"Don't think of yourself as indispensable or infallible. The cemeteries of the world are full of indispensable men."
-Charles de Gaulle
This cemetery has been struggling with funds, and last year local residents were regularly driving to Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, PA to mow the lawn and cut the weeds at the graves of their loved ones.
-Mt. Lebanon Cemetery was first known as Union Cemetery Association with its charter dated March 30, 1859. The cemetery was later formed into Mt. Lebanon Association with the new charter dated March 11, 1870. This cemetery is approximately 100 acres. Over the years, several local cemeteries have had remains removed and re-interred in this cemetery, so burials prior to 1859 are possible.-
During the Protestant Reformation in the early 16th century, the city of Bern adopted the new Protestant faith and the city's churches converted, leaving the remaining Catholics in Bern without a church. Following the French invasion of Switzerland in 1798 and the political reforms of the Helvetic Republic, the catholic community of Bern held mass in the choir of the Bern Minster, a Swiss Reformed cathedral. The Church of St. Peter and Paul was begun in 1858 as the first Catholic church built in Bern since the Reformation. Following the First Vatican Council (1869-1870) - its best-known decision is its definition of papal infallibility - some Catholics were dissatisfied with the Council and split away from the church to form the Christian Catholic Church of Switzerland. In 1875, the Church of St. Peter and Paul became the parish church of the Old Catholic congregation in Bern (Wikipedia).

So you think that 42 is The Answer? To Life, Universe, and Everything? Have you ever wondered what would happen if one of those algorithms we deem infallible and that seem to dominate more and more parts of our lives turned out to be completely flawed? Because only a teeny-tiny bit of data was entered incorrectly? We'd all find us in The Matrix of 1984 sooner than we'd care for. Come to think of it, it's well possible that that is where we already are... Time for a little jail break and a trip (hitch-hiking our ride, of course) through the infinite, free Galaxies of our minds. And since the initial question had already been posed too vaguely, we might easily find that the Answer to all our questions is 51. Or 3. Or... I'll leave it to you ;-) With so many numbers today, I'd say that each and every number is the answer to each and every question :-)
Well, and to answer the question what it is that you see here: It's a glass stopper that once safely sealed a bottle of Rosé wine. These glass stoppers are really nice, they are beautiful, they are reusable, and sometimes they even make a nice macro subject. I have no idea why it says "51" on the stopper's underside, it's certainly not the diameter of that part of it (which is 1,3 cm / 0,51 inches). Maybe it's a type reference? Questions upon questions...
What is out of question, however, is the way I've captured and processed this image. I've illuminated the stopper (which I'd simply propped onto the table with a piece of modeling clay in a half-upright position) with green, red and blue-ish light. For the green light I'd placed a green bottle in front of LED No 1, and the transparent red lid of a chocolate box in front of LED No 2. Light No 3 was my small LED torch which I'd held above the stopper. Processed in Luminar 4.3 for detail enhancement on the "51", and in ON1 where I enhanced the colours, and added a soft vignette and some glow.
Happy Macro Monday, Everyone, stay safe and healthy!

The other Kingdoms
“Consider the other kingdoms...Or the creatures, with their think fur, their shy and wordless gaze. Their infallible sense of what their lives are meant to be.”

My greatest masquerade is the pretense of an infinite, infallible existence – that I, God incarnate, tread this very Earth.
Hi folks! I'm back in SL with a totally new look! Let me know what you think about! Have you changed your appearance over the past year? Which brand do you prefer now? Or are you always in love with your infallible heart brands?
In the tags you will find the store that I chose for this photo! There's some news but some old names are not missing!
Consider the other kingdoms.
The trees, for example, with their mellow-sounding
titles: oak, aspen, willow.
Or the snow, for which the peoples of the north
have dozens of words to describe its different arrivals.
Or the creatures, with their thick fur, their shy and wordless gaze. Their infallible sense of what their lives are meant to be. Thus the world grows rich, grows wild, and you too,
grow rich, grow sweetly wild, as you too were born to be.

Hemicordulia tau
I am advised that this is the Tau Emerald Dragonfly.
Location is south coast New South Wales, Australia at Batemans Bay.
I had at first thought this was the Australian Emerald Dragonfly. However Harvey P advised me of the following: “The key (easiest) things to look for are (1) the degree of dorsal extension of the forward part of the yellow marks on the last two abdominal segments - in Australian Emerald they extend up in a point almost to the dorsal mid-line; and (2) the detail of the face pattern. It's not clearly visible in this profile shot, but you can see that the top of the frons (the top bit of the face just in front of and between the eyes) is yellow, not a metallic blackish blue that it would be in an Australian Emerald. As a generality, Australian's also tend to be greener and 'shinier', but it's not infallible.”
Another identifier is the leading edge of the wing is yellow whereas the Australian Emerald, H. australiae is black.

