Themes in a shadowbox are important. Not just any theme, but a subject that can arrest the eye and tell a story while delivering a pleasing effect to the mind. To this end, my collectors are serious about their subjects and want concepts that address a certain period in time (with accuracy).
For me, it becomes a task to combine a scene in painterly fashion; but overall, while experimenting with the positioning of items within the 'box', I find ways to deliver the message that goes beyond the original idea or natural thought.
