Buds on the drooping cherry tree that we have in our front garden taken this morning. An unexpected afternoon off for my OH too so we took off to WWT Llanelli to attempt to get the five spoonbills that have been there for quite a while now but I'll hang fire on those with regards my PoTD because they were so far out ( as was the tide) that I'm not too sure how good they look.
Not the usual type of photo for me but I was sat at my desk with my morning cup of tea and noticed the sunlight hitting this glass paperweight on the sideboard across the room from me, bought in Kew Gardens but Made in Wales...

Taken this morning through the car sunroof as we packed up the car to come home from our rural retreat. The plan was to stay over until Monday ( with Huw himself leaving early tomorrow for an MS Cymru Meeting and returning to join me ) However after a night of heavy rain and thunderstorms, and with severe warnings in place with storm force winds tomorrow, a decision was made to come home. Despite the blue skies in this we drove home through heavy rain.
I think this idiom describes my life to a tee at the mo. ..
We were on the road to Carmarthen just gone 7am because our son was expecting a Sky technician to install his TV set in his new home after he'd left for work . No sooner had the technician left than we headed back to Swansea because my better half was receiving a cheque , money raised for MS Society Cymru . My own remit was to photo the cheque presentation. After I'd done all that I captured this pile of white tea plates and gave them a spin in Photoshop.
It's very difficult to get everything done at home today because of the numerous birds that have fledged in my garden in recent days. I could quite easily sit in the garden all day watching and snapping them but need to get ready to drive to Cardiff later on. I've chosen this for my PotD because it amused me to see a baby sparrow perched on top of a rusty miniature heron statue that's near my garden pond.
A 'thistle-do' shot because I'm already inundated with requests for pics from last Friday ( see next photo along), also still have our friends from Hampshire visiting.
Undeterred by today's rain and a matter of an MS ( multiple sclerosis ) flare up affecting my mobility, I was intent on going for our annual Boxing Day stroll along the beach , not only for the benefits of blowing away the Christmas cobwebs but to try out a slightly wider angled lens that Santa gave me for Christmas ;-) Thankfully the rain cleared long enough to take a few shots.
While everyone else was shooting proper landscapes, I was looking down at the pebbles for letters!
Managed the full Alphabet in one day, although a few tenuous ones...
Or possibly 'away with the fairies' because you get an idea that instead of using a lensball , a glass paperweight will work just as well 🙈 Mind you things had been getting pretty hysterical in the Roberts household before this whilst I was videoing my husband's 'Christmas Message to the Nation' for MS Society Cymru's Social Media Page.
You have to pretend that this is a Comma Butterfly...... one that was flitting about so much that I gave up trying to get a shot so took this instead. The background is the large hydrangea bush that's in my back garden
One out of very many taken at Swansea Vale Ponds this afternoon. I stood for ages watching it fishing, flapping its wings before it jumped up onto this tree branch
I was up late last night so popped outside my back door to get this - 99.9% of Full and because I was up that late I couldn't wake up in time to see the lunar eclipse . D'uh!
This is an acer that I have in my back garden. To the naked eye, the raindrop looked as if it was about to drip off but on upload it looks as if the leaf has spiked it.
... Marcello ( think about it ) 😁
A day at Cardiff Bay today . Whilst my OH went off in one direction to his monthly meeting. I went in the other direction to Cardiff Wetlands - both saw this but it was I who had a camera. He joined me later though for a spot of lunch followed by a spot of twitching with his whatawhappa lens ( in comments)
One minute I was on my knees in our front garden, checking out our dwarf chrysanths, when this flew past me and landed on alyssum behind me. If you ever heard of a little old woman who can turn 180deg from the waist in a split second (and live to tell the tale ) - I am that woman ;-) It's the first small tortoiseshell butterfly I've seen or captured this yea.r
The only time that I use the Six Star filter that our son bought me several Christmases ago is at this time of year, but again it describes my day to a tee. In the aftermath of yesterday's crazy day during which a photo of me and Huw was Facebooked , Tweeted , no end, I've spent my day off the web, doing my physio exercises at home, generally catching up with household chores and reading to my heart's content. I would have loved dearly to have gone into Swansea City Centre to take After Dark shots but know when to say 'No' . Self care is important to all in this 'Stresstive Season' I feel :)
One for Macro Mondays topic of Hot or Cold. I hope both is allowed!
Quite a challenge setting light to an ice cube! All done in camera...
Cube measured 1.5" wide x 1" tall before starting to melt!
Also for the FCB's 52 Week Challenge topic of Icy.
Sunset after a busy day of photography in Cornwall. We were all sitting with our tripods set up, so I built a small cairn to give foreground interest.
I knew I wouldn't get time for anything today, so my Macro Mondays shot for the theme of Nine was made yesterday, while I was processing and uploading nearly 600 mountain bike shots from a long day on Saturday at Swinduro.
