My summer sailing trip photos often include Toronto CN Tower shots .. though nature makes each one a little different.
The park includes approximately 768 lakes in an area of 70,533 acres. It is one of the most important water sources in Cuenca and Ecuador. It has gained international prominence in several categories:
*Wetland of International Importance in 2002 by RAMSAR, *Area of International Importance for the Conservation of Birds by IBA in 2003, and
*Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2013.
We started the tour with a hike through the ecosystem of primary montane forest or cloud forest.

What is an Andean forest?
At this moment, I am surrounded by an Andean forest, also known as cloud forest due to the high humidity in this place. I could find them along the high Andean mountains. In Cajas Massif, these forests are located between 1,000 and 3,600 meters a.s.l. While I hiked on this trail, I witnessed the importance of caring for this forest.

Much of the cape is part of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department-administered Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint with three miles of hiking trails, which includes Cape Meares Light and the Octopus Tree. Der Rotmilan (Milvus milvus), auch Roter Milan, Gabelweihe oder Königsweihe genannt, ist eine etwa mäusebussardgroße Greifvogelart aus der Familie der Habichtartigen (Accipitridae).
Im Gegensatz zum nahe verwandten, geringfügig kleineren Schwarzmilan ist die Verbreitung des Rotmilans im Wesentlichen auf Europa beschränkt. Er brütet vor allem in offenen, mit kleinen Wäldern oder Gehölzen durchsetzten Landschaften. Er ist bedeutend weniger wassergebunden als der Schwarzmilan. Die meisten Rotmilane des zentralen Mitteleuropas sowie die in Nord- und Osteuropa brütenden sind Zugvögel, während ein unterschiedlich hoher Prozentsatz der Brutvögel aus dem westlichen und südwestlichen Mitteleuropa jahrüber als Standvogel im Brutgebiet bleibt. Über 50 Prozent des Gesamtbestandes dieser Art, die sich vor allem von kleineren Säugetieren und Vögeln ernährt, brütet in Deutschland.
Zurzeit werden keine Unterarten anerkannt. Die seit 2000 nicht mehr nachgewiesenen Milane der Kapverden wurden als Unterart des Rotmilans (M. milvus fasciicauda), gelegentlich auch als eigenständige Art (Milvus fasciicauda) aufgefasst. Später auf den Kapverden gefangene Milane waren Schwarzmilane.[1]
Deutliche Abnahmen in den Hauptbrutgebieten führten dazu, dass die IUCN Anfang des Jahrtausends den Bestand auf NT (= near threatened) hochstufte.

The red kite (Milvus milvus) is a medium-large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as eagles, buzzards, and harriers. The species currently breeds in the Western Palearctic region of Europe and northwest Africa, though it formerly also occurred in northern Iran.[3] It is resident in the milder parts of its range in western Europe and northwest Africa, but birds from northeastern and Central Europe winter further south and west, reaching south to Turkey. Vagrants have reached north to Finland and south to Palestine and Israel, Libya and Gambia.

