Open your eyes to the changing role of folk art as it influences Southern culture through a collection of 500 artifacts ranging from pottery to musical instruments.
Highlighted artists include the Meaders and Hewell family pottery makers, chair-maker Walter Shelnut, Cherokee basket-maker Lucille Lossiah, the Reeves family of basket makers, story quilter Harriet Powers and blacksmith Philip Simmons.
Throughout the exhibition, videos present folk art processes and are complemented by touchable examples of highlighted works. Two enclosed rooms create listening environments for visitors to hear folk storytelling, singing and instrumental music.

We celebrated the art of influence with Delacroix! We painted our own masterpieces inspired by Degas, van Gogh, and Cezanne. We also became a part of the art with a van Gogh-inspired photobooth and enjoyed music from Joey Ryan & The Inks! And, as always, it was all FREE!

As part of the #ShapeYourFuture campaign, implemented by EU NEIGHBOURS east, 12 influencers from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine travelled to Riga and Prague on 16-22 June to learn how these countries have benefited from being part of the EU.
Participants visited the European Commission Representations in Latvia and Czechia, met local influencers Patricia Vavilova and Rozárie Haškovcová, and learned how governments and NGOs are developing strategies to address disinformation and integrate state activities into a coherent communicative narrative.

Influenced by OLPC, focusing on independent learning, I composed a 6000 book Calibre based library (over hundreds of hours) in conjunction with theCenterofthenet.com to teach small groups of parents and students. This online based EMS progressed to customized tablets and eventually about 50 workstations.. Initially adaptation was difficult, requiring the same digital immigrant orientation as previously experienced in the US in 1995, Eastern Germany 96/97 and Chinese classrooms 09+. Customized Ubuntu based systems, containing the library and other supportive apps & utilities were developed, targeting early adaptation starting with children 5-7 with parental support for lifelong learning. Workstations enhanced across the curriculum ESL, with a strong emphasis on self-learning. Initially OneNote based notebooks were utilized, which due to local censorship/scalability issues, evolved into an open source self-created Cherry Tree based SELMS (Self Learning Management System). Manjaro replaced Ubuntu for easier rolling updates and administration. Every single skill I have learned was required to get to this point. You cannot spell teach without “TECH” (not my quote).
At the many stalls on the market you will also find a lot of brocante. The strong southern influences as well as from Africa are clearly visible. Many special items that you will not quickly find elsewhere.
