Floris was put to sleep by the vet. 16 years old. He could not go on like this. He lost a lot of weight and strength and the inflamation of his nose got worser and worser .This was caused by a polyp in the nose against the eye socket that couldnot be operated. The antibiotics didnot work anymore. There was no longer any prospect of improvement.

The inflammation had become very bad. He was on painkillers the last two month.

De dierenarts heeft Floris laten inslapen. Net 16 jaar oud.

The lily has a diversity of symbolism throughout the world. In fact, different colored lilies represent different things altogether. While the white lily represents purity, the tiger lily represents pride or confidence. In Japan and China, lilies are a traditional symbol of good luck, whereas Greek lore associates the flower with motherhood. Pink Stargazer lilies represent hope for wealth and prosperity while white Peruvian lilies are a symbol of devotion.

Although these flowers are toxic to our furry friends, lilies have been used medicinally and in cuisine for centuries. The edible bulbs are cultivated in China and Korea, where they are most popular in the northern and central regions. Dried lilies are an ancient laxative or diuretic, and wood lily roots are used to treat stomach disorders and fevers.

Dried or fresh bulbs, which have soothing and astringent properties, can be useful in treating inflammation and even ulcers.

Jasmijn has been suffering from an overactive thyroid gland for six months. She is being treated with drugs that had to be increased after a few months. She's not that active anymore. Also suffered from excessive vomiting due to inflammation of the stomach for a long time. She was given antibiotics injections and fortunately she is now doing better. Although she still eats little.

After two weeks of recovering from a painful inflammation in my upper arm, I drove to Ahrensfelder Damm near Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Lower-Saxony in the north of Germany. The tracks of the local touristattraction Moorexpress are one of my favorite motifs and this time I managed to get a beautiful sun star almost above the the middle of the tracks.

This is a DRI version consisting of two exposures, that I combined using Darktable and GIMP.

Pears are rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, E1, copper and potassium. Pears are the least allergenic of all fruits. Because of this, it is sometimes used as the first juice introduced to infants. Along with lamb and soya formula, pears form part of the strictest exclusion diet for allergy sufferers.

Pears can be useful in treating inflammation of mucous membranes, colitis, chronic gallbladder disorders, arthritis, and gout.

Pears can also be beneficial in lowering high blood pressure, controlling blood cholesterol levels, and increasing urine acidity.

They are good for the lungs and the stomach.

Most of the fiber is insoluble, making pears a good laxative. The gritty fiber content may cut down on the number of cancerous colon polyps.

Most of the vitamin C, as well as the dietary fiber, are contained within the skin of the fruit.

Floris went to a veterinary clinic two month ago where they looked into his nose with an endoscope. He continued to have inflammation of his right nose opening despite many different courses of antibiotics. They couldn't get up to the nose. With an X-ray it has been determined that there is a polyp at the very top of the eye socket. That would mean a major operation and because enlarged lymph nodes have also been found in the lungs which probably indicates a malignant process and given his age, he is almost 15 years old, very old for a Maine Coon, they advise not to operate. As long as possible prednisone and antibiotics. We have to wait and see how long he has a good time. Until now with antibiotics he feels well and eats. It doesnot seem to bother him now.

Today is World Encephalitis Day

That's what Encephalitis is, for those who don't already know.

Long before as much information was known on this condition, we as parents experienced it first hand, when our eldest became ill

Unbeknown to us the night before becoming unwell she had experienced uncontrollable shaking, which we now know was rigors. It happens when you have a steep rise in your temperature.

At the time she thought it was just her cold, as she had a sore throat too

The events that followed were an utter parents nightmare.