Nothing in a society stays the same and that includes the economy. Factories close, people lose their jobs, brands disappear......
One such disappeared icon in the automobile industry was the Belgian top brand "Minerva". which began producing automobiles in 1904.
This brand was named after the Roman goddess Minerva, the goddess of wisdom and arts, and her image adorned every radiator cap on the Minervas as a small work of art.
Many Minervas were soon exported to England with which heads of state and others famous people were transported.
The brand became increasingly popular with the wealthy part of the world's population, and many members of the royal houses of Romania, Thailand and India, among others, drove them.
Over time, the automobiles were also exported to America and Australia and were a huge succes in these countries.
Thus, even the American car manufacturer Henri Ford drove around in a Minerva because of its famous "Sleeve Valva System" of the Minerva's engines.
This engine system was executed without the conventional valve system.
This system made it possible to significantly reduce the excessive noise produced by the conventional engines of the time.
Minerva automobiles were a very formidable competitor to Rolls Royce, Isotta-Franchine, Hispano-Suiza and Duesenburg, the other greats of this period.
However, the great Belgian automobile brand Minerva did not survive the Great economic crisis of 1930 and went bankrupt in 1934.....
The automobile in the photo is the 1921 Minerva 00-Tourer with a Van der Plas bodywork and was very popular with the world's wealthy population and this model was driven privately by Henri Ford.
The engine was equipped with a 6 inline cylinders and had a capacity of 5.355 cc and an output pf 30 HP and of course it is equipped with the "Sleeve Valve System".
The "Sleeve Valve System" is a four-stroke engine that does not use inlet and exhaust valves and a camshaft, but sliding or rotating shutoff slide in the cylinder wall.
Therefor , the great advantage of this system is undoubtedly its noiseless operation.
However, there are also disadvantages to it and this concerns that it needs a complicated construction and has less direct cooling.
A still working example with a complete original engine is very, very rare and is one of the most sought after examples for colectors.
Glen Eyrie Castle is a 67-room English Tudor-style mansion built in 1871 by General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs. It was his wife’s dream home and is located on a beautiful 800 acre estate in the western foothills. The original structure was remodeled in 1881 to include a tower, 24 fireplaces and additional rooms. It was made to resemble a stone castle, reminiscent of those native to England.
The Palmer family sold the estate in 1953. It is now used as conference center with 7 meeting rooms, 2 dining rooms and 17 guest rooms. In 1975 Glen Eyrie was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Cuckoo - Cuculus Canorus
The common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, Cuculiformes, which includes the roadrunners, the anis and the coucals.
This species is a widespread summer migrant to Europe and Asia, and winters in Africa. It is a brood parasite, which means it lays eggs in the nests of other bird species, particularly of dunnocks, meadow pipits, and reed warblers. Although its eggs are larger than those of its hosts, the eggs in each type of host nest resemble the host's eggs. The adult too is a mimic, e that species is a predator, the mimicry gives the female time to lay her eggs without being seen to do so.
The English word "cuckoo" comes from the Old French cucu and it first appears about 1240 in the poem Sumer Is Icumen In - "Summer has come in / Loudly sing, Cuckoo!" in modern English.
The scientific name is from Latin. Cuculus is "cuckoo" and canorus, "melodious ".
A study using stuffed bird models found that small birds are less likely to approach common cuckoos that have barred underparts similar to the Eurasian sparrowhawk, a predatory bird. Eurasian reed warblers were found more aggressive to cuckoos that looked less hawk-like, meaning that the resemblance to the hawk helps the cuckoo to access the nests of potential hosts. Other small birds, great tits and blue tits, showed alarm and avoided attending feeders on seeing either (mounted) sparrowhawks or cuckoos; this implies that the cuckoo's hawklike appearance functions as protective mimicry, whether to reduce attacks by hawks or to make brood parasitism easier.
The common cuckoo is an obligate brood parasite; it lays its eggs in the nests of other birds. At the appropriate moment, the hen cuckoo flies down to the host's nest, pushes one egg out of the nest, lays an egg and flies off. The whole process takes about 10 seconds. A female may visit up to 50 nests during a breeding season. Common cuckoos first breed at the age of two years.
More than 100 host species have been recorded: meadow pipit, dunnock and Eurasian reed warbler are the most common hosts in northern Europe; garden warbler, meadow pipit, pied wagtail and European robin in central Europe; brambling and common redstart in Finland; and great reed warbler in Hungary.
Studies were made of 90 great reed warbler nests in central Hungary. There was an "unusually high" frequency of common cuckoo parasitism, with 64% of the nests parasitised. Of the nests targeted by cuckoos, 64% contained one cuckoo egg, 23% had two, 10% had three and 3% had four common cuckoo eggs. In total, 58% of the common cuckoo eggs were laid in nests that were multiply parasitised. When laying eggs in nests already parasitised, the female cuckoos removed one egg at random, showing no discrimination between the great reed warbler eggs and those of other cuckoos.
It was found that nests close to cuckoo perches were most vulnerable: multiple parasitised nests were closest to the vantage points, and unparasitised nests were farthest away. Nearly all the nests "in close vicinity" to the vantage points were parasitised. More visible nests were more likely to be selected by the common cuckoos. Female cuckoos use their vantage points to watch for potential hosts and find it easier to locate the more visible nests while they are egg-laying.

Bergen's first buildings were erected along the old Hanseatic wharf, Bryggen. It includes the old harbour buildings and it is one of the best known medieval city settlements in Norway.

Petunia is a genus in the family Solanaceae, subfamily Petunioideae. It opened to the public on 28 February 1977, to provide more living and breeding space for large animals such as elephants and antelopes which needed more space than was available at the restricted Sydney site. This blue hour photograph with colourful reflections was taken from the boulevard near to Singapore Flyer looking towards Singapore’s Central Business District. Two bridges can be seen crossing the picture: Benjamin Sheares Bridge (in the foreground) and Helix Bridge for pedestrians (behind). The iconic buildings behind the bridges include The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands (on the left), ArtScience Museum (at the centre) and high-rise buildings in the Central Business District.

De straat is genoemd naar koning Willem II, die graag in Tilburg verbleef en er een paleis heeft laten bouwen. Het paleis is nu in gebruik als stadhuis en wordt vooral gebruikt voor de raadsvergaderingen, het sluiten van huwelijken en voor representatieve doeleinden.

The street is named after King Willem II, who liked to stay in Tilburg and had a palace built there. The palace is now used as a town hall and is mainly used for council meetings, marriage ceremonies and for representative purposes.

Large, black, crow-sized bird with decurved bill and deep red eye. In flight, white in primaries very evident. Struts around in family groups on the ground in open woodland areas around southeastern and eastern Australia. A variety of calls includes a plaintive, descending whistle. (eBird)

Although totally unrelated to crows, these choughs are just as shy. Everytime we came across a group, they would take off, much like this one is doing. Big, noisy and beautiful, they were fun to watch.
The White-winged Chough is one of only two species in their family. The other is the Apostlebird which looks very different to this bird. They are not related to the Choughs of the northern hemisphere.