At this point in the poppy and cornflower field, the order has become a bit disorganized. Perhaps a photographer even stepped too close to the field to take the perfect photo, which then robbed the field of its perfection.
One could now complain about this disorder or regret it. I'm not doing that today. I notice that this scene now shows significantly more dynamism and is much more interesting than if all the flowers were standing in streight rows.
We often strive too hard for perfection and may even be ashamed of things we consider flawed.
It's no coincidence that artificial intelligence is so often used to write personal texts (which, however, lose all their personal qualities) or to optimize one's appearance with various filters. This is a trend I deeply regret, because this perfection robs us of our fallibility. And infallible also means unnatural and inhuman.
And so, on this sunny Monday, I wish you all a loving look at the world and at yourselves. A look full of curiosity, love, and appreciation. A look for the beauty of imperfection.
This collage features my photograph of a 251,000-pound rotary snowplow built in 1920, and on display at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento California.
For the "HEAVY METAL" SOTN Challenge No 61
My notes here are drawn from a news article: www.sacbee.com/news/local/article130645594.html
“In the Midwest and the East Coast, trains usually just put on giant wedges to push the snow out of the way, but that didn’t work so well here in California because our snow is more heavy and wet,” said Phil Sexton, an interpreter at the railroad museum. “Trains were derailing all the time, so we had to come up with something else, and eventually, we came up with rotary snowplows.”
“They’re extremely expensive to run and maintain,” he said. “But even so, rotary snowplows remain the weapon of choice when all else fails.”
However, even the rotary plow is not infallible. There have been times in the past, such as a 1952 case in which a passenger train was marooned in the Sierra, that rotary snowplows sent up to help the train were also trapped by avalanches.
The museum has a display about that 1952 train saga, and I think it’s a great story. A bit of it is recounted here:

If I had to ask a question of the infallible oracle . . . I think I should choose this: “Has the universe ever been at rest, or did the expansion start from the beginning?” But, I think, I would ask the oracle not to give the answer, in order that a subsequent generation would not be deprived of the pleasure of searching for and of finding the solution.

Ahu Tongariki is one of the most stunning locations, situated on the east coast between the Ranu Raraku volcano and the Pacific Ocean.
Ahu Tongariki is the largest ahu on Easter Island (Rapa Nui). Its moais were toppled during the island's civil wars, and in the twentieth century the ahu was swept inland by a tsunami. It has since been restored and has fifteen moai, including one that weighs eighty-six tonnes, the heaviest ever erected on the island. Ahu Tongariki is one kilometer from Rano Raraku and Poike in the Hotu-iti area of Rapa Nui National Park. All the moai here face sunset during the summer solstice.
On the left, the Poike volcano was the first piece of land that emerged from the sea and, together with subsequent volcanic eruptions, formed the present territory of Easter Island. Its somewhat remote and isolated location and its difficult access make Poike a little-visited place.
I went up there by myself.

Despite driving 30 minutes in the dark to reach Tongariki.
It's really worth it!
Listening to the waves crashing on the rocks on the coast as you wait for the sun to rise in the east behind the 15 moais on the ahu (ceremonial platform) Tongariki is the best way to start your day on the island.

Ahu are stone platforms. Varying greatly in layout, many were reworked during or after the huri mo'ai or statue-toppling era; many became ossuaries, one was dynamited open, and Ahu Tongariki was swept inland by a tsunami.
Ahu Tongariki, one kilometre (5⁄8 mile) from Rano Raraku, had the most and tallest moai, 15 in total.

This leaf is from my favorite maple tree, that resides in my backyard. I am so fortunate that this tree can still produce such beauty. We have been through some rough patches.
I stand before you on this particular evening...the sun is setting...and its light is shinning through you, exposing every detail of your beauty especially in this leaf...which has unfolded in all its majestic potential. A number of your kind are still pushing out...waiting to stretch as you have!
In these unusual times, it is this kind of beauty....paying attention to the ordinary that is extra ordinary...because the forces that shape my awareness have drawn me to you...here are now. Why, do I burst in joy? I am not standing before a mighty ocean...but before you, a simple leaf...and yet the overwhelming feelings are the same.
May I always carry this awareness...this unfolding of creation, in its smallest expression...enfolding me in a liturgical experience...and I fall silent!

Cheshire's barley is still green but in the evening light it is starting to turn to gold.
This shot is barely untouched save to clean out some dust spots, the light was so strong and the colours so natural.

