Nuremberg Castle is the landmark of the city of Nuremberg. It is a double castle and consists of the imperial castle and the burgrave's castle. The earliest structural traces date from around 1000. After the severe damage caused by the air raids on Nuremberg in the Second World War, the castle complex was rebuilt in historical form. Due to its historical character as a fortified building and imperial residence, imperial castle and Hohenzollern burgrave's seat, it is one of the most historically and architecturally important fortified fortifications in Europe. It is one of the city's most important art and architectural monuments and is part of the Nuremberg Historical Mile.
it was cold so very cold
feet slipping as I walked away
on this cold cold winters day
the warmth of the sunshine
whilst I stood watching . . .
the few clouds float by
made me think on this
Solstice Day . .
the shortest day oh yes it's true
would soon change yet slowly
as winter by spring is pushed away
a moments thought indeed it's true
how the warmth of the sun . .
makes such a difference is the clue

nota: Japan was among the most beautiful, interesting trips ever
After the capitulation of the shogunate and the Meiji Restoration the inhabitants including the Shōgun Tokugawa Yoshinobu, were required to vacate the premises of the Edo Castle. Leaving the Kyoto Imperial Palace in 1868, the Emperor arrived at the Edo Castle, fixing it as his new residence and renamed it Tōkei Castle.
At that time Tōkyō had also been called Tōkei.
The Emperor left for Kyōto again, and after coming back in 1869, he renamed it Imperial Castle (Kōjō). More info here

Built on what is arguably the most expensive real estate in the world, The Imperial palace of Japan is locked in time. This photo would pass (minus the cameras) for conditions in the 1940's and earlier. As a design, the symmetrical elements arranged in a linear fashion create a unified and cohesive structure that seems entirely appropriate to landscape and climate. The palace is only open twice a year (December and January) so it leaves a lot to the imagination.

The Twin Kiosk
Kafes means "the cage", it was the part of the Imperial Harem of the Ottoman Palace where possible successors to the throne were kept under a form of house-arrest and constant surveillance by the palace guards.
The history of the Ottoman Empire is littered with succession wars between rival sons of the deceased sultan. It was usual for a new sultan to have his brothers killed, including infants, sometimes dozens of them at once.

Located near Compeigne, the Chateau Fort de Pierrefonds seems to embody everything that medieval castle should be as it looms over the village crouching at its feet. For the most part, however, it is a creation of the 19th century.
Pierrefonds was part of the Duchy of Valois, and its castle, whose origins go back as far as Carolingian times, was rebuilt in the middle of the Hundred Years War by Louis of Orleans, the brother of Charles VI, as part of a chain of defenses between the rivers Oise and Ourcq. It was dismantled during the reign of Louis XIII. In 1857 Louis Napoleon commisioned Viollet-le-Duc to restore the keep; four years later he was entrusted with a complete rebuilding of the castle for use as an Imperial residence and a picturesque place for receptions given to entertain the Emporer's guests at Compiegne.

I need to cross a foot over bridge to get across the street to my next destination, the Yasukini shrine. The rather steep climb up the bridge in effect brought me almost face to face with the blooming sakura (cherry blossom) trees lining the street. So here then is a closer look at some of the sakura (cherry blossom) in bloom. Detailed notes about the sakura appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures). In its colonial enterprises, Imperial Japan often planted cherry trees as a means of "claiming occupied territory as Japanese space". Cherry blossoms are a prevalent symbol in Irezumi, the traditional art of Japanese tattoos. In tattoo art, cherry blossoms are often combined with other classic Japanese symbols like koi fish, dragons or tigers. It was later used for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics mascot Someity.
