get an idea of the size of this large woodpecker species, the measured distance from the root at the base of the stump to the hole she had made is a full 12", making her about 14" in total length.

Tofu sat under one of the Acers and was about to keep his fluffy white fur clean when something interrupted him, most likely a BIRD. Dry moments in which he could enjoy his garden have been rare today, though. After weeks of sunny and summery hot weather it's suddenly beginning to feel autumnal.
I got a disturbing message from Mother Nature today, your spring has been put on hold, please wait for the next available warm day....
After having only about an inch of snow all winter, we may get some more tonight, almost a month after this was taken....