We saw five doctors before she finally got diagnosed, by which time nothing could be done and we were told it was just a waiting game, to see if she recovered

Months and months went by, most days she slept 24/7

Then after about six months, we saw signs of improvement

The neurologist informed us that something as simple as paracetamol would have helped with the temperature, had we known

We got her back thank god but it robbed her of many of the goals she wanted to achieve

Today she still suffers with extreme tiredness and very similar symptoms to long covid

I've written this, to make others aware, as prior to this happening, I had never heard of Encephalitis. A lot more is known now

I remember the first doctor we spoke to telling us, he was out of his depth knowing what was wrong

With love to my beautiful daughter, we're glad we got you back XX

Mallow (lat. Malva), or kalachik, or stem-rose - the type genus of the Malvaceae family - a herbaceous plant, usually annual, sometimes biennial and perennial. Today, about 30 species of mallow grow naturally in the temperate climates of North Africa, North America, Asia and Europe. Mallow was cultivated in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece: a description of the healing properties of the plant was found in the writings of Hippocrates and Pliny the Elder. In the twenties of the last century, scientists discovered ecological plasticity and high fodder qualities in mallow. And large bright pink flowers have always aroused the admiration of artists who depicted them in paintings, and poets who sang about them in verse.

Mallow has long been known in folk medicine. The beneficial properties of mallow have been studied by healers in many countries. For example, an infusion of mallow flowers and leaves cures stomach inflammation and intestinal disorders. Hot baths with steamed leaves or flowers of mallow (mallow) help relieve swelling of the spleen. The forest mallow grass is a constant component of chest collections.

This is my second image of Calendula, this time wide open. I looked up the name and it came back with this:

What is calendula used for?

The dried petals of the calendula plant are used in tinctures, ointments, and washes to treat burns, bruises, and cuts, as well as the minor infections they cause. Calendula also has been shown to help prevent dermatitis or skin inflammation in people with breast cancer during radiation therapy.

Hello everyone Happy weekend

my sweet Delta Freedom

a special one 9 years old

She's back!

After months of inflammation in her leg.

She had surgery on May 1st, the last chance!

Is going well now!

greetings all the animals on the farm

Caroline

Thanks a lot to all my friends in Flickr for your best wishes regarding my surgery. Everything went well, my recovery is fast and without problems. I had a full hip replacement done almost 2 weeks ago and I was walking with a walker the next day of the surgery. I have almost no pain and the inflammation is almost gone, doing therapy at home several times a week and a nurse came few times to see if all is well. My surgeon (Dr. Andrew Yun) have a lots of experience (30 years) and one of the best in the country in this kind of surgeries.

The budgerigar (/ˈbʌdʒərɪˌɡɑːr, -əriː-/ BUJ-ər-ih-gar, -ə-ree-;Melopsittacus undulatus), also known as the common parakeet or shell parakeet, is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot usually nicknamed the budgie (/ˈbʌdʒi/ BUJ-ee), or in American English, the parakeet. Budgies are the only species in the genus Melopsittacus. Naturally, the species is green and yellow with black, scalloped markings on the nape, back, and wings. Budgies are bred in captivity with colouring of blues, whites, yellows, greys, and even with small crests. Juveniles and chicks are monomorphic, while adults are told apart by their cere colouring, and their behaviour.

The species is the only member of the genus Melopsittacus, which is the only genus in the Melopsittacini tribe.

The origin of the budgerigar's name is unclear. First recorded in 1805, budgerigars are popular pets around the world due to their small size, low cost, and ability to mimic human speech. They are likely the third most popular pet in the world, after the domesticated dog and cat. Budgies are nomadic flock parakeets that have been bred in captivity since the 19th century. In both captivity and the wild, budgerigars breed opportunistically and in pairs.

They are found wild throughout the drier parts of Australia, where they have survived harsh inland conditions for over five million years. Their success can be attributed to a nomadic lifestyle and their ability to breed while on the move. The budgerigar is closely related to lories and the fig parrots.

This is the only time of year these plants look pretty. Here's what the Internet says

The fruit of prickly pears, commonly called cactus fruit, cactus fig, Indian[8] fig, nopales[9] or tuna in Spanish,[10] is edible, although it must be peeled carefully to remove the small spines on the outer skin before consumption. If the outer layer is not properly removed, glochids can be ingested, causing discomfort of the throat, lips, and tongue, as the small spines are easily lodged in the skin. Native Americans, like the Tequesta, would roll the fruit around in a suitable medium (e.g. grit) to "sand" off the glochids. Alternatively, rotating the fruit in the flame of a campfire or torch has been used to remove the glochids. Today, parthenocarpic (seedless) cultivars are also available.

