Gespot dankzij Jos Eijsackers op Lentevreugd/Wassenaar, Jos bedankt nog voor het aanwijzen zodat ik hem op de plaat kon zetten.

Arge pagana - Rose sawfly.

Thanks to Maureen and Ken for the very helpful ID. The larvae will defoliate roses and damage young shoots so it is best to keep a watch for them and destroy.

Any help on ID much appreciated. About 15 mm long and slightly broader than a matchstick. Found on the edge of a recently cut meadow. Watts wood, Lincolnshire

A female Trissolcus flavipes parasitoid wasp of the Scelionidae family found on oak bark in Guestling Woods. This species can be distinguished from other Trissolcus spp. by transverse arcuate striae on the frons. In this picture a hint of that striation is highlighted by the angle of light. A commonly found species throughout Guestling Woods.

I took these photos about a week ago, before the cyclone. I checked the Cattana Wetlands a couple of days ago and it is flooded. The gate was closed and I took a couple of photos by the side of the gate of the water which I will post sometime. I think this is a damselfly and the two photos represent two different perches it was on. Both photos are quite high digital zoom. I have more photos of this same damselfly with a lot less zoom and different perches and may post another time.

The creature was small.

Lang's insects at the Fitchburg art museum. These were made when he was starting insects, and you can tell how these creations don't compare to his modern ones! Still amazing nonetheless.

I think I'm going to call this finished. I could noodle in more details and fix that bottom most head... maybe some other time though. Best viewed big methinks.

In Māori tradition, all insects are respected as children of Tāne, god of the forests. It was said that if a stick insect landed on you in the bush, you were entering a sacred place. If a stick insect landed on a woman it was a sign she was pregnant.

Do you know its scientific name?
