Anthony Caro - the American influence
From 27 January to 5 March 2022, the Gagosian Gallery presents in London "Caro and the American Painters", an exhibition of sculptures made by the British artist Anthony Caro in the 1960s and 1970s, exhibited alongside contemporary paintings by his American friends.
Top right is a page from my sketchbook showing some artist research that I conducted at the beginning of my A-Level project into Matthew Harris. The other images are examples of how this research influenced my work later on in the project. For example, top left, is a weave that I created incorporating the colours and block effect seen in Harris' work which is supported by a collaged strip to create a mood-board. Bottom is a pencil drawing I did focusing on Oriental architecture on top of a collaged page of colours seen in Harris' work.

When a building is finished, the workers go to the zone of influence of the same colour. Not only do they count points here, half the cubes of the majority colour go on to the next zone and score again.
For this image, I was inspired by the work of Photographer, David Bailey. Although his portrait photography is amazing I have been inspired by his less well-known collections of still life photographs. For one of his collections Bailey took photographs of skulls with flowers – these photos are very dramatic, I think what makes these photos so successful is the strong contrast between life and death in the images with the fresher flowers and the ones with the dying flowers represent death and decay. This edit was created from my Ziggy Stardust inspired self-portraiture photoshoot for my Graded Unit project: ROCK ICONS - INFLUENCERS OF FASHION.

Theodore Roosevelt was the first president that travelled extensively, as he had raised the idea of bully pulpit, from which a political leader could widely and powerfully impose their influence. That was a monumental change in American history that laid the foundation for the country’s supreme leader’s position and legacy. Today, it seems to me that the bully pulpit could be leveraged to deceive and intimidate as much as it might for inspirations and empowerment. What, then, is the right attitude for the person in that pulpit, and how about those who are watching it?