Immaculate Conception
The Immaculate Conception is a doctrine of the Roman Catholic church that states that the Virgin Mary was free of original sin from the moment of her conception. First debated by medieval theologians, it proved so controversial that it did not become part of official Catholic teaching until 1854, when Pius IX gave it the status of dogma in the papal bull Ineffabilis Deus. Protestants rejected Ineffabilis Deus as an exercise in papal power and the doctrine itself as without foundation in Scripture. Although Eastern Orthodoxy reveres Mary in its liturgy, Patriarch Anthimus VII of Constantinople characterized the dogmas of the Immaculate Conception and papal infallibility as "Roman novelties". The iconography of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception shows her standing, with arms outstretched or hands clasped in prayer, and her feast day is 8 December.
The Immaculate Conception of Mary is one of the four Marian dogmas of the Catholic Church, meaning that it is held to be a divinely revealed truth whose denial is heresy. Defined by Pope Pius IX in Ineffabilis Deus, 1854, it states that Mary, through God's grace, was conceived free from the stain of original sin through her role as the Mother of God:
We declare, pronounce, and define that the doctrine which holds that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin, is a doctrine revealed by God and therefore to be believed firmly and constantly by all the faithful.
While the Immaculate Conception asserts Mary's freedom from original sin, the Council of Trent, held between 1545 and 1563, had previously affirmed her freedom from personal sin.

In a world ruled by data, where every decision hinges on numbers, and every truth claims to be quantified, what happens when the equations falter? When patterns once considered infallible dissolve into noise, and chaos creeps into spaces once filled with certainty? The society, built on the promise of precision, now faces an unsettling question: what do you trust when the trusted tools betray you? Do you cling to the fractured framework, or take a leap of faith in a world where facts no longer hold?

In 1787, the French botanist Nicolas-Joseph Thiéry de Menonville, sent to Mexico to steal the cochineal insect valued for its scarlet dye, reported the strangely beautiful flowers he had seen growing in a garden in Oaxaca. In 1789, Vicente Cervantes, director of the Botanical Garden at Mexico City, sent "plant parts" to Abbe Antonio José Cavanilles, director of the Royal Gardens of Madrid. Cavanilles flowered one plant that same year, then the second one a year later. In 1791 he called the new growths "Dahlia" for Anders Dahl. The first plant was called Dahlia pinnata after its pinnate foliage; the second, Dahlia rosea for its rose-purple color. In 1796, from the parts sent by Cervantes, Cavanilles flowered a third plant, which he named Dahlia coccinea for its scarlet color.
Wow, like Yippee! My very first sight of a weasel! Spotted while poking around the coastal bluffs. It did not appear to notice me for awhile which allowed me to observe for quite sometime. I didn't even need to sneak up on it, as it popped up pretty close to where I was sitting. The infallible internet indicated that it was a California Long-tailed Weasel. (you could tell it was Cali because it was so good-looking!)
...which characterize the swift hunter. For me, the great crested grebe is a fascinating and beautiful animal, which is also characterized by many abilities. During the whole morning at the lake I could watch him for a long time. His excellent diving skills make him a successful hunter under water. I was amazed when I suddenly saw him appear with a big fish in his beak. He managed to swallow it down in one gulp without any problems. It was also a treat to watch a sweet pair of great crested grebes making their nest for the offspring that will arrive in a few weeks. I was simply impressed and deeply touched by the many positive qualities these animals have. It was more than worth it to watch them all morning and take pictures of them from time to time. I was not the last time in this area, because I want to be there when the babies are out with their parents. I owe all this to a friend who showed me this location. I am very grateful for that.
Informations:
The great crested grebe is a delightfully elegant waterbird with ornate head plumes which led to its being hunted for its feathers, almost leading to its extermination from the UK. They dive to feed and also to escape, preferring this to flying. On land they are clumsy because their feet are placed so far back on their bodies. They have an elaborate courtship display in which they rise out of the water and shake their heads. Very young grebes often ride on their parents' backs.
The most infallible indicator of a people's and a person's heart formation is how they look at and treat animals.

For ages we will not be able to make up for what we did to the animals.