In Mexico, prickly pears are often used to make appetizers, soups, and salads through entrees, vegetable dishes, and breads to desserts, beverages, candy, jelly, or drinks. The young stem segments, usually called nopales, are also edible in most species of Opuntia.[9] They are commonly used in Mexican cuisine in dishes such as huevos con nopales (eggs with nopal), or tacos de nopales. Nopales are also an important ingredient in New Mexican cuisine.

Opuntia contains a range of phytochemicals in variable quantities, such as polyphenols, dietary minerals and betalains. Identified compounds under basic research include gallic acid, vanillic acid and catechins, as examples.[14] The Sicilian prickly pear contains betalain, betanin, and indicaxanthin, with highest levels in their fruits.[16]

In Mexican folk medicine, its pulp and juice are considered treatments for wounds and inflammation of the digestive and urinary tracts.[17]

Out of damp and gloomy days, out of solitude, out of loveless words directed at us, conclusions grow up in us like fungus: one morning they are there, we know not how, and they gaze upon us, morose and gray. Woe to the thinker who is not the gardener but only the soil of the plants that grow in him.

Please, you all out there, pray for Sika who is fighting for his way back to life since two weeks after being poisoned.

(update 16.8.) After his operation, after an initial improvement, the inflammation values have now risen very sharply. In addition, the kidney values have gone completely off track. There was no other choice but to let him go. Our Lord carried him on his strong arms over the Rainbow Bridge. Rest in peace, little fighter. You had a wonderful life in a loving family.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!

The fresh, recently opened leaves of a Ginko tree on my client's property, which I park beside.

I love spring! New life and growth, the warmer weather, seeing the sun again and the influx and activity of bird life...

Seeing the tiny, new Ginko leaves are no exception. I have often noted how beautiful the leaf structure is, and with the lighter shade of spring green, this year I finally attempted to capture it in a captivating way!

I recently found out that the Ginko leaf is also medicinal. Ginkgo biloba is rich in antioxidants, can reduce inflammation, benefit heart health, brain function, and eye health, etc..

I continue to be juggling more in life than I ideal, and find it hard to find time for one of my favourite past-times: enjoying your shots on Flickr!! I am hoping the load will feel lighter when I finish homeschooling in a week or so.

Happy belated Mother's Day and Father's Day!!

Please don't use this image on websites, blogs, etc. without my permission.

Vaska suddenly fell ill yesterday morning. He was breathing heavily and had trouble holding on to his paws. I immediately took him to the vet. And after the examination, which included an X-ray and a heart scan, the veterinarian said that Vaska had two to six months to live! It turned out that he had one of the atria enlarged three times more than normal, water in the lungs and inflammation of the bladder. For me, it was a completely unexpected and terrible blow. The cat is only 7 years old, and even the day before he looked healthy, jumped on the fence, going for a walk ... The veterinarian suggested leaving him in the hospital for the night, but I decided that the cat would be better at home. At the clinic, he received the necessary injections and gave me the medicines Vaska needed for the next week.

He is better, but signs of illness are visible ...

Gromwell (Lithospermum erythrorhizon) has been used as an herbal medicine for treatment of various abnormal skin conditions including wounds, inflammation and healing burns

The oleander (Nerium oleander), also known as Espirradeira or Flor-de-São-José (in Brazil), is a relatively common ornamental plant (including on sidewalks and public roads), but extremely toxic.

It is a large shrub, and can be around 3 to 5 m in height (although there is a smaller variety). Its flowers can be white, pink or red. The leaves are narrow and long, sometimes described as spearheaded. It is an undemanding plant in terms of temperature and humidity.

The oleander is originally from North Africa, the eastern Mediterranean and southern Asia. It is very common in Portugal and Brazil, whether spontaneous or cultivated.

