Saw this magnificent grey wolf residing at the time I took this photo at the Alaskan Wildlife Conversation Center, in Alaska obvs. It's the closest I've been to a wolf in the wild and even from a distance they looked proud and intelligent and amazing.

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research and quality animal care.

I don't want to alarm you, but some people close to me say that once a month, on the full moon, I look a bit like this. (That's the Halloween scary bit for those in parts of the world that celebrate it ;)

If you decide to travel along this highway into the bowels of the Universe, carry enough fuel to cover the billions of light years ahead of you. You won't find a place to refuel. When you have travelled this distance without finding anything, not even a little bit of intelligent life and you reach the far reaches of the Universe... don't be scared... there's nothing there, either. Only the "nothing". Or since everything is cyclical, perhaps you have returned to the place where you started, full of wisdom from your long trip. It's probably better to look for intelligent life on Earth, but it's also very likely that you'll have a hard time finding it. Don't worry about not understanding the Universe or the reason for its existence... you're not Einstein, but one day you'll understand that... The Universe is wounded, but it still has infinity ahead of it. It still has you and me. Merry Christmas to all and to the infinite Universe that is within you.

Gregory Alan Isakov - The Universe

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts VI–IX

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond", was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd. He was also known as "The Crazy Diamond Syd". Barrett was a very creative musician and is considered one of the rock icons, with a strong influence on many artists, very especially to David Bowie. Syd Barrett is a key piece to understand the evolution of rock in the 70s.. Excessive drug use, especially LSD, caused him serious mental health problems. Syd Barrett died in 2006 at the age of 60. Always shine diamond.

Blur - The Universal

The Universal is a science fiction song written as a tribute to two films by film director Stanley Kubrick. In the video, the Blur members wear outfits similar to Alex and his gang of thugs, the protagonists of the movie "A Clockwork Orange." The image used for the cover of the single alluded to what is possibly Kubrick's best film: "2001: To Space Odyssey."

The Speckled Hummingbird (Adelomyia melanogenys) is a fascinating species native to the Andean cloud forests. This photograph was taken at La Minga Ecolodge, near Cali, Colombia, a location renowned for its rich biodiversity and stunning wildlife. Captured in the soft afternoon light, the hummingbird is perched gracefully on a stem of Stachytarpheta flowers, its speckled plumage and subtle brown tones creating a natural harmony with the surrounding greenery. The vibrant purple flowers provide a striking contrast, drawing attention to the intricate details of the scene.

Using my Canon R5 with an RF 100-500mm lens at 500mm, I shot this image at f/6.7 with ISO 800 in Program mode, letting the intelligent metering select a shutter speed of 1/180 second. This setup allowed me to balance the available light while freezing the hummingbird’s still pose in sharp detail. The shallow depth of field isolates the subject from the soft, blurred background, emphasizing its delicate features. This fleeting moment reflects the unpredictability and rewards of wildlife photography, showcasing the beauty of the natural world and the importance of preserving it for future generations.

Intelligent Eyes - A subadult Brown Bear peers at me while taking a break from foraging on grasses.

I've just returned from a 3 month trip to Haines, in Southeast Alaska and finally got to processing some files. Observing and photographing this wild bear was the highlight of the trip. This individual is likely a 2 year old female bear and was relatively small, but plump, probably weighing in between 175-200 lbs.

Brown Bears are distinguished from Black Bears not by color, but by their more rounded ears, longer claws, dorsal hump and steeper brow. This particular individual had a really well proportioned snout and nice rounded ears and was the most beautiful Brown Bear I observed during the trip.

The term 'Grizzly' is a colloquial North American term that refers to Brown Bears, often more specifically Brown Bears found in interior regions such as Yellowstone National Park where bears do not have access to coastal resources such as salmon.

Thanks to Bill McRoberts and Cheryl McRoberts for being kind enough to take me out and make this image possible.

L’intelletto femminile.

The Bornean orangutan is a species of orangutan endemic to the island of Borneo. It belongs to the only genus of great apes native to Asia. Like the other great apes, orangutans are highly intelligent, displaying tool use and distinct cultural patterns in the wild. The Bornean orangutan is a critically endangered species, with deforestation, palm oil plantations, and hunting posing a serious threat to its continued existence.

Portrait of Rudy, the Congo African Grey Parrot at Bloedel Conservatory of QE Park in Vancouver, BC Canada.

African Greys are considered to be among the most intelligent of all birds, ranking alongside dolphins, and chimpanzees for their ability to associate human word with meanings, shapes and colors.

The grey parrot is a medium-sized, predominantly grey, black-billed parrot. Its typical weight is 400 g (0.88 lb), with an approximate length of 33 cm (13 in), and a wingspan of 46–52 cm (18–20 in). It has darker grey than its body over the head and both wings. The head and body feathers have slight white edges. The tail feathers are red.

Grey parrots may live for 40–60 years in captivity, although their mean lifespan in the wild appears to be shorter — approximately 23 years.

The species is common in captivity and regularly kept by humans as a companion parrot, prized for its ability to mimic human speech, which makes it one of the most popular avian pets. An escaped pet in Japan was returned to his owner after repeating the owner's name and address.

They are notorious for mimicking noises heard in their environment and using them tirelessly. They are highly intelligent birds, needing extensive behavioral and social enrichment as well as extensive attention in captivity or else they may become distressed. Feather plucking is a common symptom seen among such distressed grey parrots. They also may be prone to behavioural problems due to their sensitive nature. Social isolation hastens stress and aging. Their ability to reproduce noises has led to them exercising their vocal abilities in front of humans.

In the early years of the 21st century artificial intelligence spread from silicon to wood. One of the first set of newly intelligent wooden beings was Karl and Karla Blockbody. They were the main influence that persuaded meat people to accept wooden people. Peace!

Intelligent people provide ideas from their cloisters and barely put them into practice. Powerful people write the pages of history, shaping and re-shaping it through coarse-grain, monochromatic brushes. The latter use the former, depend on them. The former can't help being used, being depended on. And that, or a variation of it, is the news, anytime, anyplace, anywhere.

Ornithologists may argue about who takes the title for the smartest bird around. The Caledonian Crow is certainly up there, along with corvid cousins such as Ravens. And so, for sure, is the the African Grey Parrot, here proving that genius and beauty can sometimes go together.

There’s a lot going on upstairs and we’re not just talking ‘smart’. This building means business when it comes to putting on a show. Observe in awe with everyone else on the street. It really is a wonder.
