As a society, a bathroom's design, shape, color, brand, finishing... Can say a lot about a person's standard of living and even personality.
My bathroom has shaped a big insecurity, we never renewed it since my family bought the apartment. Thus creating a huge barrier between me and people. I have always treated people with a little distant not inviting them to my home, afraid of their judgement.
To me, a bathroom is a symbol of all triggers to insecurities in our life, name it, family members, body features, personal habits, education.. etc.
It may seem shallow to satisfy society but never underestimate its dangerous consequences.

Using the idea’s from an ancient figurine from Catal Hoyuk; the two sided women, that on the front is plump and fertile and on the back is a depleted human. This piece doesn’t just represent the thin line between life and death for females during pregnancy, but also the thin line between life and death for all humans when they depend upon a good harvest... The insecurity of an ancient population when they depend on agriculture and harvest alone led them to create such fertility figurines.
This is an image of a sculpture (8cm in height) I shaped and carved out of clay in response to learning of Catal Hoyuk's figurine's
For my public/private art project, I screenprinted my social security card onto the back of 18 matchboxes. The other side has a phone number and a typical pick-up line you may find when you get digits at a bar or club. The art was to be distributed randomly at bars as a "found object."

One of the greatest challenges Kenya seems to face is insecurity, especially in cities like Nairobi and Naivasha. Here we are just driving along a main road and spot this sign begging thugs to drop their firearms into the yellow canister. Even where we live, guns are quite numerous, though pangas (machetes) are more widely used and available. We're thankful everyday that we haven't had a run-in yet!