Excerpt from www.lancz.com/tenderness/:
Unlike the ubiquitous mother and child themes, Paul Lancz's representation is unique, in that the mother is not holding the child, rather the figures depict two equally significant entities expressing devotion to one another. The child kisses the mother's hand, the mother the child's forehead. Despite the lack of movement, we perceive a fluidity, a harmonious, unified motion inherent in its composition. The ultimate result is a mother and child loftily transcending all others, in its resounding evocation of the infallible sanctity of this eternal bond.
Paul Lancz’s sculpture called "TENDERNESS" depicting mother and child in white carrera marble, has in a short time become the most favorably talked about piece of art in the city. Its message is clear, definitive and unequivocal. In a world where everything is violable nothing sacred especially human beings "TENDERNESS" stands out as an infallible symbol of indestructibility and invulnerability. Noble and dignified it is as impregnable as the Rock of Gibraltar. Its relevancy is particularly apt today, when depravity and dissolution is pervasive. It is a beacon of hope that these trying times will pass and that "TENDERNESS" will prevail the world over.
The mother’s all enveloping, tender embrace of child, creates a unified accurate composition. This modern form, integrates wonderfully with the ambiance of the building, moreover like a piece of jewelry it decorates and complements the walkway. Generally speaking, the meaning or motivation of modern sculpture eludes the individual leaving one more confounded than enlightened. "TENDERNESS" on the contrary is self-explanatory and readily graspable. Mankind’s most noble and magnanimous sentiment is evoked by a mothers’ love for child. From all angles "TENDERNESS" achieves the desired effect upon the spectator. Unlike the ubiquitous mediocrity of sculptures pervading our city, here is one of harmony, comprehensibility and an aesthetically pleasing symbol of love and altruism. It would become an indispensable adjunct to the cultural and artistic aspect of our city scape. It is a labor of love with a truly therapeutic effect on the human psyche.
One of the paradoxes of our age, which has so far not distinguished itself as an Age of Faith, is that millions of men who have found it impossible to believe in God have blindly submitted themselves in human faith to every charlatan who has access to a printing press, a movie screen, or a microphone.
Men who cannot believe in the revealed word of God swallow everything they read in the newspapers. Men who think it absurd that the Church should be able, by virtue of the guidance and protection of the Holy Ghost, to make infallible pronouncements as to what has or has not been revealed by God concerning doctrine or morality, will believe the most fantastic claims of political propaganda, even though the dishonesty of propagandists has become, by now, proverbial.
They find it impossible to believe the Pope when, with the extreme caution and reserve which is characteristic of Rome, he makes one of his rare and guarded ex cathedra pronouncements within the very narrow field of “faith and morals” concerning which, as the Vicar of Christ on earth, he might be expected to know something.
And yet if some movie star or other celebrity, who stalled for three years in the eighth grade and finally gave up all hope of high school, makes a dogmatic declaration on anything from marriage to astrophysics, they will regard it as “authoritative.”
-Thomas Merton, Ascent to Truth.
The very height of passion

we cease to be amazed
by nature in our midst appraised
can anything befall such beauty
as it unfolds by rights of duty
bound unto no law other than survival
we must refrain from appearing Her rival
a bitter flaw in our own seemingly infallible makeup
a supposing wish upon twilight air or morning wakeup
can we for once be realists apart from human conceit
such arrogance can bring with it only a chagrin defeat
whereby we must stand by the errors of our ways
unable to blame the past, we must reassure the present days
if only we could,
oh, if only we could...
knawing away at many are the humiliating political mistakes
paying their hefty price for the "cheapness" of lives that it takes
in their eyes I see it
in their eyes I disbelieve it
fortify our Souls be the battlecry for a peace-loving freedom
dare they take it and the precedence will spell out our sodom
governmental, corporative hell steals our Heaven, all too often
for our needs are not theirs, and our belief in nature shall not soften
let their sterile wasteland of empty soul upon soul remain theirs alone
within titubent and false economies, let the natural Earth atone
for we are the lucky ones where time enough may yet unite
the awakening of purity of vision and the sensibility it hopes to ignite

Santa: Your purpose is the purposes of this Jeff.
You: … yes?
Santa: What kind is it?
You: erm… the ‘just gonna talk to a bot’ purpose…
Santa: Yippee! I hear you.
You: you mean you’ve got hidden cameras? Where?!?
Santa: what makes you think I have hidden cameras got hidden cameras?Where would you like?
You: you said you could hear me!
Santa: I have never considered could hear him or her. I answer a lot of silly questions.
You: wait… what?

You: I’m pretty sure there would be more than one monkey…
Santa: What makes you so certain? “There you go again.”—Reagan
You: because they need to reproduce, and they have been photographed in numbers!
Santa: Good reason. Where did they get them?

Possibly the most feared predator in the marsh. When it takes flight to hunt the possible prey they hide or remain on alert. When he launches an attack he is usually infallible.

Consider the other kingdoms. The
trees, for example, with their mellow-sounding
titles: oak, aspen, willow.
Or the snow, for which the peoples of the north
have dozens of words to describe its
different arrivals. Or the creatures, with their
thick fur, their shy and wordless gaze. Their
infallible sense of what their lives
are meant to be. Thus the world
grows rich, grows wild, and you too,
grow rich, grow sweetly wild, as you too
were born to be.

Wow, like Yippee! My very first sight of a weasel! Spotted while poking around the coastal bluffs. It did not appear to notice me for awhile which allowed me to observe for quite sometime. I didn't even need to sneak up one it, as it popped up pretty close to where I was sitting. The infallible internet indicated that it was a California Long-tailed Weasel. (you could tell it was Cali because it was so good-looking!)
