lovely contrast on this ragwort

Saw this vibrant creature on the car this morning. Not sure the species but it sure was pretty.

A rather groovy looking caterpillar.

the crane fly looks like a large mosquito but they are more related to flies rather than mosquitoes. they are also considered to be the largest group of flies. they are not known to bite animals nor people. the fly in the photo is around 6 cms long

Can't resist thinking this little guy looks like an alien (at least what I imagine them to look like) :)

Most of you know that I am terrified of all things with more than four legs but for the sake of the project I have to make the most of every photo opportunity. Unlucky guy has lost one of his leg.

I normally can't stand bugs of any shape or size, but I couldn't stop chasing this little guy around to get a shot of him.

i guess it's a norfolk damselfly (in german: hauben-azurjungfer)...

Harlequin bug

You’d think that a lunch stop this time of year would be wasp free but no! This little fellow walked along my friend Ian’s cycle top and let me take his photo.

None of the flies (or other insects) in my photos are frozen or dead. None have been manually 'posed'. All are photographed alive and well in their natural environment, unless they are being killed or eaten by another insect in the photo.

a little eye candy

This wasp landed on the water and started drinking. I had been sitting there taking pictures of wasps drinking. All others landed on the side and drank from the edge. This one just landed on the water!

Identification anyone?