Its active ingredients are oleandrin and neriantin, which are extraordinarily toxic substances. A leaf is enough to kill an 80 kg man - although vomiting often prevents the fatal outcome. In contact with the skin, the sap also presents risks, and it is advisable to use gloves when handling.

I found more informations about the toxicity of this plant:

Although it has historically been considered a poisonous plant, its bitterness renders it unpalatable to humans and most animals, so poisoning cases are rare and the general risk for human mortality is low. Ingestion of larger amounts may cause nausea, vomiting, excess salivation, abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea and irregular heart rhythm. Prolonged contact with sap may cause skin irritation, eye inflammation and dermatitis.

Poinsettia, also known by the names of beak-of-parrot (in Brazil), flower-of-christmas, or star-of-christmas is a plant originally from Mexico, where it is spontaneous. Its scientific name is Euphorbia pulcherrima, which means "the most beautiful (pulquérrima) of euphorbia".

It is a plant widely used for decorative purposes, especially at Christmas time, due to its leaves resembling petals of red flowers.

Its leaves are rough and measure 10 to 20 cm, while the flowers themselves are the tiny yellowish-green lumps in the shape of chalice, located at the tips of adult branches.

In the northern hemisphere it blooms exactly on the winter solstice that coincides with Christmas, which would explain why this plant is not so identified with Christmas in Brazil, where in nature it blooms from June to August.

The plant was used by the Aztecs for the production of paints used in cosmetics and dyeing fabrics, in addition to using their sap in the production of medicines against fever.

The milky sap of the plant, constituted by a type of irritating latex, in contact with the skin and mucous membranes causes inflammation, pain and itching, and can also cause irritation in the eyes, tearing, swelling of the eyelids and difficulties in vision. Ingestion can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. It is false, however, that it can cause death.

Florists, especially those from Scandinavia and California, were responsible for obtaining varieties more adapted to domestic decoration, either because of their size (since these plants even form branched shrubs that reach 3 m in height, especially if planted outdoor), or by the color and color pattern present in bracts. Thus, there are Poinsettias in orange, pale green, marbled, speckled, etc.

HMM!

Elvis (red-shouldered hawk) came to play today. He arrived in oak three just before the bird show. He sat watching the birds as they arrived. Like me he had a difficult time keeping up with all of the motion. His head was turning ever which way as he tried to keep up.

There were little gnat catchers, Northern Parulas, and a variety of warblers zipping from branch to branch in the oaks. The Tufted titmice, Carolina wrens, Northern Cardinals joined in as they went from the feeders to the understory. Felix and Kitty, the catbirds were hopping around in the understory as well.

Five pine warblers were picking around in the rocks underneath the original feeding station. They were soon joined by a couple of palm warblers. Then, along came the bluebirds. Today the bluebirds were joined by some beautiful goldfinches. The bluebirds and goldfinches always seem to get along well.

I'm sure the goldfinches were just passing through. Regardless, I did make sure to freshen the millet and Niger in case more arrive in search of a quick snack. They don't really stick around for the winter but they pass through from time to time from autumn to spring.

When the bird show was over, Elvis began concentrating on the ground. He spotted something and dropped out of oak three disappearing in the understory. I spotted him and took a rather blurry shot to see what if anything he got. To my delight, it was a lizard. After that Elvis flew to the newest cedar snag (habitat enhancement) that was placed in the yard just for him. I was able to get a few shots of him as he perched there looking for another snack. Of course, I was in the living room so this image was taken through the window.

Have a wonderful day and happy snapping.

PS: Please forgive me for only faving and not commenting on photos for a while. The little dab of typing I have done for this post has my hands aching. According to my doctor, I have De Quervain syndrome in both hands. That is swelling and inflammation of the tendons or tendon sheaths that move the thumb outward. It is caused by repetitive motion such as typing, sewing etc. Mine is probably due to raising butterflies. I find it rather difficult not to use my hands during the day. I won't be raising butterflies again until late February so hopefully my hands can heal before then. Again, please forgive the lack of comments. I'm not looking for a pity party, I just want people to understand that I'm not being rude by not commenting. I'm simply temporarily taking it easy.

