Insurance policy of Abraham Pasha’s mansion known as the “Cercle d’Orient” on the Grande Rue de Pera (1893-1894)

When giving advances to high ranking bureaucrats the Ottoman Bank adopted a somewhat more lenient attitude compared to that offered to its general customers. On the other hand, the bank always tried to obtain some compensation for potential losses and delays. The collateral offered was almost invariably the same: arrears certificates (the most unreliable security for the bank), stocks and bonds, and real estate. Abraham Pasha, one of the wealthiest men of the time, had lost a fortune in gambling and stock market speculation and had ended up borrowing 88,000 liras from the bank. In return he had to pawn his entire stocks and bonds portfolio, together with his impressive mansion in Pera. Following his incapacity to repay his debt, the bank eventually seized both.

Kumar ve borsada bir servet kaybetmiş ve sonunda bankadan 88.000 lira borç almak durumunda kalmıştı. I've got an open cabinet where I store my longer rolls of fabric that I don't fold. This was supposed to be a kitchen cabinet but it was ordered wrong and ended up in our basement for a while. I adjusted it to work as a base piece for my cutting table. I've considered creating doors for it, but haven't. There is a 1/2 shelf and that shelf has often been a mismatch of random fabrics. But I never put anything important there because the cats would sleep on it.
So I decided to give up on using it as storage space and place the pad from my sewing chair on that shelf. Boos has decided that this is his space when I'm sewing. Which is relieving when you think about long-tailed cats lying on the floor in the same room as a distracted woman driving a rolling chair.

Was going through some old paperwork and came across this insurance policy from when I lived in Darwin, Northern Territory quite a few years ago. TIO used to sell them as a gimmick for tourists.
TIO no longer exsist so you couldn't claim on the policy....if you survived a croc attack that is?!
A few of the policy terms on the back state:
* You have to have medical evidence you were attacked by a croc,
* You have to be fatally attacked
* You have 30 days to claim after the attack.
* You weren't insured if you were trying to commit suicide, drunk or on a dare.

I’ve recently gotten back into better habits regarding my exercising
and eating routines. As of late, neither had been a routine, which sort of affected my general health and even happiness for a brief stint. At the point that I began feeling this, I knew my body was trying to tell me that things were in need of a change. Without that change, it would start to go downhill more and I’d have even less motivation to change it.
So, last week I picked up running again. I never used to be a big runner in the past, as I focused more on lifting weights and packing on some muscle. I’d attempt to keep my cardio in check with different machines and pick up games of basketball, but I never stuck to a running routine longer than a month.
So when I started last week, I told myself I wanted to focus on running more than anything else. More than lifting, more than basketball, and more than alternate forms of cardio. It just seems like running is the most basic of human activities and has been around in our history and evolution longer than any other form of exercise, so that’s what I would focus most on.
Pleasantly enough, I’ve felt the quite positive side effects of taking on running these past 8 or 9 days. Because I’m busying myself with working out after work or dinner, I have less time to do other things (such as drinking, which I would often do). Just as well, I’m more tired than I typically would be, so I’m sleeping more and doing other unhealthy things less (like snacking late at night).
All of this goes to show that one major change in your #lifestyle can start to impact and engender other changes for the better, too.
