this was an unexpected find: seems like Bryan Gardiner of wired steals images. he used my image without asking or purchasing a license. I'm quite shocked to see such a large publication completely ignore the license ("All rights reserved").
I sent them an email but if they don't act pronto, they'll get a nastygram and bill.
Took the kids to see this exhibition last week. It really was excellent. I recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time though. We found that three hours flew past and it cost about £25 for the three of us. Better to go in the morning and make a day of it. There is so much to do and see. It's a pity they don't seem to do a year long pass. I'd happily pay for it. Needless to say my kids and this big kid loved it and we might even try and go back this weekend as they're offering workshops with some of Aardman's animators.
I particularly enjoyed the jam splatting workshop and the plasticine forest. Good to se the Wallace and Gromit sets. Buddding stop frame animators will be interested to see the scale and intricate level of detail in the set designs. Great contraptions and interesting information on intellectual property issues too.

I took this photo just off State Street last year right before the election. Now it seems that I may have violated the intellectual property rights of the artist who allegedly infringed on the Associated Press intellectual property rights to a photograph that appears to have been taken by a photographer who never actually signed the rights over to them. Should I be worried?
Obviously this is absurd. It's also only a slight exaggeration of the issues raised by the lawsuit and countersuit between Associated press and artist Shepard Fairey. AP alleges that Fairey infringed on their copyrighted photo of Barack Obama, taken by photographer Mannie Garcia. Fairey countersued, claiming "fair use" rights to the image he used as a starting point for his famous Obama poster.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Counterfeit goods expert Speaks to Vancouver business community
The etched printing on those little blue "Viagra" pills looked a little too well defined. That is because-- after analysis-- those pills were counterfeit, made of cement, a representative of the British Columbia Pharmacy Association told counterfeit expert Rob Calia.
Calia, who leads the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's anti-counterfeiting and piracy team, and the Chamber's counterfeiting and piracy business and consumer education division, was in Vancouver January 27 telling the local business community how increasingly-aggressive counterfeiters are responsible for robbing legitimate businesses of intellectual property and sales of legitimate goods totaling $250 billion. Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! - www.fightforthefuture.org/pipa
PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting "creativity". The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites-- they just have to convince a judge that the site is "dedicated to copyright infringement."
The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that's for a fix that won't work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.

today was World Intellectual Property Day... I had no idea until I read about it on my friend Matt's blog. Matt and I went to college together. I think we met through the Heursitic Squelch. Anywho, now he's a fancy lawyer with a fancy lawyering blog!
Anywho, this post today reminded me that I wanted to take a moment to recommend a visit to his blog. Aside from the Law, it features Matt's musings on the show LOST -- although he has missed two consecutive Lost discussions (i.e., our single-line email exchanges during the show) -- as well as interesting tales of odd things that came out of a hot dog he ate once and the subsequent gift of beef that was bestowed upon him by the hotdog company, and many other subjects of mid to high-level entertainment value.

Proprietary origami is the old sow that eats her own farrow.
That line is cheerfully stolen from James Joyce -- farrow being an old way of saying piglets.
The two-piece pig was created by Akira Yoshizawa or Adolfo Cerceda, depending on your point-of-view, and is found in Harbin's Secrets of Origami. The piglets are an adaptation of a traditional model by Jack Skillman, diagrammed in Randeltt's Best of Origami. (Yes, yes, I own both books. Came by them honest, too.)
Just a call to sanity and a reminder that the best way to respect and support the work of professional origami artists is to not emulate them. If you're an amateur origami artist, do you really need to control your work in all places and in all times? Creative Commons licensing is a better alternative to the superstition-laden copyright and will do much more to promote the art than trolling eBay for ebooks. Stop trying to nail Jell-O™ to the wall and join the party -- it isn't origami till you share it.

Took the kids to see this exhibition last week. It really was excellent. I recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time though. We found that three hours flew past and it cost about £25 for the three of us. Better to go in the morning and make a day of it. There is so much to do and see. It's a pity they don't seem to do a year long pass. I'd happily pay for it. Needless to say my kids and this big kid loved it and we might even try and go back this weekend as they're offering workshops with some of Aardman's animators.
I particularly enjoyed the jam splatting workshop and the plasticine forest. Good to se the Wallace and Gromit sets. Buddding stop frame animators will be interested to see the scale and intricate level of detail in the set designs. Great contraptions and interesting information on intellectual property issues too.
