INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: Better Management of Interdependencies between Programs Supporting 2020 Census Is Needed
Note: The Bureau continues to refine its assumptions as it conducts further research and testing leading up to the 2020 Census.

While most know me for my photography, my actual job is with a college in Oakville, Ontario where I provide IT support to the entire college community. While these days most of the students and staff are working out of their home, there are a few of us who come onto the campus daily to work and learn. Here's a little peek into a quiet college campus...almost too quiet.

Worked at home this week. One day I did a time lapse at 1 minute intervals from 8 AM - 4:30 PM. Jazzed it up a bit, and got this. Royalty free music from CCMixter.org.
Recut to be a bit better and to use better music.

The gray lines connect pairs of agencies whereby only one agency within the pair identified the need to be interoperable with the other agency, and the black lines connect pairs of agencies whereby both agencies within the pair mutually and independently identified the need to be interoperable with one another.

Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, this is where I make things happen in the IT world of my job. Solving computer problems, cleaning up viruses, cloning workstations, resetting passwords, creating new accounts in Active Directory, occasional playing with the latest and greatest piece of new computer hardware, or replacing a broken video card. There is always something going on, every day is faced with new challenges, I rarely see the same computer problem twice.

Lance works in Identity Group's Information Technology department. As such, I thought we'd have a bit of fun with his portrait. I used the same technique I used on Noelle's shot to photograph Lance in the server room of the company.
This was probably my favorite shot from the series. I liked the halfway serious face and somewhat intense look in Lance's eyes. At the end of the day, however, the company will likely choose one of the shots that is brighter and where he has a noticeably happier expression on his face.

FEDERAL TELEWORK: Better Guidance Could Help Agencies Calculate Benefits and Costs
Note: The 2014 Status of Telework in the Federal Government Report to Congress stated that different numbers of agencies responded to each of the telework participation questions each year. Eighty-two agencies reported on the number of telework-eligible employees in 2011, 83 in 2012, and 86 in 2013. Eighty-two agencies reported on the number of telework agreements in 2011, 81 in 2012, and 83 in 2013. Seventy-five agencies reported on the number of employees teleworking in 2012 and 81 in 2013. OPM did not collect data on the number of employees that teleworked in fiscal year 2011 and thus we did not include this information.
How slow can you go, well for me the slowest I'm shooting the new P3200 is ASA-800, and you know the results are rather lovely. All the tones are there, clean, decent grain given everything.

I have a brand-new MacBook. This is the adapter to be used when connecting my laptop to an external display, such as the projection system in a classroom: it is a female VGA plug and needs a corresponding male VGA plug from the external display in order to work.
I am running into 3 problems as I teach in my smart classrooms.
1. It's hard to set up the laptop so that it's not sitting on top of some other piece of equipment.
This is a problem for me in classrooms I use this semester or will be using next semester: HPAC 218 (see here), HPAC 219 (see here), & SMITH 210.
It would be nice to have a very long cable that allows the laptop to be placed on the podium or on one of the desks. Best Buy sells a VGA cable for $15 (click here), but I don't know enough about the needs of the projection system to know if that cable would work. Would the quality of the image be good enough through such an inexpensive cable?
2. In HPAC 218, I have to disconnect the document camera from the projection system in order to connect my laptop. Can another connection be made available for use with laptops?
3. SMIT 204 has no cable at all, but a female plug built into the technology car: See for yourself. Even with a male-to-male adapter, I cannot plug my laptop into the projection system.
What do I need to connect to the projection system?
