Macro Mondays : My Daily Routine
HMM to all!!
I firmly believe that religious practices and rituals add powerful dimension of symbol and meaning to one’s life. So, the most significant task in my daily routine is meditating for half an hour in the evening after offering flowers and lighting an oil lamp to Gautama Lord Buddha. The oil lamp represents the light of wisdom that illuminates the darkness and ignorance and flowers are symbolic of the impermanence of life.

24:52 - Something fragile
Life is fragile, like the dew hanging delicately on the grass, crystal drops that will be carried away on the first morning breeze.

Last week’s shot represented the First Noble Truth of Suffering, where we recognise that our lives aren’t perfect and that throughout our existence, we experience quite a bit of dissatisfaction. From our birth to our inevitable death, like butterflies we hop endlessly from one flower to another looking for fulfillment, but fail to find it.
But why? We do we suffer in this way?
The Second Noble Truth, the Truth of Origin provides a one word answer to the question: ‘ignorance’.
This isn’t ignorance in terms of not being good at mathematics or not knowing how to bake a cake; rather we are blinded by an ignorance of the way phenomena exist in reality.
In our daily lives, we see things as so permanent and solid. Because of this we work so hard to obtain the latest gadgets, the most beautiful partner and as much wealth as we can. Let’s take me and my partner as an example. Oh, how I love him! Not only that but I feel like it’ll last forever, and I want it to as well. But in reality the feelings I have for him (or vice versa!) might change. Lovers change. Friends become enemies. Nothing is permanent, and everything is in a constant state of flux. But we don’t realise this, and when the relationship ends, or the iPad breaks, the tears roll.
We also don't understand how phenomena arise, which is through dependent origination And yet there is no phenomenon in existence that is not the result of dependent origination – that all results must have a cause. We continue to see things as extremely concrete and independent, which causes attachment and aversion to arise. Take a nice camera. I don’t just see a nice camera, I see a beautiful, independent, permanent, concrete, expensive camera. Oh, and it’ll make me happy too! Or someone who offends me. UGH! Instead of just a person, I see an evil, horrible, mean eternal archenemy out to get me.
But things aren’t like that, they aren’t concrete or permanent. Your worst enemy becomes a best friend. Countries at war become countries helping each other through economic turmoil. Nice cameras become old, useless, rusty cameras.
Without an understanding of impermanence and dependent origination, our deluded minds react to experiences verbally, physically and mentally in thirsty ( ‘thirst’ or ‘tanha’ in Pali) ways – where we crave for something, where we crave for more, and where we crave for less. The suffering is not the beautiful thing itself, it's our craving to it.
As long as this deluded mind is present, there is no escape from this cycle.
Matt

Princes Pier was constructed between 1912 and 1915 by the Melbourne Harbour Trust to supplement the adjacent Station Pier (originally the 'Railway Pier'). From completion in 1915 until 1969 it was also a major arrival point for new migrants, particularly during the post-war period. In addition to a pier, there was a gatehouse and barriers, terminal building, amenities rooms, goods lockers, ablution blocks, railway sidings and passenger gangways.
With the containerisation boom the pier became unused, being closed to public access in the early 1990s due to the poor timber condition, and squatters caused a fire in the late 1990s that destroyed the store structures. In the three years to 2004, 14 fires occurred. After a reconstruction program the pier reopened to the public in December 2011...its now a popular fishing and photography haunt ....

".... and here's a secret for you- everything beautiful is sad....gilded by impermanence..."- John Geddes 'A Familiar Rain'
Thank-you to all who take the time to comment on my work, it is greatly appreciated!
I still don't know what I was waiting for
And my time was running wild
A million dead-end streets
And every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
But I've never caught a glimpse
Of how the others must see the faker
I'm much too fast to take that test
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence and
So the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Don't tell them to grow up and out of it
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Where's your shame
You've left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you can't trace time
Strange fascination, fascinating me
Changes are taking the pace
I'm going through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Oh, look out you rock 'n rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Pretty soon now you're gonna get older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time

stamens lily
If one flower has a meaning, it is the lily. The lily is literally full of symbolism; she represents amiability, purity, love, fertility, femininity, unity and impermanence, all in one flower.

................What color is the word dahlia?
The ball is golden, and purple, and ruby,
And cinnabar, which means dragon's blood.
He's a regal velvet carmine
And the gold of the October throne,
And a fireplace filled with flames.
Autumn Crown of Hearts –
A constellation of crimson dahlias. Dahlia in the language of flowers means – caprice, impermanence. The giver of dahlias says: "I really like you, but I don't promise anything", "I'm not ready for a serious relationship", "Why complicate everything?"
Japan, on the contrary, believes that the dahlia is a symbol of the all-conquering power of life; news; good taste, greatness, gratitude.
Magicians claim that, having seen fresh bright dahlias in a dream, one can hope for a happy fate.....The day goes out...
As if in an old song,
I go out into an abandoned garden
See how dahlias bloom,
Strict charm pleasing the eye.
And as if frozen in amazement
From his unearthly beauty,
Tacitly accept respect
These flowers are majestic -
Like haughty, noble grandees,
That they walk without touching the ground,
As in the old paintings of the Infanta,
Like a portrait of the royal family.
Alla Volchek
These flowers grow in my garden, the same grow at my friend Steve! Proudly arching their backs,
dahlias strive upward.
So that even over the fence,
to see their beauty with your eyes....
Buddhist flower meditation :
Fresh and beautiful flowers of today will become withered and ugly tomorrow.
Imagine that you are a beautiful flower. What kind of flower are you? See the colours of your petals. Appreciate that you are now a beautiful flower.
Someone comes along and buys you from the flower shop. She puts you into a vase filled with water. You are gently sucking up the water and blooming more beautifully than before. You are fresh and sending off a sweet fragrance. The lady puts you on the table and offers you to the Buddha. You stand beautifully in the vase, bringing joy and happiness to people's hearts when they see you.
One day has passed. Slowly, the colour of your petals becomes dull. You are no longer sending off a sweet fragrance. Your petals become withered and discoloured. You are ugly and faded.
Although you are a withered flower, you are still happy in your heart. You know that you have an important role to play. Your role is to remind people of the Buddha's teaching that all things are impermanent. All things are constantly going through change. Everyone's body too, like your petals, will wither and pass away. Everyone should keep impermanence in mind and live in the present.
Impermanence of Life, Let nature take it is course.
Please don't get me wrong, you still have to do what you should do!

This is Cochrane where we've lived for the past 5 years.
The Rockies started to form out of marshland 120 million years ago and all the time weather and glaciers erode them - they are changing always.
It's believed native Canadians used this area as a summer camp for at least 4000 years - every time I look out of the window I understand why they called them the Shining Mountains, and if you squint a little I think you can imagine this land as it was then. The hamlet of Cochrane became a village in 1903 after a ranch was established in 1881. Now we're nearly 23,000 people and still growing. I love where I live and I hope that's permanent :) Though, who knows?
Oh, and this is my first attempt at stitching a panorama in LR, the images looked a lot sharper before they were merged.
