Sandler Hudson Gallery is pleased to announce the latest body of work from celebrated painter Don Cooper. Cooper’s exploratory practice has led him from figurative painting to abstract work. As he says, “I’m looking for something I’ve never seen before, something described by its difference.” The "Tipping Point and Neutral Gray No. 6" is a show comprised of evidence of this search.
The work that immediately predates this exhibition explored the fire and heat of creative passion through the shape of the triangle. Cooper’s new paintings have become less specific. By stretching and distorting the triangular shape while attempting to retain the energy of the three-sided image, Cooper creates work that looks for meaning in imbalance.
D O N C O O P E R has lived and worked in Atlanta since 1976. He has been awarded fellowships from the Fullbright Program, SECCA 7, The Southern Arts Federation, CGR, and Awards in the Visual Arts. In 2004, Cooper was one of six Georgia artists to be included in the MOCA GA exhibition Transitions II, curated by Karen Comer Lowe. He is one of three winners of the inaugural 2007 MOCA GA Working Artist Project Grant. He was awarded the Judith Alexander Artadia Award in 2009. I recieved formal advice from UWA today that they would provide General and Public Liability Insurance for my Pavilion when in the city. This is fantastic news, as this was a major box that I needed to tick before installing the project. I would not have been able to proceed had I not got this insurance.
All I need now is the final formal approval from the State Government, owners of the land, and the project is signed-off, ready to go. I've been advised that this approval will be a mere formality following the sighting of this Insurance document.
I'm pretty stoked about all of this!!!

Actually, that's unfair. They were nice guys, but I suspect not so used to very ancient ceilings like ours. The insurance sent them to do our damp ceiling, but the noise and destructiveness of the process made them feel like invaders.
