CLARK AIR BASE, Republic of the Philippines – Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew Dodendorf pretends to be a heat casuality during a saftey class for Balikatan at Clark Air Base May 11, 2014. Rescue and firefighting Marines and the Philippine Air Force with the Base Operation Squadron learn together about heat casualties and how to prevent or deal them. Balikatan, in its 30th iteration, is an annual bilateral exercise between the U.S. and the Republic of the Philippines and aims at building the nations interoperability during joint planning, contingency, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. Throughtout Balikatan the conditions have stayed at black flag, so it is important to stay hydrated to avoid becoming a heat casuality. The workshop was co-hosted by the Papua New Guinea Defense Force (PNGDF) command, control, communications, and computers/cyber division and USPACOM. The infantrymen were on their way to the field for nine days to conduct joint training exercises with Estonian soldiers, as well as showcase their skills and allow Estonian officers and non-commissioned officers to experience firing a M1A2 SEP V2. These activities are part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Operation Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