My first thought for Nine was noughts and crosses, so I added the Polos for 0 and Jacks for X.
Photographed in reflected sunlight underneath my wooden desk, on a gold shiny piece of card, I believe from a supermarket pizza!
The inked grid is 2.5" square.
Captured at West Cross , Swansea in between two fundraising meetings - both at SA1 but needed to pick up an auction lot for our March 1st Charity Dinner from Mumbles,
Approx two years ago a young man named Ben fell into our lives (younger than our son in fact ) This was on a 'needs must basis'. Since then he's been so successful that he's had his own cards printed, wears tee shirts with his company logo . Suffice to say that he's made my life so much easier since he first set foot over my doorstep. This is his new website...
A snapdragon . One out of a tray of 24 multicoloured ones brought out from the greenhouse to harden off on the patio before they get planted up.
A morning in the garden today during which time we did a radical sweep of a fence that needs repairing. This is one of the casualties - a Passion Flower called White Lightning. Too good to throw away so I placed in a glass pot and photo'd it.
Taken in my front garden this morning.
You might notice I've changed my Avatar. I don't like it one bit because it gives the impression that I'm looking down my nose at everyone 🙈. Bear with me whilst I try to find the previous one ..
Stationery for Macro Mondays.
Crayons bought for Oliver, lit from below with fairy lights, and above with a torch.
Had to be a rainbow, as we've had so much rain recently...
2" maximum width.
A 78 % waning gibbous moon taken at silly o'clock this morning just before it started to get light and as it sank into some misty wispy clouds. An early start to the day because my OH was catching the 6.30am train to Paddington.
Whilst I was out to lunch yesterday, my OH went to our local garden centre to pick up Grow Bags and other gardening paraphernalia. The first think I noticed as I stepped out of the car was this colourful pot of Spring Flowers on our covered front door step.
For the Macro Mondays theme of Jewellery - a ruby brooch and pearls that I inherited from my grandmother.
Also for my POTD - this was after we'd taken our friends from Hampshire to the station to start their journey home, followed by an emergency visit to my optician because in between leaving home and meeting them at a restaurant last evening, I lost my near-distance ( or reading ) specs. I always carry a spare pair but those had a screw loose which fell out first thing this morning 🙈
Hope to resume normal (?) service tomorrow because we're driving to Carmarthen later to take our son's dog home ready from when he arrives home from a holiday in Egypt #neveradullmoment.
A bedding plant that appears to decreasing in popularity - grown from seed on our greenhouse and now sitting pretty in one of my back garden borders. Loving the fact that my new camera has more focal points - see if you can tell which flowerhead I focused on.
Oil and water for Macro Mondays. As soon as I saw this arrangement of oil droplets I thought "Orion's Belt.
1:1 focus.
So on Christmas Day I woke up to heavy frost and clear skies and had already been out around the field close to home to just stand and watch the mist rise . The birdsong at that time of morning was as if the whole avian population was singing its own Song of Joy. By this time I needed to get more 'properly ' dressed to go out so took this as I hung out of my front bedroom window. I did also watch and capture the sun as it rose through the mists but those shots can wait.
The North Pole of the distant Moon, Bulla in winter.
Size: 2" maximum diameter.
Macro Mondays: The First Letter of my Surname: B is for Bubble (Bulla in Latin).
Multicoloured for the FCB's 52 Week Challenge.
We returned from our travels to find that the hydrangea bush in the back garden had flowered substantially to the extent that I feel I must be harsher with my pruning this year.
PS I've double checked the colour on this and it looks oversaturated on two devices but OK on my PC.
Bit of a lazy day, despite not staying up till midnight for the first time in years... We usually watch Hootenanny, but George Ezra was up first, which caused us to turn TV off and go to bed at 11.30pm. Not much point, as the West Chiltington bazooka brigade started up at midnight or thereabouts. More money than sense round here. At least I didn't have to deal with a terrified horse...
A first attempt at oil and water pictures... More work required methinks.
After travelling to Mumbles to pick up goods for our forthcoming Charity Event later in the week, we took some time out to enjoy the sunshine. This is Singleton Park, Swansea on a glorious Autumn morning before we popped into its Botanical Gardens to eat our packed lunch.
Inspired (?) by the fact that after having to go out to have my haircut in high winds and driving rain this morning, I gave a tulip a bit of a twirl when I got home . I went out later on to meet my better half at Swansea SA1 in bright sunshine but even stronger winds, to the extent that for my own safety I wrapped myself around a lampost ( there are no railings ) to get the shot in comments.
Inspired by Liz's image from the other day, I setout to make a game of noughts and crosses on Millook beach today.
A play with my Steampunk fob watch for Macro Mondays. Hanging the wound-up watch did create some movement though, so a shorter exposure needed. Just managed to get a little movement in the second hand :-)
Some unwanted reflectios as well. Learning curve!