The adder is the UK's only venomous snake, but its poison is generally of little danger to humans: an adder bite can be painful and cause a inflammation, but is really only dangerous to the very young, ill or old. If bitten, medical attention should be sought immediately, however. Adders are secretive animals and prefer to slither off into the undergrowth rather than confront and bite humans and domestic animals; most attacks happen when they are trodden on or picked up. Instead, they use their venom to immobilise and kill their prey of small mammals, nestlings and lizards.

Today was the first time this week that Fynn wanted to spend more than a few minutes in his garden. He had a flare-up of his diarrhea about 8 days ago and didn't feel well all week. A blood test showed signs of a massive inflammation but they couldn't find any bacteria or parasites in his poo. The diarrhea is getting better at the moment but it doesn't make things really easier if you don't know what causes these episodes. Fynn's appetite has also been better today and it was good to see him enjoying time outdoors. We would really need a longer stable period which would allow him to gain some weight again.

Elijah is always happy when he has his squirrel to play with!

I'm posting an older picture.... again... I had a bad reaction to the medication used for the immunotherapy. It's been a very long and scary week. I don't think that there is anything more terrifying then when you can't get your breath. I was told that lung inflammation could happen with this treatment but we were hoping that it wouldn't. I'm unsure what happens now as far as treatment goes. It's rather worrisome to think that I will have to stop just when the cancer is responding so well.

I suppose that I better play with the boys as long as I'm able to. Both of the boys make me happy when they are playing with their toys and Elijah always makes me smile when he poses for picture. :)

I dedicate this, with thanks to the angels who were along for the ride, to Jan, who, with her family, survived a horrific accident with just bruises. I hope you all heal quickly.

Here's some information about the medicinal uses as well as side effects and cautions. I posted this image before I knew Jan was going to post her shot today, so it's interesting that one of its uses is to help reduce inflammation.

Excerpt from the plaque:

Mullein:

•Considered a weed by most gardeners, Mullein has been used by herbalists for centuries to treat respiratory problems and skin conditions. The leaves and flowers of this plant contain compounds that act as a demulcent – something that soothes irritation in mucous membranes like the nose and throat. Applied directly to the skin, mullein can help burns and skin inflammation and when steeped in an oil, can be used to treat ear infections.

•Ancient Romans used spike-like clusters of Mulleins as torches.

•Mullein is used as a source of dyes that have applications in the cosmetic industry.

Linden flowers are used in herbalism for colds, cough, fever, infections, inflammation, high blood pressure, and headache (particularly migraine), and as a diuretic, antispasmodic and sedative.

Linden flower tea has a pleasing taste, due to the aromatic volatile oil found in the flowers.

It is used for treatment of disorders of the respiratory tract, fever, and flu.

This is a photo I took of Sethi a week ago. If you look closely you can see that his chin is quite red and he has a scab. At that time the wound (which was probably the result of a cat fight) was closed and seemed to heal well. The next day he repeatedly scratched his chin with his hind paws and the wound started to bleed. He then had to wear a cone and we hoped that the wound would heal again. It didn't and I took him to the vet on Monday. The vet diagnosed a severe inflammation which might even require surgery if it doesn't heal under antibiotics. Yesterday we had another vet visit and the vet thinks that the wound looks slightly better, so for now we continue with the antibiotics therapy. Sethi will see the vet again on Saturday and then some time next week. He isn't a very good patient, hates the cone, hates his medicine, hates having to stay indoors and hates having to use the litter box. The next days will be .... challenging.

Today I bought the season ticket for "my" park which had been closed all winter due to Covid. They reopened recently and as I had missed this place terribly I decided to make the most of the lovely weather and take a walk around the park. It was wonderful and I was happy to still find some pretty crocus like the ones in this photo. I didn't take many photos as I have an inflammation of the wrist joint capsule which makes handling a camera rather difficult. According to the doctor I should avoid computer work too which is impossible because I earn my living with computer work. I don't know how much I will be able to do on Flickr, though, so please forgive me if I don't comment on all your photos.

