Nomada bee caught out in the cold by some cloud cover. Shortly after taking this shot, the bee walked onto my hand (I was holding the leaf) walked up my hand and then took off.

Probably Nomada fabriciana

Just managed to spot this grisly scene hidden amongst the foliage, difficult to see but there's a long needle like probe coming from the insects head and into it's victim, partially hidden behind a leg.

Not sure the insect though.

Probably Ocyptamus fascipennis. About 15 mm long. The flower is bee brush, Eysenhardtia texana. Searight Park, Austin.

The English name of this unusual little moth is something of a misnomer, as each wing is separated into 6 'plumes'. The scientific name is more accurate, meaning 'six-fingered'.

The only British member of its family, it is fairly common throughout, and can be found in the adult stage at almost any time of year.

The larva feeds on the leaves and buds of honeysuckle (Lonicera), and the moth is nocturnal and attracted to light.

A Fritillary, maybe? Gulf?

Found this leaf bug (katydid) in Rosalind Park yesterday morning, didn't notice it until I was looking closely at the plant it is on, wanted a shot of the red leaves with water drops with some green in the background, I think this is better though!

I was very surprised to see a cold looking Queen wasp the other day, sitting in a variegated holly bush. It eventually felt the warmth of my hand and walked on. It was beginning to get rather dark from in coming rain clouds so I took it into the Porch

I am not much of an insect photographer, but this one did not chase me so I stood my ground and took a picture.

Tent Caterpillars. One of them threatened me as you can see in the photo.

If you look closely, you can see the head and antennae of the insect it just caught and is starting to eat.

Just finished up winterizing the pool I manage during the summer. I take a look around to see if I missed something during clean up and I noticed this praying mantis sitting pretty by the side of the pool. This is a photo opportunity!!!