Macro Mondays: "Knolling"

Acetylsalicylic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to reduce pain, fever, and/or inflammation. Lit with a flashlight.

The image is about 6.5 cm (2.5 inches) on the long edge.

Giant Hog Weed (Heracleum mantegazzianum)

perennial plant and a member of the carrot family

Seeds may take several years to germinate and are viable in the soil for up to 15 years. During the first year, the plant produces a rosette of leaves up to one meter high. After 2 to 5 years the plant produces flowers. As it grows a large root, thick hollow stems and large lobed leaves are formed. The stems of the plant are covered with reddish-purple flecks and stiff hairs filled with sap. Sap may also collect in the hollow stem bases. Giant hogweed flowers once in its lifetime, Once the plant produces seeds it dies. Each plant can produce up to 120,000 winged seeds (typically 50,000). Seeds dropped in streams can float for three days. They can move long distances via water in ditches and streams. Seeds can also be spread up to 10 meters by the wind.

Health Concerns

The clear watery sap of giant hogweed contains toxins that can cause severe dermatitis (inflammation of the skin). You can get severe burns if you get the sap on your skin and the skin is then exposed to sunlight. Symptoms occur within 48 hours and consist of painful blisters. Purplish scars may form that last for many years. Eye contact with the sap has been reported (in the media and by various web sites) to cause temporary or permanent blindness. However, evidence of permanent blindness linked to exposure to giant hogweed cannot be substantiated by any existing research. Coming in contact with cow parsnip and wild parsnip can cause similar reactions.

Enniskillen Castle is lit up in different colours every now and then to mark different days and events in time tonight it is lit up to mark - Encephalitis day

World Encephalitis Day is observed every year on the 22 nd of February to raise awareness among the general public about this neurological condition that causes inflammation to the brain. This day helps to provide information, advice, support and offers hope to the millions of families impacted by this condition.

I try to do a little more every day, and I hope it works. At the moment it feels like that injection and medication are able to reduce the inflammation... I thank you so much my friends for your understanding and for being here 😘

Fungi are ubiquitous in nature. No one really knows how many species of fungi there are – one estimate is between 2.2m and 3.8m – and of those species only 120,000 have been documented. Fungi and moulds encompass a dizzying range of physical forms and attributes, living in both temperate environments and in extremes of hot, cold, or in the depths of the ocean.

Did you know that spending time in the forest ist good for the immune system? It reduces inflammation and increases the number of killer cells.

How awesome is that?!

It's so sad that most of the forests around where I live are not well prepared for climate change. If we don't manage to limit heating of the earth, they will most likely die.

Celery reduces inflammation................

Chronic inflammation has been linked to many illnesses, including arthritis and osteoporosis. Celery and celery seeds have approximately 25 anti-inflammatory compounds that can offer protection against inflammation in the body.

I took this photo from a big clump of Borage in the lane next to our house. I've tried in the past to photograph it but never succeeded - it can be a tad difficult because of the way the stunning flowers hang but this time I managed to find a way.

"Borage also known as starflower, is an annual herb in the flowering plant family Boraginaceae native to the Mediterranean region."

"Borage flower and leaves are used for fever, cough, and depression. Borage is also used for a hormone problem called adrenal insufficiency, for "blood purification," to increase urine flow, to prevent inflammation of the lungs, as a sedative, and to promote sweating."

It's also very popular with bees which of course is a very good thing indeed 😊

Pine trees ,the name of the state of west Bengal in Indian is jhaugach.

Tamarix Dioica is a twiggy shrub or small tree that grows in saline habitats in western Asia. Common names include ghaz and khagal in Pakistan, lal jhau, urusia, ban jhau, nona-gach, urichiya in Bangladesh and nona jhau in the Sunderbans.

People take Tamarix dioica for swelling (inflammation) of the liver (hepatitis), fever, and kidney disorders, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
